England V India

Yes, he was good on a pretty flat track, and prior to that tour I said that he deserved to play if you remember, but he has struggled this tour, and there are others who deserve to be given a chance.

Good start by England this morning, no wickets, Udal playing some shots, Shah looking solid.

A lead of 250 should be enough for England, they'll look for something closer to 300 though. The highest winning 4th innings score on this pitch is 167.

And that's lunch, decent enough start by England who lead by 206, i'm off to bed.

If England's really serious about winning this one, they should play another 40 overs for 150 or so and declare. That'll be a target of say 350 in 110 overs. Will give us enough to be interested but at the same time will be very difficult to chase on a fifth day Wankhede. Should make for a very interesting finish.

They are playing at an abysmally slow rate though. I'm wondering how keen they are on pushing for the won. They should really risk it. Nothing to loose. As a young team with a heap of injuries, nobody will blame them for loosing a close series in the sub-continent 2-0. On the other hand, a 1-1 will earn them any number of admirers.

128-5. That's a lead of 249. Not enough - they'll need 300+, preferably closer to 350...

Nice negative tactics from India, try to bore us out.

This is a fecking snorefest. England better try and do a few slog sweeps and stuff like that. If this goes on till the end of the day, a draw will be the only possible result.

As an incentive to both teams, I might consider coming in late to office tomorrow to watch them try for an exciting win.

Flintoff has to go for it now. Lets say 10 overs today and 90 tomorrow - so 100 with a target of oh so enticing target of say 330.

Lets hope India do go for it. Anything's possible if Sehwag can somehow put togther a quickfire 50. Dhoni one down, Pathan 2 down and go for it. If it fails, there's always the wall to come.

India need 313 to win. 273(ish) is the highest target chased in India. So, I can't see them doing it.

And I saw a huge Indian flag with a Chelsea badge in the middle of it, in place of the traditional wheel.

Disgusting.

50/50.

You've got to blame the top order and Pieterson. England ideally probably wanted to declared just after tea, with a 350 lead. But that was slow going. fecksake.

Yep, the batting wasn't up to scratch. But there's less time for the Indians to get the runs they need also....

Pathan comes out with Jaffer. Strategy I suppose is basically to last today out and see how things are say 10-15 overs in tomorrow morning before taking a decision whether to go for it.

Jimmy!!!!!!

He's back I tells ya, and I hated the coloured haired tool.

Enough movement to interest the quicks, some turn for the good spinners, and the rare examples of good batting have been rewarded.

Jimmy Anderson - I almost take back all the abuse I've given him down the years.

Pathan's not really a night-watchman any more. He probably has a better average over the last 10 one-dayers and 5 tests than most of our top order.

Kumble on the other hand is the classic night-watchman.

Well he not going to be much use now.

Sending Pathan in was merely a ploy or even fear to save the top batsmen from the new ball. This was later reinforced by Kumble being sent in at the fall of Pathans wicket.

A rubbish ploy that has backfired miserably by losing Pathan, who would have been ideal in a run chase.

I agree with Kumble being better choice as a night-watchman.

Hmmm there is a good chance we could end up losing this one, I am pretty sure we would see a result.

Also read in the paper today that Dhoni was given out due to a scoreboard error. Asin third umpire was stilly reviewing video when guys operating the electronic board screwed up and pressed the out button or something.

It was a dodgy one. People wanted Dravid to 'take the responsibility' and open. But IMO they took the correct decision in not doing that. Because had England got Dravid today, there was no way we were going to survive the last day. It would be too big a boost for England and too big a blow for us.

But i also think Pathan was the wrong man to send. He got a 90 opening against Lanka. But theres a big difference between Lanka's pace attack and England's. Plus the ball was swining, and the fact that hes so dangerous coming lower down the order. Needing some quick runs he could have been the key.

Barring Pathans dismissal the day couldnt have gone better for us. England got 70 or 80 runs less than they should have and we batted for a lesser duration than England would have liked. Its all about tomorrow and the first session. If we get one big partnership, one session where we lose just a wicket, then we should make it. Lose early wickets and series will be drawn.
