England v India 2021 Cricket Test Series

I saw a tweet yesterday I think saying in England he averages 35 with the bat and 22 with the ball

Decent, could do with him picking up a few here.

Interesting stats on Anderson in the last couple of years - his figures are significantly worse in the second innings compared to the first. Could be coincidence but could be an age thing if he's tiring throughout the game.

Heading out to a local FA Cup game now and quite happy to be avoiding this. Long afternoon ahead for England

Yeah, I’ve stuck some money on India. Feels like the game is going away from us in this session.

" It's a concern when the ball's not moving around that much as a batter " (Michael Vaughan, today, BBC website)

Is it a thing now to say "batter" instead of "batsman"? I first heard Alastair Cook staying it. "Batter" makes me think of baseball.

I guess I'll answer my own question.

" Leading cricket website ESPNcricinfo on Friday announced that from now on it will use the word batter instead of batsman to promote gender neutrality in cricket vernacular. " (April 2021)

Good call.

At the oval today. Feels like England have zero control of this. Shame they had to use the new ball in perfect batting conditions last night.

Very odd. It's overcast, windy, dark yet the ball is doing nothing.

I said it yesterday that the batsman really messed up in the first innings , these were great conditions to bat in and it pretty awful to not even get 300 in those conditions . Long way back from here

Lead is now 70. 250 lead will be required in this pitch. What is the weather forecast?

This whole batter thing has been going on for some time now. Not sure why we need gender neutrality for such things.

I think just because they cover a lot of women’s cricket as well and it’s easier to have one term you can use across both, plus “batswoman” is a bit of a mouthful. It’s just basic language evolution and not something I even notice anymore.

Ominous for England. It's still 'only' a lead of 100 but the pitch looks flat and England flatter.

Does it really bother/effect you?

Nope it does not.

Matchwinning hundred there from Rohit

Still a lot of time in this test match. India needs to bat till about tea on day 4 I suppose to rule out losing the game. Obviously that’s a tough ask given the current state of the batting lineup - they’re one or two wickets away from a total collapse.

Also Pujara's innings has been outstanding. Not played one false shot, completely blunted Ali when he was troubling Rohit in the beginning and punished every single bad ball. And that's with a somewhat injured ankle.

Even with the inevitable collapse, I think we will get a lead of around 250. Should be a great test match.

I'm not sure many England fans fancy this ti be a great test from here. Could be a formality.

Out of all the balls to get out ffs.

It the idea is to send a left handed batsmen than wouldn't it make more sense to send Pant? Pant is definitely a better batter than Jadeja.
