English cricket thread

Cmon Zing you know more about Cricket than to call it after day one. It's turning and indifferent bounce but a good wicket to bat on.

Plenty more to come.

Fair - will see how the series goes.

Stop moaning ffs. Your team is revolutionizing the way test cricket is played and its bloody brilliant. Sure, they may go over the top at times but it's part of the package. Can't love the style and then complain when they do so.

I don't even watch cricket anymore, maybe the odd 20 balls here and there but tuned in to watch the 1st day extended highlights because it's so different.

It's hard to say what a par score is when only one team has batted, but given the opposition/conditions, it's hard to see how a team batting first would be happy with anything under 425 on this deck. Good chance England would have reached that by the end of the day too after Lyon's last over.

Unless they're confident of a washout on day 3, it is just a really strange decision against the best team in the world.

Even if you think your chances of taking a wicket is higher at that point in the day, England should have considered the wickets they'd lost up until that point. With the exceptions of Crawley and Brook, pretty much every other wicket was a result of England's attacking mentality. Not to have a go at that, but surely that would have suggested the Aussies were in a good place to see out the day.

Any chance we see the ball swing a bit today? Being a filthy casual I get excited by simple things and seeing the ball swing a bit makes me feel cricket-warm-and-fuzzy

Possibly early doors but unlikely later on based on forecast.

Most of us love the new style and think it’s a much better approach for this team than how we were under Root. But it’s still fairly new and being honed and so it’s legit for people to question if we’ve got it a bit wrong sometimes. Too early to say on this particular call (though presumably the hope was a wicket last night otherwise you could just declare overnight) but when we declared early in NZ that proved to be the wrong call ultimately and hopefully we’ve learnt something from that.

People are allowed to discuss and question if we’ve got it right whilst being overall supportive of the approach.

Think a combination of Englands proactive batting and Aussie defensive field made the pitch look flatter than it is. It's still a good pitch no doubt but I think there is enough there to keep the bowlers interested. Cooler and cloudier today, may get some swing aswell.

Aus will have to bat well to match England but they are certainly capable of it. The decleration was a message more than anything else, were coming for you Aus, no matter what.

Awful shot by Warner. Broad takes the Warner wicket again.

Wow Labuschagne gone. Fishing outside off.

Broad justifying his selection here in the first bowling session.

Great catch by Bairstow given all the talk about Foakes. Went a bit under the radar.

God I wish Warner and his skank of a wife. would just feck off.

He’s tried to set his own retirement date much like Ian Healy did. Meanwhile his wife has joined tv media to try and defend him any time some valid criticism has been levelled at him.

Broad just so so good for the occasion. Thrilled that he’s picked up where he left off against Warner again.

Bugger. Got sucked in by a rerun of United Fulham from 20 years ago….missed what sounds like an exciting opening :(

Preferred Jimmy over the wicket to Khawaja. Just needed to get the outswinger a bit wider and I think it would've worked.

Brook bowling reminded me of me in my younger years. So slow the ball seemed to get lost in time before reaching the batsman. Surprisingly effective
