England v Australia - Second Ashes Test - Lord's

This is getting silly from England.

Not really, it seems the Ausies would get offered the light if we declared and would obviously take it so we may as well see out the overs that are left today and have two full days to bowl them out.

Strauss is out of his depth. He looked nervous when Freddy posed a question.

Yeah but there's no point going off dec. at 521 with 2 days to go when they will just take the light and have 2 days on a batting pitch at 521.

It's falling on deaf ears Manx.

Ay there's no sense putting them in to bat now

Putting them in to bat earlier today though...

Let's hope the weather is better than predicted, and our bowling attack is good enough to roll over Australia in whatever play remains

It's not falling on deaf ears. It's frustrating England are in this position with the weather forecast not ideal. They should have asked the Aussies to follow on. They would have been on course to win the game tomorrow.

I'd be tempted to bad for half hour in the morning, just tell Freddy to go out there and whack everything.

That's a different arguement all together Sults and there is no guarantee of your scenario at all, who's to say the ausies wouldn't have dug in and posted a large score of their own, seen it happen many times over the years.

Why's that Manx, surely we've got more than enough runs on the board considering the record highest second innings winning score is 418.

I agree.

However it seems over the last few years fear of losing has overtaken the England camp. Positive vibes have gone.

Then you don't deserve to win

The situation as it is, Australia might be on the ropes and we run out of time

Enforcing the follow on was just a no brainer with the weather forecast as it is. And if they do bat fantastically and make 400, England still have a good target they can knock off in the final innings, at whatever speed is required

The game could have been over early tomorrow. Now it's odds on it'll go 5 days and if the weather fecks us, we've drawn a brilliant situation

Yeah, there has been recent examples of this from England I agree, don't think it applies to this test though, we're in a great position to win this game now weather permitting.

What for?

Because we all know what the Aussies can do, and it is a batters pitch.

I guess the decision will depend on the rain forecast.

Just an instinct that is all.

If the weather fecks us then so be it, this is England after all and is one of the things we have to deal with.

I wouldn't say the follow on was a no brainer at all, there's arguments for and against either scenario.

We are in a great position now imo.

Well for me, not so be it

We could have had the Australians batting again with almost 3 days to play

The weather doesn't beat you there. We could have taken it out of the equation

Now it's well and truely in it

They should have put them in when we were 475 ahead. A few overs tonight, and maybe a wicket would have destroyed the Aussies. I'm sure Flintoff's hand waving was frustration seeing he's a very positive character.

If the Aussies managed to win then it would be a world record, and we'd just have to put our hands up and say well done.

Exactly my thoughts Brad.

Totally agree, I'd even say 450, but when Freddy was gestering and when you posted your comment, if we'd of declared then the Ausies would have been offered the light and taken it is what I was saying originally.

I posted my comment before Freddy made his feelings known. :D

And as it stands now we have 2 days to get 10 wickets in what is looking like being moist conditions ideal for bowling.

Weather isn't looking too bad, showers for Sunday, Monday will be largely dry.

It's on! :D

I took this at the time of the decision:

Rain.jpg

Maybe conditions will be better for bowling. Maybe there won't be any play at all for periods. It's just a bad decision given the fantastic situation we'd put ourselves in to let it even be a factor

Let's hope the rain stays away

I hope it's cloudy.

According to BBC weather we should get a full days play on Monday, very little chance of rain, Sunday is looking like on and off showers, should be fine I think (I hope).

For me we did the right thing but didn't take advantage enough. We should havescored faster - KP seemed to be injured which hampered Bopara as well, since they couldn't rotate the strike, and that slow partnership killed us. If we had been 500 ahead at 5.30 (as we may have been if KP hadn't been batting on one leg) we could have had a crack at them tonight before the light became a factor. I think we had 500 in mind all along and for me, there's no way they could have chased that down.

Anyway, declare overnight as time is the biggest issue and hope we get enough time to knock them all over before Monday evening.

Matt Prior was talking to the BBC and the plan was to declare and put the Aussies in for the last half hour to 45 mins of the day.

Looking at the weather for the next two days, we may have to write off...a couple of hours all told, which still leaves plenty four our needs. CMJ, Tuffers and Gus Fraser were debating how long to bat for ahead of lunch as it happens [Although this seems highly unlikely going by what Prior said].
