Well if we’re getting him, may as well support him. He’s done no wrong yet. Let’s hope he’s a positive influence on us like Zlatan was.

£8m in wages for 1 year, plus £8m in agent fees.

It's the equivalent of paying £2m in wages (or £40k per week) plus £14m in transfer fees: about what you'd spend for a mediocre player from the Championship or Portugal or the Eredivisie.

It's a cheap punt that will be worth it if he scores a handful of goals whilst giving Martial a break every now and then.

There's no downside to this. He's coming to give Ole 4 options from which to pick a front 3. Next season, we'll buy Sancho to give us the fourth option instead. In the meantime, Cavani will be here simply to keep his seat warm.

The price makes it more than worth it. The whole package is costly roughly what it would cost to pay Sancho £300k per week for one year alone.
Feck off with your logic and costs put into context. Grab a pitch fork you boring cnut.

I think this is not the worst signing. Lots of top level experience, a quality striker, difficult to play against and different than what we have. Assuming he is fit, I quite fancy the ability to bring him on with 20 mins to go against some defenses we are struggling to unlock. Could give the younger players some confidence. Is he coming in so we can let Ighalo go in Jan or until we sign Sancho later? Is this a pattern of short-term additions to supplement the regular squad as needed? Can't tell from anything United tells us on transfer strategy but I'd give this one a shot. The terms are nothing I can control or speak sensibly about but nobody plays for free. If he's past it, we'll soon find out. Else we might just enjoy a golden goal or two as he ends his career....winner at Anfield anyone?

Cavani's Uruguayan coach. Reddit translations from interviews on 1st October and 2nd October:

"Edinson will not be called. He is in a low moment in terms of condition, in terms of fitness. When you consider the physical problems that have been a plague on his last years, and no competitive training or matches for many months, it will be a long time to rebuild. Of course he will never be the dominant, strong, fast player he was even with 30 or 31 years - but he can get to a better moment than he is now if he can rest without any more of the physical injuries that have taken so much"

"You have to remember that it is not just injuries or lack of competitive games, but this pandemic has interrupted his training regimen. He has not trained seriously for a long time. To compete, it is even longer. Of course, Cavani will be with us in 2022 in Qatar. He is an extremely major player and that has a big impact on my mind."

Atletico link was never serious. See how swiftly they moved for Luis Suarez?! Cavani has been available since June 30th. PSG didn't bother to ask him for few more months and use him in CL.
Suarez is a better player than Cavani. Of course they swiftly moved for him. He's going to be a starter for them. Doubt Cavani would be for either us or them.

He can be our Giroud, will offer something different to Martial. This is a smart move imo

Sancho is obviously not happening. At least we are getting some experience and goal potential.

While we need a backup 9, we obviously need a creative wing forward much more.

This shouldn't excuse a poor window from Woody again if we fail to sign Sancho.

I'll wait until I see him play a few games to decide if this is worth it.
Same. I'm cautiously happy with this signing (given my background I like South American players at the club, despite Di Maria and Sanchez) but this signing doesn't excite me like Sancho would.

They know its not mate. They are trying to put a brave face on.

Cavani been touted all over Europe and nobody took him. There's a reason.

While I agree with you in principle, there can be a positive reason as well.

Atletico, Benfica and apparently Juventus as well all wanted him.

No one wanted to pay the agent fees. Maybe this late in the window, there is a compromise on that.

This is our Giroud signing. Hes going to cost something like 9m euros more than Minamino, how are people upset with this?

People are upset since they think Woody will spin this as an excellent signing, while ignoring that he failed on all 3 positions Ole really wanted - right wing, centre back and fullback.

Well this sounds promising.

Had this deal been announced alongside Sancho and Telles, the entire fan base would be whooping high fives about Woody adding depth to the squad and happy he had backed Ole. Our lack of activity in key ares of weakness is unfortunately souring every aspect of this deal.

What the feck are we actually doing? The more I think about this signing, the more frustrated I become. Why wasn’t he signed before the season started if Ole wanted another striker? Where’s the planning in all this? Desperate almost-deadline day signing.

Wow this is terrible if true.

Obviously it's panic buy. Cavani condition is bad just look at the post with quote from Uruguayan coach about his decision to exclude Cavani.

He definitely needs conditioning. Cavani's available since January if we're really planning to get him for this season.

Questionable character.

Just read the first two pages of this thread. Honestly, the business of transfers bring the absolute worst out of fans.

By those numbers the better comparison of cost is the whole package is roughly the same as Ighalo. So it’s an old former world class striker for the same price as an old bottom table player.

Funniest part is Cavani is apparently a terrible signing while Ighalo is somehow amazing because he likes the club or some shit.

But we were reportedly interested in a striker as well. We potentially might have a FB coming in Telles and we'll see on the winger. I think the CB has been sacrificed with Mengi being promoted and Bailly given another go.

556 games
341 goals

I can't believe people are complaining so much about signing him for a year or two as a back up striker replacing Ighalo...

Sounds like he'll need a full 4 weeks intense and painful fitness programme before he'll be able to play.
How can Ole OK this, if this is genuinely true?

Good luck being able to rest in this seasons schedule. And he's not even close to fit too, so you expect he's going to need at least a month... I mean what are we doing?

If he was fit, it would be okay as we need all the bodies we can get, but we might as well write him off already after reading that.

WE WANT SANCHO AND WE WANT HIM NOW! Or something like that, anything other than spending £120m on a single player is clearly a failure and the end of the club. united fans acting like spoilt children after getting used to winning for so long, what a shock.

yeah we’re in a deep ol rut at the moment but we couldn’t be top Dogs forever, our time will come again. Hopefully some experience of Cavani, sharing some of the burden with our other forwards and giving them the chance for a rest now and again can only be seen as a good thing.

I dread the abuse he’s going to get after a slow first few games due to fitness, Pogba receives the abuse for a few slow games even though he’s one of our top players and just got through coronavirus. It’s a micro analysed game these days and a lot of fans know more than the manager, CEO and players all in one

Those quotes from the Uruguayan International coach are not good in any shape or form.
This has bad deal written all over it.

Not the worst situation really as Ighalo is still here for a while.
Good point.
Am Ok with him as a back up, could be inspired. But we have to get Telles and Sancho as well for it to be a complete package of depth upgrades

Now I won't deny that he was clearly way down our list of choices. Just saw the quote, I'll wait to see him here before passing judgement.

For sure he will, but hes never had an inch of fat on him in his life, he'll get there quick IMO.

Interesting signing.

Cavani is class striker imo. Will be interesting whether he's a Zlatan or Falcao for you.

Would say though he would'v been a better pick up 6-12 months ago. Back then you were struggling to score more than a goal a game in the league and Martial and Rashford were both struggling with injury and Greenwood was just a promising young prospect. Now all three are in much better place.

I'd say bigger problems for Man. United currently are number one keeper, letting in cheap goals and sorting the midfield structure out than getting a new striker in as those have all become problems again from back end of last season.
