English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

I've not watched this match. How on earth is this possible? Flat wicket? Crap bowlers? Amazing batsmen?

Can't really comment on the wicket until both teams have bowled, our attack is a different class to the SA one this match IMO. As for the batting, Ben Stokes just took the absolute piss.

That's right up there that Stokes innings, depending on how the match finishes and the series result it could well end up being the best I've seen from an England player. And the 150 from Bairstow was pretty ruddy good and all.

I wonder what the mindset is like when you're facing a mammoth first innings deficit. I'd be tempted just to play for my average. The draw is as good as you can get, and even that's unlikely.

:D Engahlurnnnd. Can barely believe what I've just watched.

There are barely any players in world cricket capable of that knock performed by Stokes in test cricket. De Villiers, maybe Warner. Even the best batsmen around such as Williamson, Smith simply can't score at such a breathtaking pace. So yes even though the fact Stokes' averages haven't been anything special he is capable of a performance like this one.

This South Africa team is in a bigger mess than I thought. Just completely all over the place.

If they want to move forward after this series, they'll need a different captain because Amla certainly isn't the right person to be leading them.

I'll be controversial and say they need to ditch the quota system. I understand why it's there, but it has served its time.

Has De Villiers actually been the best test batsman at any point in time?

I feel like he gets over-rated a touch because of his abilities in the other formats. I think he's still the best all round batsman in the game but as a test batsman, I feel like there are many players who've played memorable test knocks more often than he has.

Well played, Amla! Amla went past 7000 tests runs and AB past 8000 test runs as well.
