Elon Musk | Doer of things on X and sad little man

 you keep telling yourself that
Schrödinger’s Musk. ‘The biggest threat to the democracy’ as I heard in Caf, but also not relevant in the autocrat’s Trump victory at the same time.

Trump might have won the election without Musk, but Musk turning Twitter from a left wing cesspool into a right wing cesspool, putting hundreds of millions in Trump’s campaign and putting his advertisement team in the campaign, I think played a large factor in Trump’s massive victory.

Musk didn’t need to buy Twitter to bankroll Trump’s campaign. In fact, if he didn’t buy Twitter he could have used that money to give Trump even more funds.

The “left wing cesspool” thing is, obviously, mental. Twitter, just like all other social media, has been absolutely stacked with right wing content since long before Musk owned it.

Him possibly having very little impact in one particular election doesn't make turning twitter into overt propaganda tool much less dangerous long term.

Tesla stock surging again today.

Seems like having stock before the election was the equivalent of having a bet on Liverpool to win the league should the worst happen (like it will this season it seems ).

I sold my shares during the peak of the 'meme stock' craze a couple of years ago, as did my father but as he has no impulse control then he bought himself back in shortly afterwards and has since been in heavy losses on the stock. Now he's burst past his break-even point and is in decent profit, and all it took was the promise of another four years of Trump. Yay :annoyed:

Has it been confirmed how Musk knew about the election results and that Trump won well in advance?

Now that Trump is elected, a lot of people would like to move to Mars. Elon wins

He should sell, honestly. But I'm no trader.

I'm very curious to see how all this is going to play out. If Elon is Trump's puppetmaster the mere appearance of it will either annoy Trump first, or the many other powers seen and unseen out there will take some serious issue with his influence. To quote Lord of the Rings: "There is only one Lord of the Rings, and he does not share power"

When was twitter a "left wing cesspool"? I swear none of you people know what a left winger is. "It's thems who like gay people and wokeness innit?"

He did call Musk left-leaning previously and it was always a cesspool, so I guess that kinda checks out.

You may be on to something.

Thinking Twitter has ever been a "left wing cesspool" can only be described as hypercentrism.

Early days and there's been false dawns before but Bluesky gaining a bit of momentum the last few days.

Why has this taken so long? Hopefully more and more big companies leave it to rot

Guardian will no longer post on Elon Musk’s X from its official accounts

Platform’s coverage of US election crystallised longstanding concerns about its content, says Guardian
Interesting. When it was a leftwing cesspool they were fine with it, but a right wing cesspool is too much?!

I have a very far left leaning friend who basically thinks the same. He s not worried because Elon is such a great guy and will fix everything, including the birds and the trees. Of course he also drives a Tesla. I can't even ...
Sounds like a walking contradiction. Is he well-informed about Musk? Because you'd imagine someone very far left leaning, would be upset about a guy so anti-union (which is just one example out of many, of course).

I generally have considered him well informed and very intelligent yes, but i have also come to the conclusion many people go through life with blinders on. He thinks of Musk the same way as many with Trump: yeah he s done some evil or wrong shit but I like this or that about him so I'm going to ignore all the other stuff. I remember him being pissed his Tesla dropped in value so much but he put the blame with the Elon haters and anti environment groups.

How does a very far left leaning person even approve of someone accumulating the amount of wealth Musk has? Trotsky was far left Leaning. He would not have approved of Elon.

It seems that in US political discourse not hating gay and brown people is enough to be considered left wing.

Pretty much. A true left wing here is but a tiny fraction when it comes down to it. Most Americans - even when they're about as progressive as they come - will often still staunchly believe in American exceptionalism and capitalism. They just may not say it out loud.

It's called cognitive dissonance.

If this bloke's far left leaning friend is a fan of Musk, then this bloke's far left leaning friend is, in fact, not far left leaning.

They've added 1m users since the election and have 15m users now. That should be enough to move the needle. We just need more key influencers to set up accounts before it takes off.
