Emre Can| Signed for 'Pool

He was awful against us when we won 5-0, Valencia absolutely tore him apart. Never seen him play in midfield though.
Can you name any Leverkusen player who wasn't awful against you when you won 5-0?

Can has potential in midfield - the area he's used to play - but is still very young and therefore inconsistent. I think that Leverkusen's new manager will want to keep him but I wouldn't be surprised if Can takes the opportunity to join Liverpool.

No but he made Valencia look world class, which few players do.

Not sure what to make of this. Seems a decently rated young player in Germany, he gets some games with their U21's and younger squads. Only time I have seen him play was not impressive, but what can you really tell from one game. Not expensive to sign, given his buyout clause, so low risk from that standpoint. If he doesn't get games at Liverpool though, will set back his development.

He's not very good, in my opinion. Like a clumsy (clumsier?) Khedira. Very loose passer too.

Young, more versatile, ability to dribble.

Probably not as good as Khedira no, not the end of the world for a 20 year old

Not the end of the world, no.

Could be a good signing if they have patience. He hasnt reached the potential that some expected, but still given time he can come good.

Interesting to see how he gets on. Brings something different to their midfield, he looks a big lad 6'2" or so and well built.

Seems Liverpool bound:

Any good? Not sure why we aren't interested at that price, surely an upgrade on Cleverly / Anderson / Fletcher.
Are we bumping with the mail? Why not bump all of BarneyITK's little snippets of shite about Liverpool. Seems legit.
edit: I don't get the little twitter feed things, they're blocked on all of my browsers. I only read the bump and not the rest it seems.

re: Above - he was pretty awful against us but he was playing at right fullback which he was only filling in wasn't he?

Yeah, he played as a LB against us, and was awful. Not really his fault.

Surprised Leverkusen have sold him, but 7m profit can't be sniffed at I suppose. Be interesting to see who Leverkusen go for as a replacement. Be funny if they sign Geis from Mainz. That'd be a big improvement on Can and the same age.

Good signing for them. Must say, Pool are planning their transfers very well.

No urgent need for a striker but obviously they need backup and cant afford to spend much so they get Lambert on the cheap on a 2yr contract. By then, they'l be in a much better position to get a top one in.

Can gives them cover for Gerrard and if he develops properly could succeed him permanently. Again, not a priority signing and the fee will reflect that I imagine.

If they now go ahead and get 1-2 very good defenders, I'd say they've done a great job in the market.

Well there's the headlines already sorted if he flops.

"Cannae take the strain captain!"

I don't know much about him to be honest, only what others have said. I've not watched much bundesliga this year. If he's versatile that's enough for me,we need someone like that in the squad just hope this doesn't end up another Aspas/Alberto situation that's made to look like a shrewd signing but becomes pointless because they don't even feature in the squad.

I only summarise Liverpool Echo articles and post Times articles. ;)

I think this probably means Lucas is gone. Can will be able to play as a back up to Gerrard while also providing depth in other positions. Lucas' biggest problem is that he can only play one position well and after an hour of playing he looks shattered.

They may have had their hand forced. Take 9m now or maybe Bayern buy him back for 4m next summer. Keeps the fans happy that they aren't acting like an academy for Bayern too.

so we've decided emre can't play left back.

Don't know where you're getting your figures from.

Bought from Munich for 5m Euros in 13/14
Sold to Liverpool for 12m Euros in 14/15

BILD are saying that Bayern had the option of matching the 12m (buyout clause) but didn't bother. So therefore Liverpool get a free run at him. So they've made 7m profit from him in one season. Just a shame for the fans, always frustrating to see young players bought up.

I think you're getting mixed up by £ and €. The buying club Liverpool are based in the UK so they use £GBP.

Nope. The fee is 12 million Euros. That's his buyout clause, 12 million Euros. Feel free to work out what it is in GBP if you can be bothered.

Nice name btw. :D

Cheers, an all too quickly forgotten legend.

I wonder was this deal being negotiated while Hyypia was still there. May have done Liverpool a favour.

That would be pretty unprofessional of him if that was the case. I don't know how common knowledge buyout clauses are in contracts if i'm honest. Could easily have come from the players agent for all we know.

We get 2m though. It's 10m to Leverkusen and 2m to Bayern. In the end, we sold Can for 7.5m overall, that's great business for a player who played 4 games for us and Hojbjerg is clearly the bigger talent. Leverkusen made 4.5m and had a decent player for a year, not bad either.

Geis would be a brilliant signing. They also might pay a bit of money to get Kramer back from his loan deal this summer instead of next, which also would be an improvement, even though he's a slightly different type of midfielder.

Ah wasn't aware of the 2m to Bayern. I'm pretty sure you sold him for 5m euros though, at least that's what every article I've read alludes to. So Leverkusen would have made 5m profit. I can't help but think that Geis is going to be the next German star that everyone wants. Being pushed into DM last season really evolved him as a player. If Leverkusen could get him as a replacement, I think they'll have a better midfield tbh. Good shout on Kramer, forgotten about him!

Somehow I remember it being 5.5, could be wrong though. Anyway, still think it's a good deal for everyone involved. He's still a good talent, and I could see him fitting into the Premier League really well. He's not that big of a talent that he's irreplaceable for Leverkusen and he never really had a chance to make it at Bayern.

Agreed. I think Leverkusen can and probably will bring in better tbh. They need the extra cash anyway looking at their squad!

There are rumours that Bayer will pay them their sponsorship money for the next 3 years all at once this summer, so that they can invest a lot to strengthen the team. Should be interesting, though it's Leverkusen, I can't take them seriously until they prove me wrong

They're like the Tottenham of the Bundesliga. Taken me a full season to work that one out! :D

I think they do have a lot of potential though, got some exciting young players in their starting lineup. Getting Brandt and Drmic for a combined 7m Euros is superb. I'm interested to see how this Wendell does as well, all the articles I've read seem to be bigging him up. If they could get in Geis and Hakan, then they could really be dangerous. I imagine they won't get either though! :p

Seriously though, I think he'll be a decent signing for them. Nothing special but, much like Lambert, he'll improve their squad depth.

If he can be another Henderson for the time being I will be quite happy.

Comes across as a bit selfish on the pitch, leading to making poor decisions at times, but he can improve as he's only 20. Wonder what Rodgers could do with him.

I'm rather pleased with the way Liverpool are handling their transfers this season. As an United fan, of course.

Their first team is still no doubt class, but the transfers they're making are laughable. They're practically steals in terms of price in relation to performance, but they're transfers that would have made sense 2 years ago when Liverpool were struggling at 7th. For a team with CL football on the horizon and fan expectations for them to mount a challenge for the title again, they're just laughable transfers. What's worse (read: better for us) is that their "big target" is Lallana. A vastly overrated mediocre MF that'll cost them around £10m more than he's actually worth.

All that said, they're in better fettle than we are, but I was afraid they were gonna strengthen to untouchable heights. As it stands, all it would take for them to tank is an injury to Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard or even a pivotal midfielder like Lucas or Henderson.
