English people who want England to fail

Well I'm not sure where everyone who hates or dislikes England is but in my town ( where I live, not i own it ) everyone was supporting England, it was on in every pub which was packed, even the people that don't normally watch football was watching it cheering them on.
Lots of different nationalities here and I've not seen or heard of anyone moaning or picking holes in why England won.
Perhaps people playing it down so if we lose Sunday it'll hurt less.

I’ve been about as ambivalent as you can get with England over the years, but even I’ve got a soft spot for what Southgate has built. Dare I say it, we’re actually quite likeable.

What does any of this disputable ancient history have to do with the football team?
Never heard of black lives matter? Ancient history it ain't fella.
You are basically denying that institutional racism exists today, that contemporary racism which is the legacy of Anglo white supremacist ideology.
What did the English do to the black man and what of the ethnic slaughter of native peoples of America, Australia and their starving of the Irish and Indian populations.
Racism is alive and well today precisely as the legacy of English nationalist supremacy.

Yiur denial and wilful ignorance of living history is part of the problem.

Cheer up. Some people are too obsessed with the past. You can bring up things like this for every country in history.
Nonsense. British/English racist colonial history is out there as the most hateful and most brutal and dehumanising ideology ever to have existed and that led to the slaughter of millions of dark skinned indigenous peoples across the globe. White racist suoremacy is an English invention and it's legacy is as active as ever today across the globe.
The white supremacist racist murder of black men in the US is a direct institutional legacy of English white racist supremacist rule in the US.
England invented racism with their white supremacist science of race.
You are apologising for brutal English imperialist racism.
Not a good look fella.

"Absolute horseshit, considering who you mentioned. Was the British empire worse than the Belgians in the Congo? Was it worse than the Romans, the Assyrians (that had pyramids of skulls after massacreing whole cities), the huns, the Russians, the Soviet union. And the Nazis revered the British so much they risked going to war and challenging the British Empire for dominance! You clearly just hate the English and haven't a clue about our history or any history in general."

As for this puerile school playground reaction of whataboutery ( from the mitcher), you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.
You seriously ask was the British empire worse than Belgium?
Did Belgium or any other country brutally ethnically cleanse whole continents of their people like the English dud in North America and Australia? Did Belgium murder and starve half of the Irish population and millions of Indians during the 19th century?
No the Belgians did not, but the English did.
The English white supremacist ideology, that allowed for their dehumanisation and industrial slaughter and subjugation of people around the world was greatly admired by AH who spoke of his love of England and his desire not to go to war with the English. The feeling was mutual and returned from the British establishment of the day.
The English and their British empire forces only joined in to protect their imperialist interest.

In the words of the great Joe Biden, you ain’t a United fan if you support England

Wonder if it's because folks feel United players have been unfairly dropped/punished/moved from position in favour of others. There always seems to be one - Scholes, Carrick, maybe Mason?, Shaw for a very short window very recently, and now Sancho carries the torch.

Still weird though to actively root against your own NT.

I usually don't really care that much. I don't enjoy international football and the national pride that comes with it and in the past I've been somewhat happy when we win, but not really that upset when we lose. Semi's against Croatia I felt kind of meh. But this year in particular I've been swept up by it all. Partly perhaps because we've all been cooped up away in our houses for so long and its a real moment for us all to come together, partly because I like this set of players and the manager (as a person, not really as a coach), but mostly because of the uber right-wing brexiteers saying they wont support England if they continue kneeling. You just know that if we win they will try and co-opt the win as being fuelled by 'Brexit and our newfound sovereignty' when earlier on in the tourney they were all bleating on about how kneeling was a national disgrace.

Once again, what has any of this got to do with the football team? If your issue is racial predudice than surely you won’t be rooting for the Italians on Sunday?

There's not a single example of what the OP has insinuated. They've just whipped up an imaginary outlook and gotten angry over it.

I'm English but will be hoping for an Italian win on Sunday. I don't like international football and generally ignore it, but when international tournaments roll round my dislike of English people means I actively cheer against them.

Sometimes it's related to certain individuals in the team, but mostly it's social/political. I'm not in the least patriotic so the concept of cheering on England just because I was born here just doesn't matter to me.

Couldn’t agree more with the OP.

It’s like United fans wanting United to fail and being relentlessly negative about our chances of silvewa...wait a minute.

English nationalism is the most ugly and brutally violent form of nationalism. It spawned the most evil empire in this planets history. White suoremacy and global racism are today the inheritance of English nationalism and its imperialist expression and drive to murderous domination. The Nazi ideology admired and learned so much from English nationalism which is why the revered the Brutish ( meant to be Brutish, but I'll leave it as water apt) empire.
Many people are wary of this and rightfully so.
Pahahahaha.

Parody, surely?

Practical Explanation ( For Example ) :- `1st of all can you tell me every single seconds detail from that time when you born ?? ( i need every seconds detail ?? that what- what you have thought and done on every single second )

can you tell me every single detail of your `1 cheapest Minute Or your whole hour, day, week, month, year or your whole life ??

if you are not able to tell me about this life then what proof do you have that you didn't forget your past ? and that you will not forget this present life in the future ?

that is Fact that Supreme Lord Krishna exists but we posses no such intelligence to understand him.
there is also next life. and i already proved you that no scientist, no politician, no so-called intelligent man in this world is able to understand this Truth. cuz they are imagining. and you cannot imagine what is god, who is god, what is after life etc.
_______
for example :Your father existed before your birth. you cannot say that before your birth your father don,t exists.

So you have to ask from mother, "Who is my father?" And if she says, "This gentleman is your father," then it is all right. It is easy.
Otherwise, if you makes research, "Who is my father?" go on searching for life; you'll never find your father.

( now maybe...maybe you will say that i will search my father from D.N.A, or i will prove it by photo's, or many other thing's which i will get from my mother and prove it that who is my Real father.{ So you have to believe the authority. who is that authority ? she is your mother. you cannot claim of any photo's, D.N.A or many other things without authority ( or your mother ).

if you will show D.N.A, photo's, and many other proofs from other women then your mother. then what is use of those proofs ??} )

same you have to follow real authority. "Whatever You have spoken, I accept it," Then there is no difficulty. And You are accepted by Devala, Narada, Vyasa, and You are speaking Yourself, and later on, all the acaryas have accepted. Then I'll follow.
I'll have to follow great personalities. The same reason mother says, this gentleman is my father. That's all. Finish business. Where is the necessity of making research? All authorities accept Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. You accept it; then your searching after God is finished.

Why should you waste your time?
_______
all that is you need is to hear from authority ( same like mother ). and i heard this truth from authority " Srila Prabhupada " he is my spiritual master.
im not talking these all things from my own.

in this world no `1 can be Peace full. this is all along Fact.

cuz we all are suffering in this world 4 Problems which are Disease, Old age, Death, and Birth after Birth.

and 6th " Main Thing " is you have to Chant " hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare ".

If your not able to follow these 4 things no illicit s.ex, no g.ambling, no d.rugs, no meat-eating then don,t worry but chanting of this holy name ( Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra ) is very-very and very important.

I want England to win of course I do.

But I wasn't jumping round the house like a lunatic when Kane scored,if it was Utd in a semi final I would of been.

Too much hype and the media who hyped them in the first place slaughtering them after every tournament exit took its toll, who could forget turnip head Graham Taylor that was awful.

I have not been invested in this tournament whatsoever. I honestly couldn’t care less if Italy win it.

The tournament (and olympics) should have been cancelled.

Calling it Euro 2020 because you don’t want to lose money from advertisements annoys me.

UEFAs recent rule changes make me even less interested in this competition. I don’t want to see a 3rd placed team being handed the opportunity to win it (looking at you Portugal).

Watching England vs Luxembourg/Sweden is no where near as entertaining/intriguing as a South American/Asian opponent.

Gareth Southgates lack of personality grinds my gears.

English media are cancer.

Seriously bore off with this type of nonsense. Most England fans just get pissed and have a good time. We are not all far right sympathisers ffs.

Do you dislike your friends, family and work colleagues? Presumably many of those would be English/ British?

I hope england win by dodgy penalty from kane dive and Southgate screamed to all who hate him with euro trophy to feck off.

I am a naturalized citizen so don't really have the passion for the national team. However, I would be happy for my friends and neighbours.

Clearly I'm over generalising. It's the Daily mail reading, Brexit-voting, nationalistic little Englanders I have issues with. I associate the English national team with them and that's a big reason why I just can't get behind the team.

And I know Italy and every other country has similar elements within society, but I'm not exposed to that so it's easier to ignore.

I have zero emotional investment in the team. I don’t begrudge anyone celebrating or being happy etc. I just don’t play along because it doesn’t really interest me.

It seems our imperial past is normally brought up as a valid reason to hate the English. The reaction is altogether different though if for example you say you hate Germany because of the Holocaust. It's actually considered offensive to bring it up to a German. The English though are fair game it seems.

Not just exclusive to this forum though. There are so many on Bluemoon who wanted England to lose.

There’s a few sides to this I think.

Firstly, there’s this annoying one-upmanship with club support, particularly for the big clubs, and for some reason I think some people think that not supporting the national team is a badge of honour that makes you a better club supporter (“top red” etc).

“Oh you support Chelsea AND England do you? I just support Chelsea”.

Supporting your country doesn’t need to lessen your support for your club.

Secondly, despite international football being independent from club football and this belief that you should leave your club loyalties at the door when supporting the national team, this invariably is not the case. People have deep-rooted resentment in club football, again usually towards the big clubs, and many of the “England till I die” crowd, carry that into their national team support. It’s why players like Grealish find themselves with cult hero status having actually done very little for the national team, whilst others like Neville etc are scapegoats in waiting. That makes the England support a very unwelcoming home for supporters of big clubs.

Lastly I think there are some people who are genuinely just not arsed, which I can’t relate to.

Being German - and not English - I mostly support England because of the English players at United, but this feeling also changes depending on the amount of United vs rival team players in the squad.
And this probably wouldn’t be different if I was English.

After all I am not passionate about the German national team as it is mostly full of Bayern players who I don’t like. And there are never any good German players at United.

With England when Becks and Scholes were playing I was actually almost as nervous watching them as with United. Really wanted them to do well.
However when they retired (or rather Becks was “thrown out” by McClaren) I lost all interest in England, even more with how Rio was treated by England and Capello.

I only got interested again when Rashford started playing for England. And now it’s because of the United players and it would be good if they and especially Maguire could win their first big / in Maguire’s case actually his first ever trophy.

I can understand some English people having similar sentiments towards their national team. Of course some take it too far with actively wanting their country to fail but each to their own. Also helps that rival teams are not dominating the starting 11 either: 3 City starters, 2 United, 0 Liverpool, 0,5 Chelsea (this however has the side effect of Mount’s family members being on the Caf and regularly shitting on Grealish because everyone wants him to start over Mount).

Top post.

For me England has always been a southern team. Playing at Wembley hasn’t helped. Then there was all the fiasco with Beckham, Ronaldo and the booing of Utd players playing for England. Even if I try, I cant get excited about any England games.

The golden generation was the last nail in the England coffin. Sven, the wags and the untouchables was a media wankfest. Football become secondary.

I’m actually somewhat OK with English people not liking the national team for whatever reasons they have. It’s the foreign fans of premier league or a premier league team that are obnoxiously over the top in their hatred for the national team that I find totally weird and, well, total pricks. Same for La Liga/La Liga team fans hating on Spain NT, but that seems more mild than the toxic nature of these Premier League/Anti-England weirdos.

You associate the multicultural England national team whose manager has been a vocal advocate for equality & whose players take the knee before every game with the stereotypical little englanders (who, as bluntly as this sounds, are dying out)

You’re rooting for Italy, a county who still have monkey chanting at black players to this day.

ok, cool.

I'm torn for this game, I'm English but don't want Italy to miss out, either. I suppose I can't lose on this one.

Over the years I've felt less and less invested in the English national team, but that's something to do with my general disenchantment with my home country (nothing to do with football, I'm sure they're all decent blokes).

It's coming home/It's coming to Rome.

Pretty much this. Certainly in the 80's and 90's I remember quite a few Liverpool and United supporters who used to big up being Liverpool > England, or United > England to prove their fandom, and as another poster rightly pointed out, some of this was related to a North-South divide, but I've personally found that's faded quite a bit now. Can't speak for Liverpool, but it seems in Manchester when I've visited recently, it's perfectly fine to support England nowadays without people harassing you.

Now there were also a second subset of club fans who disliked international football in general, because "our players always get injured or come back shot from these tournaments, and it's bad for the club." Comprehensible at least.

I suppose there's this 3rd batch of enlightened social warriors, who dislike their own national teams for political or ideological reasons and what they represent, or for the "behaviour of the fans". Not really sure what would attract these people to club football, or a football forum, to be honest. Have you spent much time around club football fans? Club football fans behave better or are more socially enlightened? What is the allure of the relentless capitalist marketing branding that is Manchester United, or club football in general, to these enlightened social warriors? One would think if you held such a strong abhorrence to the national team for these reasons, surely club football, and football in general, would be just as abhorrent to their sensitivities, no?

At least you have a national team most of the country is passionate about, be it love or hate. Here in the US there is not one national team the entire country gets behind.

I wouldn't worry too much about the people who say they want the team to fail as I think nowadays that is some people's favorite sport (get on the internet and try to be as divisive as possible to get others riled up) - whether they truly believe in their "cause" or not, they just want to feck with others. To start threads and engage these people is just feeding the trolls what they want (to know they got under some ones skin). I noticed at least one poster doing just that already in the page and a half of this thread, people should have just left the obvious attempt to pick a fight alone.

Cause too many England fans are insufferable arseholes. I don’t want England to lose, but if it means I won’t have to hear drunk cretins singing “it’s coming home” for another year and a half, it’ll be the silverest of silver linings.
no different to anyone else lad. See Brazil and Argentina where people get killed over football.
Any examples of any posts from English people on here who are hoping for England to lose on Sunday?

I suspect you’re imagining something that doesn’t exist.
Indeed. Seems pulled out of nowhere

Exactly and the majortity of fans clapped over the booing minority. Its a weird flex. Jamaican born Raheem Sterling scores hatrick to win the cup and hes pissed because Raheem did it for his right wing fanbase. Is one not aware that many left wing liberal "snowflakes" are also donning their England shirts too?

Im non English but as a United supporter I have a clear bias. I was actually rooting for France but their out so England all the way. Plus we need some International superstars for bragging rights since we cant do it at club level.

Well, 2 reasons for that, I suppose. One is because the US doesn't have the opportunity to play what they're best at internationally, like NFL and baseball. Basketball had the Olympic dream team and everyone was behind that. Both the US mens and women's soccer teams are widely supported. Generally Americans support their olympic teams quite well - everyone was in on the hockey team in the 80s that beat the USSR. I attended a MLS game the other night, and if an American came up to me and said, "I only support my MLS team, I don't support the US national soccer team because our fans threw beer at the Mexicans and don't know how to behave, and because of our legacy of international tampering in South American affairs, supporting Israel, and launching the war on terror etc." I'd rightly look at them as if they were a lunatic, move seats, and trot on about my day. Which is exactly how one should view some of these posters regarding England.

It's actually considered offensive to bring it up to a German. The English though are fair game it seems.
The problem is, that it's deemed offensive in the first place. You should be allowed to tell the truth about the past. Especially if that past is relatively 'present'.

Quite curious that the ones who tell others not to give a crap about history come from countries with absolutely shambolic past.
