England - Euro 2021 Discussion | FA chairman: Southgate to be offered new contract until Euro 2024

Quoting @Dante 's post here:

I'm surprised Saka is back in myself. I thought we'd stick with the same 11 we played against Ukraine.
Saka didn't do anything wrong and also able to help out defense. Maehle is a big threat going forward in Denmark team.

Saka inclusion not bad by the look of whole things considered with his pace, work rate and his ability to join defense and attack.

Not saying it's bad at all, mate. I've raved about Saka on here myself. I just thought, after our biggest victory in the tournament, we'd stick with the side that produced said result.

You do know that Ronaldo does have a Euro to his name, right? The last one?
Yeah of course, but it was widely noted at the time how ecstatic he was about it despite the final being a bit of a shitshow for him personally.

Better team tbf despite the penalty being dodgy as feck.

I still maintain that you've reached a final in spite of Southgate rather than because of him. That Rice/Phillips midfield....

It does take the shine off a bit to win it with a dive. Especially when we were easily the better team and should have won it in regulation time, let alone the extra 30. I just don’t agree with the team selection at all, you can point at the fact that we’re in the final and that proves him right. But I think we’d have won it a lot more comfortably had he played a better team.

I would honestly consider bringing Henderson in for the final. He looks up up speed and our midfield was absolutely shocking for the most part today.

I think Southgate is probably shutting his critics up on basis of results. One can say that they have all the attacking talent, however, their defence is the weakness and to win international tournos you need to be able to hide your weakness more than show off your strength.

His decisions are ballsy - Grealish off for Trippier could have backfired just like numerous decisions of his this tournament, but he's getting results out from the team and one can't question him as long as he's ticking the most important box.

Lastly, the game management in last 7-8 mins was excellent. Kept the ball, kept moving it from side to side and killed the game off. Top quality management right there

There is nothing better if you won the game. Many times england got punctured by playing too open. Need to win first a trophy.

For all its worth its very young team and can go two three tournies as core. So winning now will be huge mental boost for players who all are participating in it.

Fecking get in! Incredible performance from the second half until the end. Utterly brilliant.

Thing is now, it would be harsh to drop Rice/Phillips for Henderson after they have played all games and got them to the final. I doubt Gareth will make any changes. Unless there is a knock etc.

Deservedly in the final overall. Italy aren't to be underestimated though.

Stones and Maguire have been class.

Wouldn't have Saka starting on Sunday, but I'm sure he will. Thought he was massively average. Henderson should play too, but he won't.

Maguire is unreal though. So glad we have him for Utd.

I got the impression during that game that this tournament is perhaps too early for him. Clearly a talent though.

Classless English fans booing the Danish national melody after everything this team have been through. Razor-thin penalty. Deserved victory through. Hope Italy whoop your asses in the final.

Pretty much. Obvious he's one for the future but his inexperience is quite evident. It's not like he's playing in many big important games at club level, and some times that shows especially with his age.

I thought we could have won that in 90 minutes if southgate was more adventurous.

They were done at 70 minutes, put on some real pace in either sancho or rashford, grealish for mount and go for it.

He will have to do it in the final to win at some point. I guess he'll start set up as we were against germany, but he'll need real attacking intent during the game eventually to break italy down.

Southgate really doesn't give a shit about what anyone thinks which is absolutely incredible considering he carries this good guy image . What a legend. People still putting him down in this thread , some things just never change

Weird thing to post in a thread about the England team in a forum with mostly England fans

Wasn't too impressed with Southgate tonight but who gives a shit. We completely knackered them and then finished the job eventually.

I think I'm being rather gracious, actually, England were better and won on merit, I don't even care too much about the penalty as I think England would have scored eventually anyway. But booing the anthem was just sickeningly bad form considering the circumstances.

This is a thread about the Danish team and most of the posters are Danish. No it isn't.

100% agree with this and one of the reasons why England are one of the worst set of fans around. Forget the circumstances it's always bad form.

Don`t take it personally , England fans boo every anthem.

Maybe I'm just broken, but I don't care about national anthems, it's like people who cry about flags being disrespected, its just so unimportant to me. It all seems so weirdly old fashioned and from a bygone era to get so worked up over it.

All hail sir Gareth Southgate. Whatever you can call him if he was manager of that golden generation period of scholes Lampard Gerrard era he would have benched one of those or two and could have made england functional defensively stubborn unit.

Whatever you can call it defensive boring shit football but he is the manager made england into play world cup semis now euro finals too.
