England Tour of India

It’s been a thrilling series so far with some some world class individual performances almost daily. Today it’s been Duckett’s turn to shine, what an innings. Totally fearless. Bumrah was also excellent again, what a bowler he is, a joy to watch.

It makes a nice change to look forward to England batting rather than expecting them to be 20-3 every time. Crawley and Duckett have consistently got the side off to good starts since their partnership started.

Still a long way to go here though, you'd think they will need to get into the lead to stand a chance. Lose a couple early tomorrow and it suddenly looks a tough ask to get close.

Can't believe i'm writing this but I fancy us to win this one if we get within 50.

Not happening for all the bs india will end up with a lead in the first innings, some bumrah magic and the ball staying low will see england collapse at some point in the first or the second session. But english start has proven again how fecking garbage most of our batting lineup is, fecking bumrah was smashing the ball with little difficulty yet we managed to get ourselves to 35-3 on this wicket.

How about 450? Were you honestly going into that innings thinking that they should score 500?

It’s a fantastic score on a pitch that is predicted to break up from tomorrow onwards.
Still think it is a fantastic score?

Yes, I think from 33-3 and an inexperienced middle order it’s a bloody great score. Even if England score 450, my opinion wouldn’t change, not sure this is even a debate. England are going to need to bat incredibly well to reach 450.

What an innings from Duckett, I was a little nervous England would be 50/5 but that was some session for England. Need to go on though and try and get a lead or parity at least as this pitch will probably get worse don't want to be chasing too many.

I worry about that every time England go out to bat. Me and everyone else whose formative years were in the 90s.

Test match is finely poised right now. As Ashwin said, it will be incredibly difficult to bat on day 5 on this pitch especially as it’s already turning.

Have to applaud England here. They have shown you can play in turning tracks as well. This will be a great series if it continues like this.

The Bazball era is flooded with innings in which England go crazy at the top and then don’t end up with a huge score. I hope they prove me wrong tomorrow but I still think India will have a lead

Have the same feeling but hope springs eternal! Still a lot of good batsmen to come and, as Sarfaraz showed, it's a lot easier to come out and play when you know the guys before you have set a good platform. I think it's important that Duckett and Root both stick around for a bit tomorrow morning and score some runs, if they do we ought to be able to get a lead. Won't hold my breath though!

Rohit's captaincy of Ashwin has been poor this series

Ashwin clearly looks the best bowler here for us here today, and he keeps under bowling him

Just to support your point. Absolutely agree with what you are saying. And I am glad Ashwin himself has also brought that to the attention.

Ashwin has withdrawn from the test due to a family emergency. Crazy news and hope things turn out ok for him

How does that work? Can he be replaced or are they just a man down
I wonder if the opposing captain can allow a sub? The English team seem decent enough to accept something like that.

Damn - just saw the Ashwin news. Hope things work out ok and he's able to feature in the rest of the series.

Even if England did and I’m sure they would, not sure what the views from the Umpires would be. Personally think they need to apply some common sense and allow one in these extenuating circumstances.

Hope all is ok for Ashwin and his family. Hopefully something can be sorted out between the match referee, umpires and teams so that the match continues 11 vs 11.

Hope all turns out well for Ashwin and his family. Shame for the match as well, you don’t want to see teams a man down during a test for these type of reasons. If Ashwin isn’t available tomorrow, with India still needing 8 wickets and having selected 2 seamers, missing Ashwin definitely impacts the captains options, and if he doesn’t take further part in the match it also weakens India’s lower order batting.

The sub player can’t bat or bowl which is a huge disadvantage.
Seems pretty unfair really maybe that rule is in place to avoid teams gaming the system, not that I doubt for one minute this isn’t a genuine emergency

It’s not about sorting something out between teams, the ICC rules state they can only have a player replaced as fielder. It’s unfortunate, but I don’t think the teams, match referee and umpires are authorized to agree to anything for an official test match or the game loses its official status.

Obviously you can’t change the rules half way through a test match, India will lose a batter/bowler for sure. It’s a different debate about whether this rule should be in place. I personally don’t like it having such an influence on a test match but I can understand it goes into murky waters if you’re swapping bowlers out.

Personally for Ashwin, such a shame for it to happen on a day a day where he should be celebrating 500 wickets too.

Yeah, that's exactly why... Rule is only if it's a concussion sub.

Harsh though - a personal/family issue isn't the same as an injury. Would think there'd be dispensation for it.
