Edinson Cavani

€80m for Cavani? Absolute madness.

Uh oh. This will no doubt take off again after Sky putting that out. Cavani instead of Di Maria for Woody?

Not seen much of him since he joined PSG, but wasn't really impressed with him at the world cup.

We could conceivably play him as a wide forward, I guess. Not sure about the money being touted though. If he was circa £30m it'd be understandable but at £50m he's far too expensive.

cant see us going for Cavani tbh hes not what we need, unless hes being played up top with RVP or as the No.10, support striker, with Mata being shifted to the wing. We need a couple of defenders in so fingers crossed LVG has already got a few signings lined up and hes going to announce them all at once. This business better end soon I cant hack another summer of muppetry refreshing my page every couple of seconds to see if we sign anyone.

perhaps PSG will want Rooney. Ibra will be 33 in a couple of months and if Cavani was to leave, there really aren't many other high profile strikers available to them, so...

Imagine the statement of intent it would be for Wenger to sign the world class striker that their fans have been begging for for years now.

The Özil signing gave that side a boost last season, so imagine how they'd be after signing Sanchez and Cavani.

They may even be the favorites if they signed Khedira as well.

be good if Rooney was swapped for Cavani think he is past it whereas Cavani still has a few years left to offer. Also with Cavani playing out wide last season itll make him want to prove himself even more as a striker, so sign him Vidal and Hummels up.

Real were sniffing around him a lot for a while.

They need a striker as Benzema blows too hot and cold and is seen as lazy.

Maybe could do a swap but seems they want Falcao now.

for £50m? I'd rather keep Rooney tbh, if we sold Hernandez & Wellbeck then maybe, but I wouldn't replace Rooney with Cavani.
Nah if it was maximum £10m nett loss after that change then it would be fine. Rooney would still command good money.

Cavani is younger and is a far superior finisher. Rooney's overall game isn't what it used to be.

Rooney is a proven performer in the premiership though and can play number 10, Cavani is only really best as a striker and will want to play as much as RVP but without the same ability a lot of the time.

imo we lose more in Rooney than we gain from Cavani, especially at these prices, if we signed Cavani in as competition for Rooney/RVP then I could see that, but to replace one of them I think is daft.

He is obviously very high on the hit list. David Moyes did great work behind the scenes indentifying targets(Herrera,Shaw etc) and I feel Cavani is one of those we just had to get(even though we don't need him....yet). The link just wont go away. Rooney is not leaving(he means too much to the commercial side). RVP is not young though and I reckon we pull the trigger if Van Gaal says yes.

Would probably be well worth the money for Arsenal. Add him and him and Khedira to the team and they'd suddenly look very dangerous. They'd also have nice depth to their squad too...

Would make sense for Liverpool too as a replacement for Suarez.

No idea why we'd even be interested in him though, probably the position we least need to strengthen except maybe GK.

Rooney out, Cavani in would be nice.

Dafuq? Rooney offers way, way more than Cavani. And is just a better player in general. You'd be mad, literally mad, to think that would be in any way a good deal.

Seriously getting pissed off with the Rooney hatred on here.

Dafuq you getting mad about? Cavani is clearly a superior striker to Rooney as his numbers have shown over the years. Mata is clearly a no10 as well.

Sorry but I get irritated by fans who'd flog our best players for average, unfit has-beens. The advantage with Rooney is that he can fill in at both 9 and 10 if needs be. You can't have a squad with just 11 players in it.

But Rooney is almost 29, Cavani is 27 and is a good upgrade in striker terms, that is how we improve our squad. By getting better players in. Of course I agree right now as it stands, this would be pointless, But I would understand if this deal happens.

How the hell do you fit Cavani into our team? That is the problem I have with him coming here.

Fair enough Rooney and RVP will probably get injured somewhere along the line, but he would need to start all the time he's fit, and neither of Rooney or RVP are going anywhere.

Only thing I can think of is this as our front 6:

RVP - Cavani
Rooney
Mata - Herrera
Vidal
Then what do we do with Januzaj and any of the young players coming through?

Cavani is a dupe i think. He was star figure in Napoli, a team that progressed and now is a CL-regular. He changed all that for a shiny PSG and now is unhappy there:lol:

I well maybe in a minority here, but i don't believe Cavani is a top striker that can lead the line in a really top club. I mean you even look at the way Uruguay was set up against Italy and England, when they had Suarez back, in both games he played mainly though the channels, on the sides.

Rooney is a better player than Cavani and comfortably too.

Would be a good signing for Arsenal though as he guarantees goals especially with Ozil/Sanchez feeding him. No matter what you think about Ozil you can't deny he's an assist machine.

If we do end up signing Cavani, although I personally wouldn't want him here, Van Gaal will play him as an inside forward. That said, isn't he supposed to be leaving PSG because he's unhappy with being played out wide?

He's way too much of a risk at that price. He's the sort of player that your lot normally buys.

At that price he's clearly not worth it but he'd still be a significant upgrade on Giroud and it'd make you title challengers with a top class striker in the squad. I don't even rate him that highly but his record speaks for itself.

He's not really, we never sign a player of that kind of calibre or for that kind of price. Soldado was kind of an exception for that but he's nowhere near as expensive or 'big name' as Cavani.
