English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

Bell needs to be dropped. I guess he will again play career saving/another chance 50 in 2nd innings or in last test if retained...At 33 it is not impossible for him to come back if dropped. Get playing more in county, score runs, get confidence and if the younger guys don't take their chance in test team, he can be recalled.

I don't think Stokes is good enough to bat in the top 6 either, but if he doesn't he seems to cry about it and not play properly whereas Ali doesn't care. I'm not sure I'd give up on Ali as an opener just yet, either, especially when the option in the squad is Hales.

I reckon Ballance would do brilliantly here, disappointed he's not with the team, his treatments been pretty harsh, but he'd certainly be more solid at first drop than Bell.

Yeah I think Ballance would do well here, Wahab aside, just would like to see England play players who deserve to play and in their proper positions. Think Bayliss has been very lenient with Buttler and Bell.

Ian Bell is just a massive fraud. It's unbelievable someone like him has racked up a 100 test caps for England.

His record since 2012 excluding the 2013 Ashes.

Even more pathetic if you remove a shite West Indies side. I mean his career is pretty average itself in an era where every man and his dog walks around with ~50 average. How's he been allowed to get away with it for 100 test matches?

I said it at the time, loved it that Bell got runs in one of the Ashes tests because that meant he would be on the plane to the UAE. Just look at the numbers vs Pakistan and take into account that 63 of those were on a road in Abu Dhabi and even in that knock he could've easily been dismissed 3-4 times.

With Bell at the crease the opposition are always in the game. You never know when he will do something utterly daft and throw away his wicket. I'm sure South African fans will be hoping for a 50+ score in one of his remaining innings here so that he books his flight ticket to SA.

Superb day for Pakistan. Should press on tomorrow and get the win.

It was. Before today I was feeling a bit hard done by, as an England fan, as I thought the Pakistan would probably win because of the toss. After today, I think Pakistan will probably win because they are quite a lot better in these conditions.

Saw Wahab Riaz's spell, and yeah it was great especially considering the conditions. He's turned into a fine bowler. And Cook should've used the seamers far more. Rashid is just too damn slow for this pitch.

31 hundreds in 100 tests for Younis. Sachin had 51 in 200 matches. Also Cook made his debut SIX years after Younis but has played 20 more tests, both being in their 9000s.

Such a pity Pakistan don't play enough cricket.

Aye. Great batsman for Pakistan in test he has been. Also was Younis dropped in between for some period? I don't remember clearly...

Come on Pakistan!

Cook & Root, as usual, will be the key. Unless bell decides he wants to do something useful here.

Cook is struggling big time.

The worry is not so much this game, but the next test and if he can make it.

Manchester United shirt in the crowd, the producer is from a Manchester United fan and bumble is talking about a Manchester United quiz.

See, sky are fecking rag cnuts!!! The establishment is against city!

Just looking at his record. He was dropped after a poor series (130 runs in 3 tests) in SL summer 2009 and didn't return before late 2010. In that period he missed 5 tests in Aus/NZ and 6 tests in England (vs Aus/Eng). Very harsh and odd dropping him considering he made a triple century against SL earlier that year plus his averages in the upcoming countries were unquestionable: 43 in Aus, 65 in NZ, 52 in Eng.

Guy captained the country to World T20 glory in 2009 and he has been wonderful in tests but what's hurting his reputation is pretty clear for all to see. Wish he would retire from the format already, instead he is constantly in the media moaning about being treated poorly. There is no such thing as 'poorly treated' when you are averaging 18 in 29 matches since 2012.

What's the money on Bell getting a gritty, but ultimately meaningless, 50 and saving his place for another year?

Such a fun player to watch. Finds the daftest ways to get out.

Lou Vincent was talking in the match fixing trial this week about how hard he found it to get himself out when he was supposed to. Should have taken lessons's off of Ian Bell.

Hopefully Pakistan can wrap this up soon.

Unfortunately there's been a strong earthquake in Pakistan & felt across Afghanistan & India, hopefully everyone is ok.

England have bored everyone into a coma. Boring bastards.

Actually, this has been a great effort to get to 300. Will be a (moral) loss for Pakistan if we can't win this.

Last hour. Full burst from Wahab and Yasir from the other end. Imran and Babar are containers, not wicket takers.

Babar you fecking beauty! 1 more to go...
