England v Australia - Fifth Ashes Test - The Oval

We have set them 546 to win , they have no chance of winning ,batting for over 2 days to save the draw is near impossible.
Trott scored 117 ,he had a very good first test and will be back Iam sure.
Flintoff to get the winning wickets .

Tremendous innings from Trott. What a way to be inducted into Test Cricket.

HE'S NAME IS JONNY TROTT, HE HAS A GREAT BIG COCK, HE PLAYED IN THE ASHES,
AND MADE THE WINNING KNOCK!?!

I can't believe anyone actually thinks the Aussies can chase this

As Sam said above, the chances are basically zero

Because it is England, I have this minor doubt that it is possible.

Generally this kind of target is impossible, anyway.. might look like they'll come close at some point, but once it ends and when you look at it on paper it looks like it was never a contest. Like that Haddin/Clarke stand at Lord's which momentarily looked threatening.

As far as I know the biggest ever chase was the Windies' a few years ago when Sarwan and Chanderpaul smacked the crap out of the Aussies and they got 418. But that was in Antigua, and it was a side with them two and Brian Lara.

I'm about as pessimistic as they come about England, but even I don't think this Australia team are going to smash that by 128 runs at the Oval. I don't know what you cnuts are talking about.

The only chance for the Aussies is the draw, and as pete says, the only real way for that to happen is rain.

I see what you mean, we should be looking at 4th innings totals rather than winning ones as such.

Still, according to cricinfo the record's still only 451, with the exception of a somewhat absurd English 654/5 to draw the match in 1939 (which surely has to have been an endless test).

This team, this ground, this total... No chance.

While I agree with you Plech I think that you may also be tempting fate. This is an English (South African) cricket team we are talking about. The range of ways we can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is phenomenal.

It should be fine.

Just shows how hard it is to bat in the 4th innings.

Before SA and then the Windies broke the highest 4th innings winning total record recently, it stood for about 25 years.

Though if anyone can do it, its Australia.

Would be a coup if they pulled off a draw. I'm quite content we'll wrap it up after lunch though.

Watson will go early tomorrow and we'll crumble... all out for ~200 or so I reckon.

I cant believe England are going to win back the Ashes.. :(

Going into this test England didn't deserve shit.

But credit where credit's due, they played well when it counted the most: Last day of the first test, the second test (wouldn't actually say this counted the most, but in terms of a psychological victory it would've been huge) and now in the decider.

Well,doom monger here

Are we all so confident now ..... Plech ?!

It's now a fresh start for them on 466 to win - all wickets remaining

I share your thoughts and against any other side I'd say it's all over but

a/ this England and
b/ there are 4/5 batsman in this Ozz side quite capable of smashing 100+ and as I said yesterday Ponting if he gets right in could easily hit a double ton

The pitch is definitely not the same one that Broad magic'd up two days ago and its gonna be a baking hot day

By all the rules, finished - but if Ponting is in and only a couple of wckets have gone by lunch and with no real pressure on the Ozz as they're expected to lose this then I hate to think what could happen

Hard to believe Im saying this is this situation bit we need a couple of wkts before lunch........ or else :wenger:

It's not the same no, it's two days older

We can always be relied on to collapse miserably, but to lose this game would be... well, one of the all-time catastrophes

Yeah, but its not deteriorated has it

Trouble is Plech England at cricket is always a possible all time catastrophe :nervous:

Swann needs to get a firm grip of it for me. It is dusty and will turn appreciably in the right hands

Can you image Warne on this - be all over just after lunch although tbf he was something extra special

Watson gone. What a predictable wicket. He's been struggling to play good length deliveries on/just outside off stump.

Pitch's got uneven bounce on it. Swann's bowling well.. Anderson and Flintoff not even had a bowl yet. England got this sewn up.

If you ever needed two men that could bat all day, then its Ponting and Hussey.

Hussey needs to step up and be counted for. If he can get a score, it'll save his career. He's playing for it.

I wouldn't confidently expect Hussey to bat out an over.

That he's kept his place in the team at the expense of players like Victoria's Brad Hodge is a fecking scandal.

Meanwhile, here's a picture of Joseph Ducreaux bowling left arm orthodox

I wish it'd hurry up so we can get the media wankfest over with as soon as possible. The scenes of the team drunkely parading around London in an opentop bus like they've actually achieved something of note will be cringeworthy.

He should be dropped regardless of what he does in this innings. He's had enough chances over the last season to perform, and he hasn't.

BTW you have actually watched him lately? He's the last person you'd expect to bat out a day, thesedays.

Another 50 runs from this partnership and we might have a real game.

fecking idiots. They were looking absolutely brilliant.
