English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

Must be something in the Yorkshire water that stops him and Root converting 50s to 100s
@ 6 & 7 he averages 41 in 69 test innings which is what you want it to be, so why move him from where he is at his best, in 25 innings at 5 it is 32 and 2 innings at 4 it’s 10.5 (not that you can judge on only 2 innings but it helps to prove my point)

The problem is Stokes, Buttler, Bairstow, Curran, Ali all want to bat 6/7, someone has to bat 5 and someone has to bat 8.

If you've got bowlers bowling near 90 miles an hour and you're not getting Broad out near instantly these days you've fecked up.

Bounce him and then bowl him a full one. Hardly rocket science.

From 86-6 to 231-8, we've blown any advantage we had on Day 1.

Really rubbish Cricket in last hour or two from us.

I don’t see the point in having both Buttler & Bairstow granted that means finding a 3 & 5.
Do you know if Colin Ackerman can be called up to play for England yet, tried google but can’t find an answer

Well I'd have taken 246 all out for England. 70 runs too many though.

Timing of this dismissal is quite convenient for England. Will be a testing time before close of play.

Great innings by Curran once again. Not the most informed on cricket but he looks to be a pretty good player?

Pitch should improve a little more tomorrow. So far, neither Anderson and Broad moved the ball as much as our bowlers did, so we'll be looking for atleast 350 on a good batting track. Sam Curran looks a player, another terrific knock and will probably be a huge threat when bowling. The answer to Englands opening woes?

They might try something like that in Sri Lanka this winter. They promoted Moeen from no.8 to opener in Pakistan back in 2015.

I'd like to see Vince or Barstow opening with Cook personally. The likes of Boycott say we're too reckless but i wouldn't mind seeing more aggression at the top, given we're clearly incapable of blocking.

Cook needs to go. Been poor for far too long.

He's only just turned 20!

Plus, as has been established by our various selection failures over recent years, Championship records mean very little.

So just leave him be! England need to stop shifting around players who are doing well in the position they are currently batting in.

Curran is one of those players who seems to get better the harder the challenge you throw at them, he just absolutely relishes an occasion. You cannot understate how well he has batted in the circumstances he has batted in and I can think of few English players who have taken to test cricket as quickly as he has. There's a lot more to come from him as well not only as a batsman but as a bowler too.

Still swinging plenty out there...

Englands bowlers are too slow from the looks of it. Ball isnt moving as much as yesterday but their biggest swingers of the ball, in Anderson ans Curran, are around the 80-82 mph mark and its not that threatening.

A team with better tailenders than openers is now also deciding to show it has openers who are better bowlers than batsmen.

Happy enough with the outcome of this session. I've come to terms with our openers consistently failing.

Decent session. Thought Broad bowled well. Ball not swinging as much as yesterday so much harder work for the pacers.

If Stokes can't bowl that's a massive plus for India.

England have picked 6 bowlers, why is Jennings bowling

More worryingly why is Jennings only bowling a few clicks slower than our 3rd seamer. We've been talking about our bowlers being to one-paced for a while and we've absolutely nothing this summer to try and remedy that.

So England have no specialist batsmen or properly quick bowlers but we do have loads of all-rounders and wicket-keeper batsmen. I don't think this is entirely coincidental.
