So what's the plan tomorrow then? Send Brook and Stokes out swinging, then declare when they're both out?

I think England have learnt from Edgbaston and realise that easier to get them in the first gig so will try to pile it on tomorrow

Just caught the score, what was Cummins’ captaincy like? I’ve found Australia’s approach very un-Australian.

Really would be brilliant if England can somehow get a win here. When was the last time the winner of a five match test series came down to the winner of the final test

Poor just like it’s been all summer. Far too reactive and lacking ideas

I wasn’t impressed even when England were 2-0 down, I get the logic but there’s no reason for a side with that much talent to surrender the initiative so willingly. Wonder if it’s impacting his bowling too.

He banked on England making mistakes which worked at the start but now England kind of know what’s the plan. Lyon going down has been a massive game changer. England basically don’t fear anyone in this attack outside the top 2

Went at almost 6 an over and looked shattered by the end of the day. Him forgetting to back up and having to chase an overthrow to the boundary at 5pm was a personal highlight of the day for me.

England have actually attacked Cummings more than the other bowlers this game so maybe you're right.

Basically this, Lyon is great at holding down an end allowing the Aussie quicks to rotate. Today they didn't have that and Starc and Cummins bowling far more than they would have liked.

Imagine losing your number 1 spinner for the series.

How can the Aussie bowlers claim tiredness when they've never once had to use the 2nd new ball in an England innings.

Starc’s bowled 83 overs through 5 innings, 16 overs a pop, absolutely nothing.

Josh Tongue has bowled more overs in 1 test than Cam Green has in 3.

Hopefully England will build a 200 lead, leaving enough time to put feckers Aussies in half hour before lunch.

I was there today, the best days cricket I've seen from England for years.
When Duckett got out cheaply and Moeen coming in there was a bit of this could be 15/2 or 100/1 thankfully it was the latter.

Crawley rode his luck a little but what an innings shame he didn't get a double, Root was nailed on for a 100 until he got an unplayable delivery.
Hard to describe how it felt watching England pummel the Aussies the crowd were fully engaged in it which made for a great atmosphere.
Hopefully we kick on keep batting as the conditions won't be as good as they were today,+200 will put us in a very strong position to make it 2-2.

It must have been a great day to be there.

That's the problem, 200+ may put us in a position where we've got no time to bowl them out with the forecast after tomorrow. Hopefully it's wrong.

You certainly picked a great day to go watch England. Crawley and Root were brilliant.

BTW next time you go…. Regarding the bloke with the trumpet, would you be kind enough to stuff it up his arse.

The forecast has gotten even worse. England need a miracle basically to get a result here

@Utd heap dont read the below, it’ll be too negative for you.

They do now. I’m still confused about Brook coming in and poking it around, the one time we need him to move. For all the talking of progressing the game, this was such an obvious way to do it with basically no risk. It’s almost impossible to us to lose and they’ve chanced it with the weather.

In my mind England could have built a lead of 100 and taken wickets last night against a tired Australia. As it is now, Aussie’s can sit through the rain break knowing England still need to bat more time out of the game with the decision they’ve taken.

feck sake, I hope I turn on the tv later and there’s no covers on the pitch.

Sunday looked ok last night and now looks to be a total wash out. Will be an awful way for the series to be decided :(

Heat wave pretty much everywhere and the UK has a washout summer. Of all the uncertainties of climate change, one thing remains depressingly certain.

Weirdly the met office radar for today doesn’t look too bad. Small, heavy showers, but not continuous rain.

Only having 80 and 83 overs or something In two days doesn't help either could easily have played the extra overs last night when the sun was out and light/weather wasn't a factor.Atherton bangs on about stuff like this alot also how long it takes them to get back onto the pitch after delays.

That was a great innings from Crawley. He's averaging high 20s at the moment, and fails to turn his 40+ scores into a big score.

I wonder if he had a bit more patience, how regularly would he be able to get a 100+ score. He's certainly very comfortable when he's set in, and can manipulate the field really well.

yeah today might be largely ok, but still feels a tall ask to finish batting and getting them all out within that if there’s literally no play on the other two days. Have to hope the Sunday forecast improves again.

It really was a great day to be there, usually your thinking were never far away from a collapse but Moeen and Crawley seen off the new ball quite comfortably. The afternoon session was incredible and it became apparent quite quickly that the Aussies had no idea how to stop it.

It is a difficult one but I think England won't want to bat again.

If we get near enough a full day today we can force a result - but 60 overs or less today and it's going to be a struggle as Saturday is a write off, and Sunday looks patchy at best

The only way I can see it is if the weather holds today/they play a session on Sunday. England will need to pile on the runs this session (probably need 150 more) and then bowl out the Aussies cheaply.

If the conditions change in favour of the bowlers, it may just be possible. But it's a huge ask.

Pretty much that, yep.

So I guess England will go hell for leather early doors to get the runs on the board and get the Aussies in this afternoon??
