English cricket thread

There hasn't been much turn and the three-wicket balls were just mistimed by the English batters. There was no turn or mystery in the deliveries...you can't miss straight balls.
Anil Kumble had a whole career getting people out bowling straight ones

Is it just me or has Buttler had a bad record with reviews so far? That was a bad review imo.

Topley looks like he could be moulded into a Chris Tremlett-style bowler. Seems to be bulking up a bit.

I’ll be honest, this second semi has largely just passed me by. I’m too worried about Lanky, he did not look in a good way at the end of that mascots race
He'd already put in a full shift before the others even got started. Just a sprint too far.

Fortunately, for those fearing the worst, Lancashire have posted an update:

Matt Parkinson is one hell of a bowler

He's great but i do feel like he's to good for County players and very hittable for the top players in the game. Young enough to bridge that gap. Hope England keep giving him experience.

The Ramprakash zone.

You’d imagine he’s going to get the main ODI spinner gig when Adil hangs up his boots. That’ll probably be where he has to earn his way into the red ball side from

I think Rehan Ahmed could surpass Parkinson before Rashid retires.

Rehan does look like some player, but Rashid is what, 34/35? With known shoulder problems in his past.

Do you think Ahmed will overtake Parkinson in the next year or two, because Parkinson is already a superb player. Not that I’d complain if England left Parkinson with Lancashire, mind

It’s tough to predict these things but Rashid’s not all over the T20 circuit so I think he can get a fair few years out of himself. I think Parkinson’s inability to bat counts against him a bit in the shorter formats so even if Rashid did retire earlier and Ahmed wasn’t ready they’d probably go for Dawson or something. That was basically England’s thinking in the last T20 vs India, pack the batting and rely on 4 overs of Ali/Livingstone (which nearly went very badly mind you).

Lancs threw it away. Credit to Hampshire, bowled really well. But so poor.

Excellent finish watching as a neutral after Somerset barely turned up in the semi-final. Thought it was the wrong decision by Lancs to send in Wells ahead of David, Hampshire's strength is their death bowling so get the game done before then.

Chris Wood and Crane also deserve some credit for the way they batted in the final couple of overs, easy for bowlers just to have a swing but they played sensibly and got them to a competitive total.

Yeah they did.

It's been a theme all season. We've dominated virtually every Championship game we've played but we only have three wins. And we threw a couple of group games away in the Blast too.

Think a change of captain might be in order. The coaching positions should be under review too - this lot have been in situ for seven years and we haven't won anything (although we've definitely improved in that time).

I do think we might see the end of captain Dane this season. I did already, but yesterday he seemed to be on the verge of a breakdown before he went out to bat, which at that stage we were comfortably in front and having your leader how he was is about as far from inspiring as you can get.

I’m not so sure we’ll see Chapple go as we are in virtually every sense one of the best working counties right now, consistently bringing through new talent and improving, albeit that brings the caveat that we regularly lose those players for internationals. The constant trade off in cricket in wanting a side of players who are good but just not quite international level, it’s what Hampshire are brilliant at.

Oh mate 100%. We've massively improved under the Chapple regime and as you say, we're fulfilling one of our primary goals which is to produce players for England.

Just feel like Chapple and Vilas (who I rate as highly as any captain I've seen for Lancs) make some poor in-game decisions and maybe it's time for a change on both fronts.
