Liverpool have completed a deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can, according to reliable German publication Bild.

The 20-year-old is extremely versatile, and was deployed in various positions for the Bundesliga outfit this term just finished.

He’s most comfortable in an anchoring midfield role, but Can played ten matches at left-back, two in central defence, and even one game as a wide left forward.

Due to his style, strength and skill on the ball, he’s been dubbed ‘The New Michael Ballack’ in his homeland, which will no doubt get the mouths of Liverpool fans watering.

Unlike Bild, Respected German football journalist Raphael Honegstein claims a deal is yet to be completed, but reckons a transfer is likely because of the Liverpool’s manager’s relationship with Can’s agent.

Emre Can’s agent has a very good relationship with Brendan Rodgers. Did Sahin and Yesil deals

Liverpool are keen to strengthen their squad this summer, after narrowly missing out on Premier League title glory, finishing 2nd, two points behind champions Manchester City.

Rodgers currently can deploy the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen, Coutinho and Lucas in central midfield, although there are rumours that the latter is a big target for Inter Milan.

If Can has completed a move to Anfield, he would add a number of different attributes to the squad. He can dribble through the centre of the park, but also prides himself on his range of both short and long passes. He can tackle, too – but often gives away fouls because of his tenacity.

Can came through the ranks at Bayern Munich, but moved to Leverkusen last summer. He is eligible to play for the Turkish national side, but has multiple caps for German youth teams at the moment.

In 2013/14, he made 29 starts in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering three assists too.

Thought Bayern had a buy back clause on him, maybe they've deemed him not good enough to return.

Reliable German Newspaper "Bild" made me laugh. Anyway wasn't he the left back which Tony completely destroyed in our matches against us, or am I thinking of somebody else?

Perhaps the German posters would know better, but didn't stand out in our matches against them.

I know he was playing out of position, but he was woeful in the two games against us. Not seen him a lot playing in midfield, mind, but I've heard he's meant to be pretty good.

He's basically another big club reject, which can go either way, but in fairness Liverpool have had some success with in Sturridge and Coutinho.

Yeah, I don't know a lot about him but I do know he was a midfielder being played at left back. His versatility is about as good as Smalling's.

Emre Can was 16 years old back then and probably watched the games at home on television . Badstuber is the centerback who was played out of position at leftback in 2010 and he struggled against Valencia's pace.

Oh my bad. I thought you guys were talking about United - Bayern in 2010 :(. Totally forgot about the Leverkusen games.

 Leverkusen?

His positioning was absolutely awful against us. Might be a decent player but he's no left back, not yet anyway.

For what it's worth, I don't think he ever had a future at Bayern and I think quite a few German midfield talents played significantly better this season than him. If he leaves and Leverkusen calls Kramer back from Gladbach, they make a profit and have a better player.

I had really high hopes for this guy, looked like a complete midfielder! has not developed as well as I thought he would. This could the chance for him, he's still young.

Liverpool have done very well with both Coutinho and Sturridge, two players "rejected" by the top clubs who have been nurtered and developed by Rodgers into excellent players with their best years ahead of them. He must feel he can do the same with another big club "reject" in Can.

I too, seem to recall an out of position Can devoid of any positional awareness being ran ragged by a shite Antonio Valencia in our 5-0 win at the BayArena. That game, along with the home leg are the only games I've seen of him mind you.

I don't think he'll improve Liverpool's midfield next season.Still have plenty of time on his hands though.

He'll be an understudy to Gerrard. If we get him, Lucas rumours to Inter will probably start picking up even more.

He is a great athlete, physically strong with good/solid technique. Player like him always look great in a youth setup, because they can bully their opponents. Once those players start playing against adults/professionals, thats getting a lot harder. Emre never really adapted to this new challenge.
His weakness has been the same since his youth. He doesnt know how to use his qualities efficiently. His decision making is terrible. He is out of position all the time, losing the ball careless and doesnt know when to pass/dribble. When he left Munich, he was miles away from a decent amount of time on the pitch.
He is only 20, so there is still time for a manager to help him improve. I wouldnt count on it so.

He was in the Leverkusen lineup when they played us in the CL no? Wasn't too impressed but he's a big fecker for his age, still young though

he cant control games. His passing is not good enough and he is too headless. He is more a defensive b2b player. He was used as FB/CB a few times.

Most players can't control games at his age. It's something that he'll hopefully learn to do as he matures.

Just saw them mention this on the European football show. Never heard of him so can't say anything about him. He's got a release clause of 10m or something.
