People saying he’s not capable of playing the DM role in a pivot are wrong. He does so for Rennes and his numbers are staggering for his age.
...averages 5 tackles/interceptions per game. He’s so young + multifaceted in his footballing qualities that he can be directed and moulded to take on a variety of different roles. Example: as things stand if he’s brought in and Pogba stays for the upcoming year, you can assure the coaching staff will want him to control the middle of the pitch and be the one reliable for more of the defensive responsibilities. And then on the flip side if Pogba leaves the following summer, Camavinga is so talented they could ask of him to take on more of the Pogba (attacking/playmaking) role at pivot while looking for someone else to do the role he would do this upcoming year if inked. It’s not even like it would be forced, he’s just that damn versatile and efficient to do multiple jobs.
Comparing his numbers to someone like Rice, Camavinga is ahead in virtually every stat except interceptions, blocks, clearances, and aerial duels but all of them just by a whisker. All while at the same time, he is
faaar ahead in progressive passes. Would be quite literally the best of both worlds if he’s able to translate without many road bumps.
Comparing to some notable midfielders - Camavinga has amazing defensive statistics.
he has all the makings of a sitting midfielder, similar to what prime Matic was if he’s developed and groomed into that role.
.....what a signing this would be
