YESSSSSSSS!!!!

At last! Nervous stuff but brilliant from Wood and Woakes. Those two had exceptional games, really hope they can do the rest of the series.

Good net benefit protecting Brook and putting him at 5 as well. God I love Headingley, my favourite ground.

What a fantastic test, best yet imo, in series of great tests.

I thought Cummins’ captaincy was questionable once Bairstow got out, it’s arguable England probably gave Australia a window that wasn’t really there but too many easy singles, telegraphed plans and bringing the spinner on for a hiding to nothing.

Another superb final day. There's been little to separate these sides overall so it's great the series is still alive.

So tough to pick. On balance I think Wood, just. Think he had a big psychological effect the way he just blew some of them away in the first innings.
Yeah the Aussie tail were absolutely petrified of him the other night. He had steely characters like Cummins, Starc and Carey shitting themselves

That decision by Carey was the absolute pinnacle of a crowd getting under someone's skin. He saw a chance, no matter how utterly non-existent it was in reality, to get some level of revenge on a crowd who've been on his back for four days.

See Stevie Me spending the rest of the game shooting from 40 yards after he fell on his arse against Chelsea.

Agree about Cummings. He had a mare against Woakes and Brook. Took too long to bring in the spinner and should have gone short straight away with 80 left to go.

Woakes took some big wickets but yes, that burst from Wood stopped Australia from building a sizeable first innings total. It was also very, very quick. The one that crashed into Cummins pad he barely saw. He also removed an in form Khawaja with one at 95 mph.

Not something you often see in cricket these days, let alone from an English bowler.

I've been assured in this thread repeatedly Aussies dont get rattled mate

Cummins got his tactics wrong today. England made it hard work but 250 to win with two days batting with these conditions, they were always favourites. Bringing Woakes and Wood in was a great decision.

England should be counting their lucky stars that the conditions were so vastly different yesterday at the one time the Aussies were batting.

That 2-3 hours of play yesterday determined the tie.

You really don't like us mate - why

England got back into the game thanks to Stokes when they were nearly out of it so they fought their way back. You can't just ignore that and base it on 2-3 hours yesterday. Of course they had the better bowling conditions yesterday but they stayed in the game after the 1st innings. Then fought back in the second Australia innings. Chasing any more and they would have lost. Don't forget England also batted yesterday.

I’m just calling it as I see it - I’ve been complimentary of both teams when it’s been merited. It’s also a better spectacle now that the Ashes are still alive going into the next test.

What did Cummins do wrong do you reckon? My view is Englands attacking approach meant he couldn’t trust any of the other bowlers except for himself and Starc. Had a similar issue in the first test but he produced a monster shift and Lyon was there bowling as well.

Having to rely on superman every week isn’t a sign of a good test side though. And England only batted in those conditions for half an hour. That 2-3 hours yesterday determined the tie, and lucky for England it was when they were the bowling side.

You could see someone like Michael Neser coming in for the next test if they don't fancy Boland or Hazelwood. I wouldn't even be surprised if they play Marsh and Green if they are both fit.

Just like us losing both openers in the darkness when chasing in the 1st test.

Or Leach being out of the series.

Or losing Pope. Or losing Ali when Aussies are chasing 280 on a turning wicket. Or losing Robinson for the whole test.

Both teams face adversity, that's how it works.

Yet he wasn't the top scorer in the second innings so other players contributed and he didn't bowl. England fought well to skittle the Aussies out for a decent total. I disagree that the 2-3 hours determined the tie, even going into today and the wickets England lost, the tie was in the balance. So many aspects in the match so its difficult to pin it on 2-3 hours yesterday just because the Aussie batsmen had brain farts. Travis Head batted great in the conditions.

I think it was silly letting Woakes and Brook rotate the strike so easily when Woakes first came into bat. The field needed to be more aggressive at that moment.

He also brought Murphy on for an over at the wrong time - he should have been brought on much earlier if the idea was to tempt England into playing some big shots.

I’d have also let Marsh bowl more overs in place of Boland. Boland hasn’t been great at all this series.

Right now it does seem as though Australia are heavily reliant with their own Superman with the ball to be honest.

Fitting that Wood and Woakes were there at the end. Both were brilliant in this test.

He sounds like me when i comment on Liverpool mate. Trying to wrap up absolute disgust in fairness to seem impartial.

Agree with the tactics, that was the time to be aggressive. But on Murphy, Marsh and Boland, they’re all much of a muchness in this match.

Whenever I see Woakes play in England I always feel like there’s no reason to not have him in the team. Overseas is obviously questionable but he’s so good at home

Brilliant win.

That first innings Stokes performance with the bat was absolutely crucial. Hope Wood can manage to stay fit to play the next 2.

Old Trafford should be a great atmosphere.

I still think England need to find a way to bring Foakes in. He's a decent batsmen, excellent keeper, and Bairstow's batting average when keeping falls off a cliff.
