English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

Ishant has improved tremendously since the last time he was here. The control hes displaying is quite rare and great to see.
Definitely. Looks like he's bulked up as well - he's certainly gained a yard of pace.

Think (and hope) you'll beat Australia.

This is incredible stuff now. Haven't seen anything like this.

This sort of slow pitch does nothing for test cricket. Run rate of 2.10 per over is terrible.

Trying to remember the last review that was successful. Bad review there from Root, yeah the umpire took ages but it was clearly not going to miss.

Bumrah is an incredible talent.

Fair play Bummers, he's deserved his reward as has Ishant. England paying for earlier caution

That feeling when you get five out and England's two best batsman in the series are about to come.

I know home advantage means a lot but India should really be kicking themselves that they couldn't beat this England side in a 5 game series.

This India team is nothing special too, the batting is quite mediocre.

England have turned their two best batting positions into rubbish and their two most hopeless positions into match wins. This is the best worst England team I've seen.

We'll be kicking Ashwin for sure. We're notoriously slow starters on tours. Being 2-0 down was no surprise, however, it was a crime not winning the last test match. Having England 86-6, being 140-2, Ashwins line and length on day 3 - just a shambles. Honestly, I'd have a taken a 3-2 loss at the start of the tour. We dont win many away test matches as with most nations however, we've been woeful on away tours since 2011 so this is great to see.

Openers in this time are even. Pujara is the best no. 3, Kohli is the best no. 4 and Rahane is better than Bairstow right now. From 6 downwards England are better and that's where the difference has been made. India could have done with Bhuvi in the team and batting like he did the last time India were here.

Well if he was injured it's not his fault.

Buttler has had some amazing luck there. He didn't realise he'd get a tiny edge on that.

If Bhuvi was fit then it'd have been our series for sure. Second best swing bowler in the world after Anderson.

Bairstow has been an absolute child this past week or so.

I'm not very pleased with how Bayliss and Root have handled it either. Absolute joke that Pope was called up and made to bat 4 and not single senior member queried it or offered to bat higher up instead. Had Mo not offered to bat 3 I think Root would have been stuck there still.

Middlesex taking Ramprakash would be doing England a big favour right now. A lot of very clouded minds in that batting lineup and I don't think it's an accident that Buttler, Curran and Ali (relatively) have done so well considering they've played IPL or county cricket more often this year. For all the issues around the top 3 I'm more worried that our best batsman keeps getting out in what used to be his strongest area and our 2nd best batsman seems to be batting in protest or something.

Its been a bizarre series no doubt. India have had england in test winning positions numerous times yet couldnt kill them off. Englands batting looks extremely suspect. I think India deserve to be level going into this test but havent been ruthless enough. Not a fan of Jennings though theres no other stand out alternatives. Ive been really impressed with indias bowling. Its been consistently good, fast and always probing. However, apart from kohli and a ton from Pujara, Indias batting has been disappointing again on tour which they have paid for losing the series.

Just left The Oval after a very long day!

As an England fan I was delighted with the first session and a bit. Even Jennings looked ‘ok’ until he fell in to India’s trap at leg slip.

It was a shame not to see Cook get to 100 in his last Test but at least he has another chance.

The flurry after that was typical of England, from 130 odd for 1 to where we are now. Must have been something in the pitch that we couldn’t see from the stands and hopefully England can get something out of it too.
