English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

That's that then. Good effort by us.

Way to shut bumble up from slagging you off Rashid

He's absolutely right. It took a ridiculous rough for him to get wickets. He is blatantly not test match material. Moeen Ali looks twice the bowler.

And even then, it took two fairly poor shots. The Rahul one reminded me of one Ballance played to Yasir Shah (I think) where he made big turn look huuuuuge by playing a terrible shot. Rahul should have just kicked it away.

India quite rightly shutting up shop now, Rahul and Pant have done enought to ensure they survive.

Whilst I think he's been decent throughout the series, David Lloyd is definitely correct with his assessment of Rashid. Up until Pant lost his head a little, Rashid was like a bowling machine for us i.e. free runs. Look at the way Pant was treating him and as @KM stated, it took a ridiculous amount of wear and tear on the pitch for him to actually look a little threatening. Maybe it's to do with confidence, I'm not too sure but he probably hasn't justified his selection.

Correct. A little odd from Rahul and Pant lost his composure.

Don’t get my wrong his spell after lunch was poor, (as was Ali and Stokes), but since tea he has been England’s most dangerous bowler today

4-1 seems very harsh but then if you don't cross the line , you have to blame yourself. Still feel gutted that we couldn't beat this England squad who look bang average.

Humiliation almost complete. India won't get a better chance to win a series in England. Must admit I'm surprised at the margin of defeat.

Well done England.

Even more surprised at India's batting failing miserably this tour. Well done England. Won all the key moments in the series and that's what wins you matches. If not for Root's brain fade in letting India bat first in Test #3, the margin would have been 5-0.

So Cook gets a century in his final innings, India threaten to pull off a record chase after England declare and then Anderson overtakes McGrath to win the game right near the end. Could it have been scripted any better?

Don't think it was a humiliating series for India tbh. India played without their best seam bowler, Bhuvi plus Bumrah missed the first two/three tests. Isanth was injured in the final test and at Lord's, the toss played a big part. India did themselves no favors with their poor team selection and I felt Ashwin was carrying an injury in the last few tests.
People like Curran and Ali won matches for England, which I don't think many people expected.
Well done to England but far from humiliating for India. It was a great test series

Kohli is a legend already but I hate his captaincy. Shastri is a yes man but the team needs someone who will go against Kohli for it to succeed. Some of the selections have been baffling.

  • Which idiot picked Kuldeep in the second test?
  • Why drop Pujara in the first?
  • What has Dhawan done in Test cricket recently to merit selection?
  • Kohli predicted lots of turn in the fourth test -- why didn't he pick Jadeja over Pandya?
  • What the hell were Indian batsmen doing in this series? Bowlers delivered in the first four tests.
  • They did all the hard work in getting the top seven out, why couldn't they wrap it up? Too many times this is where they lost the game.
  • Finally, Kohli must be the unluckiest captain ever. Lost all five tosses.

If not for a 20 year old's all round performance, it could easily have been 3-2 to India, same with the toss at Lord's

Perfect end to the match.

A 4-1 series win!

Didn't expect that before the first test.

It's been a close fought series but it's hardly surprising, to be honest. We've huge question marks over our away performances and haven't won an away series in SA, NZ, Eng or Aus since 2009. 4-1 is a very harsh scoreline but I'm not at all surprised, especially since a draw in a test match, these days, is so uncommon.

Really enjoyed that series, think 4-1 was generous but felt like we just took the important moments more often and that’s what you need a lot of the time. It’s happened the other way enough too.

I could happily watch another series right now between them.

Will Shastri go if India lose in Australia?

4-1 very harsh on India, but England had major luck with the tosses.

Still feel that Kohli is a poor captain but there's plenty of quality there. The bowling lineup is great.

Reckon India will win in Australia.

I hope they do and I think they've got a good chance to do it.

Like we said the other day, Pant on those Australian pitches could be absolute box office.

Yes and no. A couple of matches ago, we could have felt sorry for ourselves for losing the tosses in the first two games, especially at Lords. However, as the series has progressed, we've been beaten by, maybe not the better team, but the team better equipped for these particular conditions. England out played us in every match we lost and I think the toss would only have made a difference at Lords.

Other than that, it was a phenomenal series and was capped off with a brilliant day for England (Cook, in particular) followed up with a good day for India where once again we showed great resilience and courage.

As far as happy endings go, that finish is up there. Cook getting a decent score and a century in the two innings, Anderson getting the final wicket to surge past McGrath, a brilliant counter attack by two young Indian batsmen sowing just a hint of doubt and keeping the match alive and a sensational ball from Rashid (yes, it's from the rough but still). Great series, played in good spirit by both the teams. England would quite rightly think they were a bit lucky to win this 4-1 but they competed when it mattered and won the little battles that makes a huge difference.

Haven't been following cricket all that much but test cricket, when played with a positive attitude is absolutely addictive.

Tosses shouldn't be an excuse. In the first and fourth test we should have been more decisive. Congrats to England, 4-1 is harsh but fair.

Hopefully Pant is given a bigger role.
