England vs Iceland

Too much emphasis is put on Roy. England has been dire for ages, a team of divas who never have shown even a tiny bit of team spirit. The problem is deeply rooted in the mentality of these players.
no... play drinkwater, vardy, rashford and you do have a better mentality.
however, playing with wilshere, rooney and sterling is really awful decision making.

Got to hand it to Iceland, population of 330k. Just mental. Reaching the quaterfinals alone is a massive success for them regardless of what happens next. Stuff of fairytales.

I don't even understand how Kane was allowed to play so much after a dreadful first match in the group stages. Him taking set pieces is beyond mental too :wenger: maybe time to update the Houllier smiley

Nope, Roy managed the transition from our last generation to this fresh bunch. He did a good job not dropping any direness, divanicity or spiritisciousnous. He managed to maintain a high level of deeply rooted problemisciousity in everyones mentality. He's a true Master of Transition!

I was hoping for an England/Ireland QF. Ah well. Good luck to Iceland v France. How are they so fresh at this stage of the tournament?

Proud to be an Englishman tonight. We left nothing on the pitch and you can't fault the effort either. We tried absolutely everything, standing still, looking gormless, falling over the weird round thing - the lot. It just never quite fell for us is all.

5 live making a good point. That statement was prepared extremly quickly. They're claiming it was pre-prepared.
Why would you have a prepared resignation letter heading into the tournament?

He was going to retire no matter what the result.
The moment we go out of the tournament (or win it), he will announce his resignation (and read out the pre-prepared speech).
I don't think its a losing mentality - he was merely decided before heading out to France, that this set of games would be his last as England manager.

Well that was a complete embarrassment.
Ta da woy you useless owl faced prick. A manager who when give. His biggest just job at pool fecked it up so badly even the scousers hated him.
Only have to look at Eddie Jones for an example of how to motivate and coach a proper team. And he's an Aussie
Rashford showed in 4 minutes why he should have been on from the start. I am too angry to post any more. In the words of Del Boy, I might have a Connery.

I was sick to my teeth of the pundits and commentators saying or acting like 'it's only iceland'. The level of disrespect for them and their team was ridiculous, Tyldesley was comparing it to being behind to San Marino way back when.

Sycophantic dickheads who cover England matches, all of them.

We got exactly what we deserved. Good on Iceland.

If this was about them being 1-0 down for 23 minutes or whatever, then going on to win 7-1, then yes, spot on. Even when they were down, and watching the game unfolding before their eyes, with England being shite and Iceland playing well, they still had their misplaced sense of arrogance.

I used to root for England, until I noticed things like this happening throughout all these years I've watched football.

I remember that, we were favourites against the finalists of Euro 2008 who also happened to be a young and world class team. Ridiculous.
That's why I never liked England team. Always over hyped, usually without a reason and pundits speaking of opponents like it's still 19th century and English are the only ones who know how to play football.

 Brilliant! I´m delighted for you Icelanders.

The moment of the game was the defensive run made by #7 (I think) in ca the 88th minute. From Englands box all the way down to Icelands box in full sprint to avoid a 1v1. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Such a manifest to the extreme work ethic in this team.

In contrast to Greece in 2004, I´m rooting for the underdog - hope they go all the way.

Roy Hodgeson for Prime minister, he's the man to take us out of Europe..

**runs for cover

Maggie Thatcher, as they say in your language in the boxing bars around Madison Square Garden in New York: Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!

That's how it feels to be English this week.

Anyone watching Steve mclaren on sky sports news

I think he might be drunk

The hand movements he learnt abroad are mesmerising

Tyldesley is a clown. He can't keep his anger in check when England do crap, he shouldn't even commentate on the national team IMO.
