English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

Great catch that by Cook. Forget wavering, England barring something unbelievable will go 1-0 up.

It was always going to take something unbelievable for Australia to even just save the match.

Or the rain

This is going well.

I really don't keep up with much cricket other than the ashes, who was favoured in this series?

Johnson finally gone. Should wrap it up with a day to spare now.

what the feck were the ecb thinking brining moores back in the first place? looked a different team without him.

Great performance from England. Australia need some tweaks. Mitchell Marsh for Watson for starters and need to think about Johnson too. Still think Australia will find way back in series. England winning the opener sets the series up nicely.

Suggestion earlier was Starc won't be fit for the next test so unless they want to go for both Siddle and Cummins, he'll have to stay.

OK. Didn't know about this Starc bit. Don't think Johnson will be dropped then if Starc misses out. Australia missing Harris. For me, Harris, Hazlewood and one of Starc/Johnson would have been a great attack. Siddle gives his all but is not at Harris's level.

Harris having to retire was such a boost for England. Obviously it's sad when a player is forced to stop playing but in English conditions he'd have caused us the most problems so I have to admit I was pleased when I heard the news for selfish reasons.

Yep. Agree on all that.

Think Haddin has also worked out what the recent hype around England was about..even if he is a bit slow.

Amazing test.

Having not seen much of Mark Wood before he cracked into the test squad, I gotta say I've been really impressed with him throughout the test match.

Looks good. Got the pace, doesn't seem fazed by international cricket, and is only 25 so plenty of time for him to work at his game.

Was very consistent, too. I think he could be one of our key players when we're next down under for the ashes, as his pace advantage over the likes of Jimmy will no doubt suit Aussie conditions. Plus he'll have a lot more experience behind him at that point, so yeah... Fingers crossed he can keep improving, because on this weeks performance, the kid is looking like a great addition.

Just had a check of where the games are.

Think Lords and the Oval are the Aussies best chances.

Edgbaston always seems to bring the best out of England (for no clear reason) and Anderson is usually unplayable at Trent Bridge.

Well done to England, better side won and nothing ekes can be said. They looked livelier with the ball, and were better with the bat.

I think Australia don't have the team/squad for a 5 match series.

They seem to have come out riding on "Boof's a bloke's bloke and will give us a few beers and we'll smash them" mentality which clearly doesn't work against professional sides that aren't falling apart.

I'm not so sure it's Lehmann's demeanour. I think they're just so suspect and vulnerable away from home. The Pakistan series last year proved as much.

Not experienced enough yet.

More than the bowling, I am unsure about the Aussie batting in test cricket away from home.
  • Rodgers and Warner is a decent opening partnership at best.
  • Smith is yet to prove himself outside home conditions.
  • Clarke is the good one; unsure if he'll find his best form again.
  • Voges and Watson would need to top order to fire for them to useful. Cannot see them building big scores or chasing big runs if the top order fails.
  • Unsure about old man Haddin's ability to hold the lower order together now.
Still should be a good series as England also have their vulnerabilities and Aussies hardly ever back down. England have laid down the marker with their excellent performance in the first test, though.
