English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

Great finish from Australia! Will be going into the chase with momentum on their side now.

You never know how good your score is till the other team start batting :nono:

What the feck England!!!! Incredible.

Almost half a thousand runs  India A smashes 458 in another game. What are they putting in the pitches in England?

Watching the highlights, some of the shots were ridiculous. The Aussie bowling though...

All well and good smashing 481 and it shows how far they've come in this format since the WC15 debacle but I'm wondering if England are missing a big trick here. Still remember the 'it was a dry, used and worn wicket' excuses after getting schooled in the CT SF last year.

A bitterly disappointed Eoin Morgan was left regretting there is no home advantage in a global tournament and admitted his team failed to adapt to the conditions in Cardiff.

“I don't think there was any home advantage. We knew that we were going to play on a used wicket at some stage in this tournament, and we found out the other day that today was going to be on a used wicket,” said Morgan. “I think, going into today's game knowing that we were going to play on a used wicket potentially brought Pakistan's game closer to their home. So it was a big challenge and one that was too far for us.

With under a year left until the World Cup, why aren't they preparing for what they will be facing there? England's bilateral home series are played on the flattest pancakes around. ICC will surely be interested in creating pitches that at least offer something to the bowlers so that there is some sort of contest between bat and ball. If they fail to win the thing next year and again blame it on 'lack of adaptation' and 'no home advantage' they'll look like right fools.

England just posted a world record score and you post that "it's all well and good but.."

I get this feeling the English fans are feeling something that many other nations felt a long while ago - this dominance of ODI cricket and the ability to score big. England are very late to the party - lets not forget SA chased down 434 back in 2006/07. England first passed 400 just three years ago.

I kid you not but bilateral one days series' are a joke - Rohit Sharma nearly scored a 300 in a meaningless game on a road. @Samid has a point in that next year will illustrate just how far England have come - they've been incredibly impressive but, as stated prior, this is something other teams have been doing for quite some time now. I mean England have been such a shit ODI team that Eoin Morgan just became the leading run scorer at around 5000 runs and somehow Alec Stewart is still in the top 5. David Lloyd alluded to this yesterday stating that Australia still have 5 or 6 first teamers to come back and that the real test for England will be next year.

I'll just enjoy there here and now thanks.

I'm not really bothered if England are late to the party or whatever. They are finally competitive at all levels and just smashed the world record.

It's good to be an English cricket fan!

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree on that. England's upturn in fortunes in the shorter formats is coincident with some dreadful inconsistency in the longer format and the manner in which the ECB have marginalised the County Cricket for a heavy diet of shorter formats stuff in the prime part of summer will only compound the issues England currently have in the longer format.

As good as England have been in ODIs I do not think England have a bowling attack built to win a long tournament and I worry that the team is largely incapable of adapting to bowler favourable conditions quickly.

Being hyper-critical I would also say this England team lacks a little bit of ruthlessness too, Bairstow's had two really good looks at getting 200+ scores but rather than consolidate for a bit and accelerate again he's continued to 'play his game' and gotten out. Of course this is commendable and it is why England are where they are but what separates players like Kohli from others is the hunger and appetite for runs and to do whatever the team needs to win. Just going out there and playing your game all the time has a habit of biting you in the arse in the moments you least want it to.

England require 311 to win, I think Morgan made a mistake giving Rashid the 47th over over Wood but England should make 311 comfortable

More than comfortable, England win with 33 balls to spare. Australia probably around 50-60 runs short with hindsight.

Huge difference in the opening batsman Roy and Bairstow are something else hitting 180 off 149 which meant that Hales and Root didn’t need to get out of 1st gear, compared to the Aussies openers who scored 163 off 170 which vs most teams is very good but it’s not acceptable vs that England side in the form they are in, and it’s laughable they let a part time bowler in Root bowl 10 overs for 44 runs

More than that. Their bowling attack is horrendous. Need Starc and Hazelwood back asap.

Aye but both are as reliable as Phil Jones when it comes to fitness so you need to build on the squad. Plus I think this England side would beat them like they did in Australia.

India will provide a much firmer test here.

A great start could go up in smoke if Australia lose another wicket.

England are 101/6 and the crowd are playing with a giant inflatable melon. Certainly the melon is getting the biggest cheers.

Ah, 107 - Curran hits a 6

That was a hell of a tight ending given the score they were chasing

England fantastic again. 5-0 v Australia.

Wow. This ODI team is special. What an improvement since that infamous Bangladesh match.
