Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

It wasn’t free according to the reports of the agents fee.
Don’t think we’ll ever know the true details of agent payments, it’s not a big money signing though.

I don’t think it’s an amazing signing at all, we are where we are though and did need a back up striker, I just refuted a few posts making out it was the end of the world and the club is dead and been dragged in from there

You’re saying it’s another Sanchez signing, how you can possibly know that I don’t know but if we’re doing that My cards say it’s another Ibra signing
I'm sorry to say it but your cards are shit, mate. And your attempts at changing what was said to suit your narrative are extremely weak.

If Cavani was worth the wages he's asking for + his agent fees, he would have been picked up already. There is a reason why he wasn't signed yet.
I thought that about Bruno too, he must be shit as no one else was in for him

I wanted someone like Ziyech, would have made so much sense. We had to make 3 signings before the season started, yet again our whole season is compromised due to lack of planning and lack of adequate preparation.
I agree with this

Lets put some context here . Martial is our main striker and rightly so. So essentially we are looking for a backup. Greenwood probably would take the right wing anyway as I don't think Sancho is coming and we are now coming to realization that we need a striker . If Sancho was here ,yes Mason can deputize (personally I don't think he is ready to lead the line yet).

Now whho is realistically available who can come in without a quality drop ?

Spurs just paid 35m for that Brazilian guy. Liverpool has been continuously spending on backup options (Origi, Shaqiri, Mino, Jota- thats 60m+)
Arsenal spent 100m on Laca and Auba.

This is a short term fix until we have Mason ready or Halaand (or any xyz). Its a one year deal with an option for second.

Its going to be okay !
Get out of here with that sense ffs

I didn’t even want Sancho particularly. I just wanted good scouting and reinforcements. We’ve signed a guy who’s been let go and has been available for the past 7 months in reality.
I get you!! with his time out of football and everything, it's going to take a few months to get back to some sort of fitness. If he was part of a plan, surely he'd have been here before due to that.

Whats our style of play? I am curious how many people having actually seen Cavani play and just think he's some kind of target man...

Cavani was a good striker in his prime not saying otherwise, but he's passed it and now potentially moving to a much tougher league. Look I hope you're right and he absolutely smashes it here. I simply don't see it sorry. He'll end up on the bench enjoying his retirement money for two years, more likely 3 because you know we will offer him an extension.

It wasn’t free according to the reports of the agents fee.

No one who signs on a "free" is ever initially free as there's always a signing on fee or agents fee, but I would take the size of the agents fee reported with a pitch of salt. Theres a vested interest by reporters to make the deal look as outlandish as possible especially as we approach deadline, I would wait until its confirmed first.

Uruguay National Coach literally hold a press conference to say Cavani is in such bad shape/condition and concern around injuries that he can't take him to the qualifiers......redcafe eternal optimists "this is a really good signing that should bang in some goal for us"

I don’t see the sense in comparing him to Sanchez, every signing brings something different. The manager has made some decent signings so let’s back him and give the guy a chance.

Most of the negative responses here probably stems from being butt hurt over Sancho, you won’t be crying if Cavani starts smashing them in for fun.

Explains why he wasn't signed by others by now.

At least Dan James will have something to aim at when he puts crosses in from the right

I never said he will "smash it" but as for not "suiting our style" he can play along the front 3 and is a good option to have coming off the bench as opposed to Ighalo, who is pretty limited and not been up to standard bar a few early games

At 34 on a free transfer he really only needs to be a servicable rotational option.

His body is cooked though, so I'm not confident

Rooney declined very quickly because he was genetically built like that. Some players stay athletic their whole lives (Ronaldo, Zlatan), Rooney was never like that. He peaked very early.

From what's been written in the press, I believe Cavani wasn't snapped up by any other top team because of his financial demands. Especially with this years market and everyone tightening their purse because of Covid. We were just in a better position to make the deal happen.

The problem is, we can't buy Sancho AND a top striker. You have to decide which you want more right now. Say we PAY £80M for a young top striker now and wait next summer for Sancho. Whats to say other big clubs are not then in a position to compete for him?
I made the comparison to Rooney because you referenced Cavani's record. He was a top striker a few years ago. Doesn't mean he is anywhere near that now.

That's your opinion, but i would argue it's a bit optimistic. His condition would have had a big bearing on it too. With this years schedule, what good is an old injury plagued player that hasn't played for 7 months?

You misunderstand me. Besides the fact that having Martial means we don't need a top striker to begin with, only a reliable backup, If Cavani was added on top of Sancho/Dembele/other top RW i wouldn't care less and would be okay. But Cavani on his own doesn't do anything for us.

The point is, what is the plan here? If we end the window with no RW added, it's a pointless signing in the grand scheme.

He also says he’s a certain for 2022 World Cup

great, so we just build up his conditioning, does nothing for a year and then goes and sits on the bench at the world cup. 10 million and 200k a week to condition someone for their national team bench.

Probably not a bad deal in the grand scheme of things. Brings a wealth of experience and provided he is happy with a bit part role and the odd start we now have good cover up top.

Maybe he'll be a refreshing signing and actually want to play and fight for his playing time that he bangs in a few goals for us. Plus, if he helps the long term development of Greenwood then I think this is a good option.

Cavani is a Woodward signing, not Ole signing, regardless of whether he does well or not.
Sanchez was a Woodward signing, not a Jose signing.

Neither were United targets in the window. Woody decided this is what he wants and unless the managers go on some kind of strike saying I will not coach if he comes, they have little say.

I don’t even know what this means.
Build his conditioning but he’s a crock and past it? Does nothing for a year? Now it’s 200k a week? Keeps going up. And he’s going on the bench in 2022. That’s amazing foresight.

Ole needs experienced head in the front line with AM, MR and MG and we got Ighalo first. But now, being in CL this year means we need higher quality experience and that should be the reason we brought him in.

Martial, Rashford and Greenwood with their abilities need striker who got CL experience in abundance. He needs time to get back to match fitness but once he does, he should be a good option for Ole.

Decision made, support the guy. He's a fighter and plays with his all every time. Fingers crossed.

We need someone on the bench I agree and if Cavani is the only one we can get, fine. I just don't agree that this is a good signing. It's a panic buy and nothing else.

Not sure how reliable he is, remember reading he is good.

How do you know he isn’t one of Ole’s targets?

I wouldn't take Tabarez' words so literally. He has done exactly that with Suarez for a few years now. He knows the player far better than any of our resident experts and knows exactly the sort of response it will get: a good one.

BTW, Pellistri has been refusing to train for a few days now. Supposedly going to France but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a combo and part of the rationale is helping the kid settle. Don't expect that from Woody but definitely do from Ole.

His fitness record is poor, too many injuries last season. When fit he will be a good option from the bench, always loves his playing style. Works hard and has unreal off the ball movement, which helps him to get many goal scoring opportunities.

All this means nothing if he gets injured like last season.

So what’s the final wage structure? Cause 10m+ for two years seems ridiculous. Just seems desperate all over again. Every fecking summer.

i'm sorry it's so cryptic for you.

He's so unfit as he joins MUFC that even his national coach cannot take him to a qualifier. As he joins MUFC it is reported that his agent will get 10m in fees and wages of around 200k per week. As Cavani is so unfit, we are going to have to spend months or god knows how long conditioning him. Just as he gets fit enough to play, having no impact on our club in the immediate future, he'll likely be fit enough to get a bench spot for Uruguay at some point.

10 million was the agent fee. The rumour is around 200k per week for Cavani personal terms.

If Cavani was a target and a free agent, then it makes sense we would have moved in earlier and sealed the deal. We wouldn't let him be available for so long in the window and go for him on the last day.

Now if your argument is "no one knows for real", then that's pointless. Almost all posts are made on certain assumptions and rumours and stuff we read on news. No one really knows any "reality" about pretty much anything here.
