Brook dropped again. Tom Blundell what have you done.

That catch by Phillips was insane. We've seen some great catches at gully but Pope absolutely smoked that.

Wow, wasn't expecting to see that scoreline, thought that I would be waking up to see England bowled out for less than 200, not 319/5.

O'Rourke looks really good. Consistently in the 140s and he's a tall bowler.

Would want to be facing him from the other end.

Gus Atkinson is having a great time making runs out there. 28 from 24 balls. Not sure it will last too long, but nice to watch. Woakes a bit crap again.

If I was NZ once the ball stops moving all I would do against this England team is bowl bouncers with 4-5 fielders on the leg side boundary and you would get a lot of catches

45-3 with Root and Crawley out for ducks seems like a long time ago. England have built this innings nicely.

Great knock for him even if he's barely middled one

We've definetly had the luck in this innings but capitalised on it well.
Feels like that’s been the way for quite a while. He’s always taken a long time to get in and it’s never looked pretty when he’s scored big anyway.

I’m currently pottering around to see if I can find an excuse to stay up for another 20 minutes, but I definitely need to get some sleep

Wow what a day for England.

Glad Woakes got some wickets after the sneering about his away record. There's no reason he shouldn't perform well in these conditions. In Asia or Australia on the other hand...

Totally agree these are about the closest you will get to English conditions ,plus He bolsters up the batting it's a no brainer.

No issue with Woakes selection on this tour - but we don't particularly need his batting with Atkinson and Carse these days.

Which is a slight worry for him going forward.

Yeah. And his experience is important as well, given the rest of the attack are new to test cricket.

Can't see him starting in the Ashes because Atkinson and Carse are good batsmen as well (and Wood, Potts, Archer not too bad either). But he has a role to play still on this tour and the next home summer.

Really nice to see Carse in this setup. Looks a really good test cricketer. Surprised he's turning 30 next year, late bloomer!

For all the talk of not having proper warm-up matches anymore, this could be England's fifth away series in a row where they've won the first test.

Atkinson seemed down on pace yesterdays, bowling an Ollie Robinson pace. Atkinson is a good bowling all rounder but that was a little concerning.

Yep I've been thinking the same. Happens so often to our quickies :(

It think there's a potential issue with his delivery stride. He was no-balling a bit from what I saw and maybe that doubt is causing him to lose momentum at the crease.

He's a cracking player though. He could one day actually be considered a batsman and he's good in the field.

Annoying runs from the NZ tail, we really do seem to struggle to get the final couple of wickets every time, but this should be a comfortable England win from here.

Carse is that bowler who will bowl consistently hard just back of a length and gradually grind batsmen down. He's ideal for these kind of conditions.

Bethell underlined his potential there. Not a difficult chase but everything he did exuded confidence and class.

Good batting from Bethel, though I think he will be replaced by Robinson in the 2nd test with Pope going back to 3.

Excellent win in the end, rode their luck but took advantage. Carse looks a decent bowler whose prepared to put the hard yards in.Good to see Stokes get some runs and Brook is absolute quality.
