Eduardo Camavinga / signs for Real Madrid

Well I am sure we are pitching to his people about the opportunity to play with his idol Pogba (yes I know he could still leave), potentially reunite with his new international team mate Varane and also link up with one of the best wingers in Jadon

Mct doesn’t stack up against the competition apart from goals. Fred does. Maybe Camavinga will eventually phase Fred out of the team but I’d put money on it that Camavinga McT will never be our regular midfield.
Fred is absolutely atrocious, gives away the ball too much, yes he runs and that's all he does, the opposition know let him take a few touches and he'll give the ball back to them, caused us to concede many goals last season.

30M in today market for him? That’s insane one would be stupid not to close this deal.

Romano says personal terms aren't going to be a problem since he'd be keen to move, it's just about agreeing an acceptable fee with Rennes

Yes

We shouldn't just be looking at talented players, we should be looking at talented players that are better than our current options, and would fit into the system.

Looking at how the team is, I consider Fred our best option in center midfield, and any midfielder we are signing should be better or at least good enough to displace our other options if we aren't misplacing our priorities. If Camavinga is that player, then I expect we would try to fit him in a two with Fred, and that could be a problem because they are both left-footed.

Obviously we could make it work, but I'm sure Camavinga is not the only midfielder we are keeping tabs on, and he is not established enough for us to be making compromises.

Is it just Lefties you don't like?

Or are you claiming you can't have two CMs having the same stronger foot?

He is a backup/replacement for Pogba, not an improvement for Fred or Mctominay, what we need.

He could be that, but he's young enough to be shaped into deeper role in midfield if needed. Definitely long term project at significant point.

Euros as opposed to £s.
€35m Euros = £30m. Think they’d take that

Thats still a steal for a player of his quality and he’ll still have a resale value even if things don’t work out and if they do you guys have an insane talent in midfield.

Where do you get this idea? His style of play is more like Fred/McT but better, than it is Pogba. Also we play with a double pivot, so it's for one of those spots whichever way you look at it.

Two lefties. There are naturally more right-footed players, and teams generally tend to attack more through their left wing because that is where their best players usually play or drift to.

If you play with two left-footed midfielders in a midfield two, then the one on the right side would be at a disadvantage because he'd be defending on his weak side, and also attacking on his weak side.

I wouldn't mind to pay a little more to close the deal sooner than later. At 30m, that's guarantee there will be a bidding war.

Where is that coming from? Do you have stats about it?

He plays like a blend of Pogba and Fred. Offers Freds pressing and tackling, offers Pogbas ball carrying through the middle. He's an improvement on the more adventurous player in the double pivot (not instant, but eventual) but yes he like Fred would still need someone who sits in position IMO.

Our approach has changed so much in the last few years for the better. Fantastic to see.

For €35 million we could potentially be selling him to Madrid in 5 years for €100 million. If he helps wins us a CL and a league in that time I’ll say thank you and goodbye. He’s surely going to be another one who dreams of Madrid. So does Haaland. Until we get to the point where we are winning the CL every few years and paying those kinds of wages that will always be the case. The only way to change that dynamic is by upsetting it. I really don’t get why everyone was slagging off Dortmund when our whole league was basically just a feeder system for the big 2 in Spain and it’ll probably go back to being like that when the Spanish sort themselves out. If we are nipping in taking these lads and getting titles and money from using them then I don’t see the hassle. There will always be other players. We need to catch up

At first I thought you were joking. Where did you get this from?

If anything a team with two lefties would be at an advantage because every other team pretty much just has right footers, everything they face would be on their strong side, based on your logic.

The people who think he's a Pogba replacement are a bit clueless. It's not even a lazy comparison, its an ignorant one.
To be fair though, I don't think United would go for a like-for-like replacement for a player (Pogba) who we've had continued issue in figuring out what to do with.

I think if this does get done, then it'll be one where Rennes and ourselves meet each other halfway at 40m.

The fear, for me, is that PSG (I don't think it will be Real) will gazump us at the last minute.

If he’s open to a move here, i reckon it should be done once United eventually agree a fee with Rennes. I just hope we don’t take too long and long enough to let PSG come into the picture and sway his decision

Bidding war? That's a myth.
Would you think other clubs won't be interest to sign him for just 30m? He just wants to leave Rennes for a bigger club. There could be plenty, especially for top young talents like him. Last time we try to buy a top young talent for cheap, Haaland that is, it wasn't really a successful bid.

Where is that coming from? Do you have stats about it?
I'm sure I've seen one that showed that more teams predominantly attack through the left in the Premier League at least, though the other one about teams having their best players on the left is just an observation.

Yes but the fee for Rennes would still be the same, the war will be for his signature. Wages, game time, the project.
Didn't meant to say the price would be big different, just saying there could be more competition for his signature, the longer we drag into negotiating for better price.

Christ, how many people are going to come in this thread to propose he is a Pogba replacement?

Yes, he is also French and yes, he’s also black. I get the confusion, I really do… But they are miles apart in how they play football. Literally Camavinga’s biggest strength, his tackling, is Pogba’s absolute weakness.

If he is bought, then the hope will probably be that he’ll grow into an improvement on McFred. And if I must point to a player he resembles in style a bit, I would say Frenkie de Jong. I know, really confusing again as Frenkie is white and blonde, but in terms of style they’re very similar. Be it, the frenchman with little bit less flair, but with more tenacity.

People saying he’s not capable of playing the DM role in a pivot are wrong. He does so for Rennes and his numbers are staggering for his age.

...averages 5 tackles/interceptions per game. He’s so young + multifaceted in his footballing qualities that he can be directed and moulded to take on a variety of different roles. Example: as things stand if he’s brought in and Pogba stays for the upcoming year, you can assure the coaching staff will want him to control the middle of the pitch and be the one reliable for more of the defensive responsibilities. And then on the flip side if Pogba leaves the following summer, Camavinga is so talented they could ask of him to take on more of the Pogba (attacking/playmaking) role at pivot while looking for someone else to do the role he would do this upcoming year if inked. It’s not even like it would be forced, he’s just that damn versatile and efficient to do multiple jobs.

Comparing his numbers to someone like Rice, Camavinga is ahead in virtually every stat except interceptions, blocks, clearances, and aerial duels but all of them just by a whisker. All while at the same time, he is faaar ahead in progressive passes. Would be quite literally the best of both worlds if he’s able to translate without many road bumps.

Comparing to some notable midfielders - Camavinga has amazing defensive statistics.

he has all the makings of a sitting midfielder, similar to what prime Matic was if he’s developed and groomed into that role.

.....what a signing this would be

I’m very sold on this. His ballcarrying stats + his insane innate tackling and interception ability = potential to be a phenomenal central midfielder
