Behind the premier league, la liga and bundasliga. Its not top.

That's quite a narrow view of things; for me personally, the top 4/5 leagues (Spain, England, Germany, Italy, France) are "top".

It's a top league, but it's quite a bit below the EPL and La Liga with Bundesliga close behind, then there's a pretty big gap between those three and Serie A/Ligue 1.

Why is that narrow? And Why do YOU view them leagues like that when the rest of us view them by how we should? England and Spain and Germany leagues are clearly above French and Italian

Why is that narrow?[1] And Why do YOU view them leagues like that when the rest of us view them by how we should?[2] England and Spain and Germany leagues are clearly above French and Italian[3]

[1] I find it narrow for the simple reason that I follow a lot of football and 4-5 leagues make up only a small part of the existing leagues in the world.
[2] I used the term "for me personally", referring both to the narrowness comment and my ranking of what constitutes "top leagues".
[3] I didn't claim otherwise, in fact I agree with that statement, but I think personally that the gap between (especially) Serie A and the Top 3 isn't as big as the gap between Serie A and lower ranked leagues, hence why I include it as a "top league". For me, there's a significant cut-off point in quality between Italy (and at the most France, but very debatable) and the likes of Portugal, Ukraine, Brazil, Russia, Netherlands, Belgium, Argentina, Scotland, etc...

By the way, what exactly do you mean when you say "...how we should?"

Back to Cavani. Napoli are genuine title contenders and can have a right good go this year. They have the best forward in Italian football and they'd really want to sell him? Arsenal would have to pay £45m at least to get him, and that won't be happening. The story is a complete non-starter. Wenger is dreaming if he thinks he has any chance. Probably just to make it look to the fans that he is trying to do big business.

Hamsik also seems to be moving away from the "eternal promise" tag and closer to full-fledged star player. Very good season he's having so far. 7 goals and 9 assists in 20 apps.

So what are the top 2 or 3 leagues? They are pretty clear and easily defined.

I'm just debating the use of the term "top" leagues by some posters around here; I believe it should include Serie A, even when it's only the 4th best league, for reasons outlined in point [3] of post #86 in this thread.

Lavezzi plays on the wings mostly for them. Where's Ibra going ?

Who do people think is the better striker?

Falcao or Cavani?

feck, Ibrahimovic and Cavani up front for this lot with Lavezzi and Lucas on the wings would be tremendous.

Hard to tell. Falcao is more proven in Europe and has been scoring goals for fun longer but Cavani's all round play is better while Falcao is a better finisher.

Cavani, Falcao and RVP are the best strikers right now. (Excluding Messi obv).

Then Ibra, Aguero, Rooney etc...

Apparently Chelsea are close to signing him now. If it is true, then that will make Chelsea extremely strong indeed. He's a monster everywhere on the pitch, he's not one of those players whose main strength is in and around the box, he's trouble on any part. Really hope this isn't true, but I do feel Chelsea will get either him, Falcao or Lewandowski anyway.

Yep. Now with Falcao supposedly going to Monaco, Lewandowski Bayern bound (supposedly) it seems like Cavani was going to end up at one of Chelsea or City. The only other strikers (worth mentioning) available this summer are Rooney (:nervous:) and Higuain. Maybe David Villa - but not sure if he'll ever recover & regain his old form after the leg break.

Strangely enough, I don't see city splashing on a marquee forward. I can see them replacing Nasri (with someone like Isco) & maybe buy a CM.

City need a top striker, Dzeko will go and Ballotelli has already left. Tevez has a year left on his contract.

Over the past couple of years I think Cavani's been better but you'd have to say Falcao is the more proven player. Falcao's been a success at every club he's been at and he's taken it up a notch for Colombia in the past two years too (9 goals in last 15 games). Cavani's only really shown he can be this prolific for Napoli as of yet.

Falcao is a better (more natural) goal scorer, while Cavani is a better all round player (still with a very good striker rate).

Only thing that Bugs me about Falcao is his lack of pace, against a high defensive line he can struggle.

In and around the box though we all know hes lethal.

Chelsea are getting a top class forward in the Summer anyway so we might as well give up the idea of them starting next season with Torres and Ba as their only options. Whether it's Falcao or Cavani doesn't really matter all that much as both would greatly improve the team.

It matters if it is Falcao since he'll be playing for Monaco :)

This. Cavani is more involved in build up play and more general play than Falcao, who plays high up the line just like van Persie regularly plays for us. I guess you can say they are both extreme comparisons to Rooney and Cavani, and Falcao and RvP, although I'd say RvP is more involved in build up play than Falcao.

If I had to pick one for the team, I probably couldn't haha. They are both in the top 5 strikers category, and both provide 20+ goals a season at least at the clubs they play for, and would provide just as much if they moved to England. Basically I don't want to see them anywhere near the two Blues of England, as the only striker they are on par with is Aguero, and even then I think they are both better.

'Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis plays down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club's new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.'

From the BBC. I do not like this.

Maybe now Mancini has gone that plan has been scuppered?.

Anyway its going to be either them or Chelsea.

Who would be the best signing for a club like Chelsea and city, Falcao or Cavani?

Not seen much of him this season as they not show Serie A here, but looking at his stats for Napoli, 29 goals in 34 games is fantastic.

Exchange deal with City? Who is supposed to leave City and join Napoli then?

I was hoping due to CL qualification de Laurenti would play hardball and refuse to sell Cavani.

Cavani is probably one of my favourite players in the world and my favourite striker. He's one of those players that can make the difference in a title winning side and I wouldn't be surprised if he was as influential to City/Chelsea as RVP was to United.

When I first saw Cavani up close - WC 2010, he was used mainly as a sub for Uruguay but he was USELESS. didn't rate him at all - though I think they tried to use him out on the left of the "3". (Cavani - Forlan- Suarez).

Since then he's been tearing Serie A apart & he's been linked to most top clubs. Safe to say I haven't watched him much though - except highlight reels.
