How come we didn't hear anything from the press conference about Cavani's injury. Please be fake news.

Out of the Manc Derby apparently. According to a reliable Uruguay journalist. Makes sense why he's not in the Uruguay squad for crucial games.

Unfortunately he's a massive sicknote isn't he? Like watching Saving Private Ryan.. Plays one game and gets an injury no manager can trust and rely on a player who is that injury prone with that injury record there was a reason PSG let him go and now we know why.. thank god we have Ronaldo otherwise I dread to think where we would be this season..

it's a shame we won't see CR7 and Cavani upfront much together this season.. that partnership had potential too.

so it's Rashy Boy upfront taking his place. Or go to a back 4.

Im surprised you’re the first to say it. If Pogba showed even half as much leadership and work rate as Cavani he’d have been a massive hit here. Cavani just gets on with it. Top pro.
Pogba has been miles and I mean miles better than Cavani. He’s done absolutely nothing in comparison. Scored two vs Southampton though….nice one. Had a good training session last week.

Cavani was near useless the first half of last season. The second half of last season Pogba was head and shoulders our best player….Cavani had a good April though.

Come back to me when Cavani has won a derby, or a game away to Chelsea or at home to Chelsea or been player of the tournament in a trophy we have won or has done fecking anything more than scored in a handful of meaningless league games we drew or EL games when we didn’t win the trophy.

To date Cavani has done nothing to be compared to Pogba or Rashford or even Martial etc except that for some reason fans seem to love him.

But I’m open for you telling me actual tangible things that he’s done, achieved…..that the team has achieved thanks to him in his time.

Because I’m looking at the stats and there ain’t shit, I’m looking at his stats and there ain’t shit there either. But feel free to enlighten me. Ronaldo is showing him up.

The guys a joke

This is how literally everybody else feels about your posts in the paul pogba thread
How is saying he has been one of our best players since January relational to Bryan Robson? He has its fact. How is saying he’s been one of our best players since his return relational to Robson? I’m not claiming he’s an inspiration to anyone or that he’s some sort of exemplary human ala Robson? My posts are purely relational to Pogba’s performances…..whereas your irrational dislike is not.

Cavani in relation to Pogba has done absolutely nothing in a United shit bar score two goals vs Southampton

Your crusade against Cavani is one of the more baffling things I’ve seen on these pages; unsettling even…
I’m open to you telling me why I should laud him…I’d just like tangible things. What has he done that I should think him more than…he’s been ok?

In addition he wasn’t fit at the start of last season and unlike other players who weren’t fit , didn’t play. Wanted to leave after a year. Agreed to stay but came back late with no pre season then wanted to go away with Uruguay and miss most of the start of this season. Played a handful of games and is once again unfit despite no obvious injury in his last game.

It's not even about lauding him - you've posted repeatedly in this thread, having a go at one of the few players on this team to actually show the requisite desire and passion, not to mention skill, that a fair number of others have not displayed. Again, it's weird and troubling.

He should be thread banned imo. If this is not blatant wumming then what is ?

Well the poster is entitled to their opinion, but I really don't get it. I don't think Cavani has been RVP v.2.0, but of the many offenders who have contributed to the shitshow that is Manchester United, Cavani is not one of them (unlike say Paul Pogba.)

How can one not like Cavani! Leaves it all on the pitch, proper terrier and his movement is mind boggling at times. Great addition to the club, the squad and only wish we had seen him in United colours much earlier and for longer.

And yet it is very telling to see he is more appreciated than Pogba on the caf.

102 mins per goals + assist overall for ManUtd,

112 mins per G+A in PL and a work rate that puts every ManUtd attacker to shame.

Exactly. Breaks the chilled out mould with the rest of our attackers and Pogba over the last few years. Leads the team by example, puts himself everywhere and fires people up around him. He’s a classy player but with massive balls to back it up. His pressing helps likes of Bruno Fred McT etc and his presence makes space for our other attackers. It’s one more step in the right direction if you’re going to battle to win games which is essential in the PL. It’s going to suck when he leaves because I reckon we’ll sign another jogger in his place.

I can't understand how anyone can not love him, the player who is quality and works so hard.

Without context those figures look reasonably good however Cavani has spent more than half his time as an impact sub, playing around 30 mins when the game is either stretched or we need a goal. That should obviously work in his favour in terms of minutes per goal. A striker who plays 90 minutes every week, you would expect to score more goals, but their minutes to goal would be higher.

In terms of workrate it’s the managers job to put a system in place where the players know their role in and out of possession. I’ve no problem with Cavani in terms of this but on the other side, our forwards are not tasked with pressing and we saw the issues that arise when players take it upon themselves to press in the Liverpool game. I’d love to see our forwards press like Liverpool but it takes coaching for that to work. I don’t blame the players at all, we are a team that tends to drop in and keep shape. But then I’ve never loved any player for workrate alone. Was never a massive fan of Park for example. He was good but he wasn’t great. Keane on the other hand…or Robbo. Warriors, workers but exceptional players also.

This is much better context than coming up with "he scored 10 goals in 50 games"

You’d have had a problem with Ole the player you.

Surely the fact that he’s making an impact as a sub and despite being something of a super star, he makes zero fuss about being benched, even when it’s unfair (finishing the season as our best player, convinced to sign a new contract when his family was against it, then losing his spot to Ronaldo) is something to be appreciated? He just comes on, works his ass off and contributes.

1: I don't dislike him. I don't think he has been good enough, and should have done better, there is a difference.
2: most people are naturally drawn to a player who busts a gut for the cause as opposed to one who doesn't, or does occasionally.

You are correct it is. Still highlights the fact that Ronaldo plays 90 minutes every week and has a much lower minutes per goal ratio.

Listen I’m fine with all of this, I’m just nothing more than fine with it.

I loved Ole the player and I loved Chicharito also but as it stands currently I don’t personally feel that Cavani has had a massive impact on games for us. I think he’s been fine, nothing more.

Hopefully I’ve written FINE enough that people read what I’m saying rather than create a myth that I hate him. I’m just not getting what everyone else is seeing in terms of the love for him.

I agree on the end of last season, since you checked up on me feel free to check my comments on Cavani from last season. The end of the season I thought he played very well and the EL final he didn’t deserve to be on the losing team.

Not sure how Ronaldo is relevant here. Ronaldo is among top 5 players to play the game.

I think you’ve answered this yourself already but I’d suggest on point one…..Pogba has been better than Cavani. The perception of point two is what makes the difference for a lot of people…which I get but it’s not the case for me.

Because in comparison Ronaldo has had the kind of impact that should be revered while with Cavani I just can’t think of many games that he’s been the difference in. Also someone said Cavani is an all time great so therefore the comparison should stand.

“I’m fine, it’s all fine”.

Meanwhile the top poster in the Cavani thread is the guy who’s fine with him, complaining in every single one of those posts about him and has already called him “a joke” this morning

It’s fiiiiiiiine!

You are clutching straws now.

What so no other players in our squad have ever been called a joke for constantly being injured?
Some of our players have come back from international tournaments early with no pre seasons and put their bodies on the line for the start of seasons and get slated for commitment or performances (Pogba/Maguire) never mind taking extended leave.
Some would get slated if they wanted to put their international career above United. Some players would have their commitment questioned if they were uncertain about signing another contract.

To be clear I’m not fine with most of this but it isn’t relational to my confusion with the love for Cavani which is purely a result of my appraisal of his performances and impact to date.

Compared to expectations, he hasn't. Cavani has exceeded what was expected of him. Pogba has disappointed.

Ole said clearly for two years, he wanted a fluid front three that could interchange positions (hence Martial, Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, buying Amad, retaining Lingard etc.) We bought a 34 year old injury prone striker as a much needed plan B. He was not bought as a starter...he was not bought to play a part in every game even. He was not bought to become a Utd legend. He was a vastly experienced and by all accounts excellent professional that could bring something to such a relatively young front line.

Everyone at the club has Reported glowingly on the fact that he has done exactly what was expected of him and more. Considering the limited role we envisaged him playing when he was bought, I would say he has far exceeded expectations and it’s a credit to him for being driven enough to do that a) at this point in his career and b) in what is a very bad time to play for Manchester United.

If more in the squad conducted themselves like Cavani and Ronny...we wouldn’t be in such a mess. So I would say he has done more than just fine but each to their own.

I mean based on performance and achievement. On Cavani then I’m not sure what the expectation was. Can’t have been too high.
