These contract lengths, agents must be laughing to themselves. If the player ends up shit he’s either sitting pretty for half his career or paid off massively, but if he does well he will just stamp his feet a couple of years in and end up getting even more because that’s how football works now.

This guy will probably be good mind.

It's the truth though, you might not be feeling jealous but there is clearly plenty in here that is.

They want Fernandez, Mudryk etc - its natural.

People get on their high horses to pretend it's about morals, when in reality if it was our new owners doing the same we'd be laughing our heads off.
You might be laughing your head off. But to assume everybody wants to see the same style of squad building is stupid as feck.

I don't want our new owners acting like this idiot. I'm not jealous at all. There's no plan, feck knows what their structure is, the manager clearly hasn't a clue what's going on. I get children being jealous because they love new toys.

meh. Still an insanely bloated and imbalanced squad with no CL money next season, but with an absolute madman at the helm. They might have signed talented players, but what they are doing isn't sustainable.
They can easily catch us or Newcastle this season if either team falters.

I realise that, but looking at how much they spent per player it’s not as grotesque as some were trying to make out. They are buying a ton of players to try and get into the CL places, which is understandable.

Boehly is acting like Woodward after a bump of coke. I don’t think it will work out for them. It hasn’t worked out so far even after their summer spending.

Chelsea will have spent pretty much the same amount of money on players in 6 months than: Southampton FC, Aston Villa, AFC Bournemouth, Everton FC, Fulham, Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Leicester City combined.

It's arguably the most grotesque use of money in such a short amount of time in terms of transfers in football history?

I know Castles isn't great but I heard talk about 140 million euros. Looking forward to some extent how he does in the league. Finally can also move on from this tiresome thread with the occasional bumps if he performs well or underperforms.

He's worth the gamble, genuine world class potential.

I wish United were in for him if he could of waited to the summer since United need to seriously bolster the midfield and give Casemiro a world class partner.

Chelsea need a new manager now, they have a good young squad.

People think that this amortisation thing is new or what ? It’s always been there but in the end the money has to come from somewhere. The actual reality is that as long as you have an owner ready to spend money there will always be ways to circumvent FFP. Billionaires haven’t become billionaires by doing everything legally.

Actually, billionaires often become billionaire by figuring out how to accomplish legally what others can only accomplish through Brutish, illegal measures.

People comparing Woodward to Boehly ….

Woodward went on to become an accountant because he couldn’t make money with his non-masters, non-phd physics degree. He was low level JP Morgan employee before licking into a relationship with the Glazers during their takeover of United.

Boehly was the CEO of one of the greatest private equity firms in the world in Guggenheim partners. Literally a finance think tank. I wasn’t being hyperbolic when I said Woodward would not have qualified to work for Boehly, much less be compared to him.

And in many ways Eghbali is as impressive or more so.

This was a Herculean effort on their part. And assuming there are no odd glitches at the end… getting this across was extremely impressive.

They are building a cohesive and focused structure at Chelsea.

Chelsea fans should remember this moment when they are asking for things like manager sacks after two or three games again. Sit back, calm down, and be very, very happy such a determined and wealthy group wants your team to be great… and they have a plan.

I genuinely don't get the players desperate desire to join Chelsea. That might be the biggest mystery of all.
You and so many others keep asking this question. You act like Chelsea is Tottenham or Everton. Chelsea is the most successful team in the country over the past 20 years. Like it or not, players all over the world fancy going to a club that competes for and wins the biggest trophies, in a highly desirable city, with other hugely talented players.

You Chelsea fans keep talking about the past like Scousers, that's no guarantee for the future.

You really don't get why young players want to join the most successful English team in the last 2 decades, recent Champions League winner and still the reigning Club World Champions? I know there is a lot of salty takes going on on here but this question genuinely baffles me. You think a young player like Enzo cares what AC Milan, United or Juventus did and went through 20,30,40,50 years ago? Thats for fans to reminisce over. These players don't care unless, at a stretch, they are local lads. They spent his entire life watching Chelsea raise trophies. Of course he is going to want to play for us.

Besides fluking the cl you haven't been relevant in the past decade though

Didn’t fluke the CL. And in the last decade we’ve won the PL twice, the CL twice, and numerous other big trophies.

”irrelevant”

It's not even true, in the last 20 years both City and United have won more league titles than Chelsea.
Talking about trophies in general, not just PL titles.,

You're fecking 10th and went out of both domestic cups in the first round.

Maybe wait a bit before you start lionising Boehly.

One thing for sure is a billionaire who built an empire on his own tends to know what he is doing.

Players go to to Chelsea because they offer ridiculous contracts that nobody else would contemplate. Simple as that

They've picked up the odd trophy here and there when the other more standout teams have had bad spells. They haven't been the dominant team in the country since mou 1st spell and that was only for a few seasons

You've won 1 CL in the last decade, your previous CL was 11 years ago.

Man United pay FAR higher wages than Chelsea do.
