English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

Hope Kohli gets asked about why we went with two spinners on this track.

Bit harsh on Pandya, think he's still developing and he's showing flashes of capability in these conditions. I think the best thing India could do is have a settled team for the next 3 tests and to stop pissing about with the batting order.

He's not a test quality batsman, nor a test quality bowler. He's talented enough to show glimpses, but he has to go to first class cricket and flesh out his game before starting for India.

His off-side game is terrible - he is such a good hitter he'll get the 20s and 30s off the straight balls, but he's just not ready. At the moment, he is like Kohli/Shastri's personal experiment because of limited overs heroics.

This is the problem isn't it, Ranji Trophy probably won't help teach him much as a bowler or help him learn how to play the moving ball, he needs a County stint but with his limited overs ability he won't get a chance.

Nailed it. He's nothing more than an experiment which isn't going too well at all. The guy tries his best tbf, but he simply isn't cut out for test cricket yet.

Ganguly on TV saying give Rishabh Pant a go. Agree with that.

Finished inside 50 overs, as expected. Not sure why English fans were worried at the lack of an overnight declaration.
Don't think the weather was expected to be this good. Suggestions I'd seen was that we might struggle to get 50 overs in the two days and the worry was that we were being too conservative with the declaration, something that has been an issue in the past. I'll happily give them credit though, obviously they had a better forecast than the one I'd seen.

Pandya may not be ideal but he's shown enough in this series to get in the team on his batting alone. That might say more about the rest of the idiots in the team but he's down the queue of players who need to be dropped. I'm fine with him seen as some sort of long tern project because he does tick all the right boxes if he can fulfill his talent. Worth persisting with for sure especially in the absence of any real alternatives. He's been the 2nd/3rd best batter for India in this series behind Kohli/Ashwin.

Questions need to be asked of Rahane as well. He's been pretty rubbish for a long time now. At least Pujara gives you guaranteed runs at home. Not even getting that from Rahane of late.

Need to get rid of Shastry. If Kohli doesn't like it he can piss off as well. Not overly concerned about his captaincy on the field. He's positive, proactive and realises the value of runs so is never overly aggressive with the field settings. The real issue is the team selections. Seems to lack any sort of consistency or logic.

Pant will likely get a look in. Nothing about his style screams of a test cricketer but then again Sehwag didn't do too badly so who knows.

What a performance by England, I switched to supporting England before the series and I am glad I did . This Indian team is horrendously bad and to lose so badly to an average English team is absolutely embarrassing. I keep saying this but Kohli and shastri are rubbish and kohli's exploits with the bat prevent major criticism for his captaincy. No other captain has gotten away with as many changes in test cricket as Kohli is doing. The amazing thing is that the same 4 guys have played all the test matches under Kohli but for 3 spots and he has changed them around as he likes . I bet no one can predict which 3 would play in the next match . That's not it though, the 6,7,8 have swapped around for some idiotic reason that only the team management knows. This team came to this venue , saw the day getting washed out and planned to field first but picked an extra spinner which is about as ridiculous as you can get . England are winning this because not only are they better suited to these conditions they are a better coached team

What would it take to make Kohli's position as a captain untenable? He's a fabulous batsman who the BCCI will not want to piss off but I'm not entirely sure he's the right captain, I suspect Shastri will be the fall guy in the short term.

Who else could we push forward for the role? Ashwin doesnt always play in away tours, and none of our batsmen have cemented their places.
Theres a lack of choices, to be honest. Also calls for losing his captaincy are harsh. Lets wait and see what happens in this series.

India need to decide what their best team is and stick with it. The bowling hasn't been too bad but the batsmen have been awful. If you have Ashwin coming in at 8, you expect a good batting line up but the application has been awful. At least Pujara has made an effort to learn the county game with Yorkshire although he has struggled. I think it does like a new coach for the test side is needed.

Really harsh, me thinks. Hes a fourth choice fast bowling allrounder of which there is no one in else FC cricket. Hes also an excellent fielder and should not be so heavily relied upon with the bat in hand, that said, he hasnt looked as clueless as others.

I'm not advocating him being sacked but I think it's clear Kohli has far too much power as captain, once you afford someone such autonomy it can be hard to persuade them to relinquish it for the betterment of the team. For me there is no doubt for me he needs a stern hand to steer him away from all the funky things going on inside his head with respect to selection/batting order etc. The Kuldeep selection was a really bad indictment on the decision making process surrounding the Indian team, all they had to do was look at the sky and at the honours board for historical evidence.

Didn't India forgo a practice match again? Remember reading about it, seems absurd why they think they can win without getting used to the conditions.

Apparently in 8 of the last 9 innings in England, India have failed to pass 200. They should have focused alot more on the batting and their preparation in that area seems to have been poor. Only Kohli, Ashwin and Pandya have passed 30 so far in the 2 tests.

No replies even here as well. :(

I dont disagree with what you're saying. Theres no clear option to replace him. Therefore, this predicament probably wont change anytime soon.

Just realised Rashid went through the entire Test without batting or bowling a single ball.

Wonder if he'll be available for selection now, or will the ECB want to complete their internal investigation prior to considering his reselection.

Absolutely joke . Jury should be jailed as well as him

The media coverage has been awful if you've followed the trial rather than the clickbait soundbites which made up headlines. I don't think there's been any realistic prospect he'd be found guilty since the first day. Basically the only two sources for the salacious headlines have been the bouncer whose credibility was destroyed and the prosecution going 'ah yeah, but you were angry weren't you?' and 'well you're lying' when Stokes said no which, thankfully, isn't enough to convict.

Also @KM now that there's been a verdict we can discuss.

Alright

I haven't been following the trial in detail but what exactly was he on trial for?

I read that he fractured some guys eye socket and caused concussion to another, the video is pretty self explanatory too. Bit strange to have no punishment at all for it.

Stokes is already back in the squad for the third test now

Well if you have evidence contrary to the jury's decision, why don't you bring a judicial review of the decision?

Whenever some is backing away from you with their hands up saying no and you still punch them knocking them out that's assault .

There is no defense or excuse for that . Unless it was his talk with God that got him cleared off course

He wasn't on trial for assault.

The only qualified people who can bring a verdict on him are the jurors who listened to all the evidence regarding the crime he was charged with not people who decide everything by watching one video . He was charged with affray. Incidentally here's the couple thanking him for defending them:

This was the decision making process the jury was asked to go through, from my 2 mins worth of legal reading it was hard to see how he was ever going to be found guilty of affray with the kicker being people present to the event fearing for their personal safety.

Again when you knock someone unconcious who is offering no threat to you at all and backing away from you . It's assault it's criminal and there is no defence or excuse
