"The event that shaped our world"? Was Dunkirk even that consequential in the end?

Not really. It was pretty much a case of lets all regroup and try again a few years later.
Nah. If the Soviets were making that much progress, we would've went straight into France instead of chipping away at North Africa and Italy. If Dunkirk hadn't worked out, to the degree that it did, the regrouping would probably have taken years longer.
The Germans still wouldn't have won the war, though. More likely the Soviets would liberate/conquer a larger part of Central and maybe even Western Europe.
I'll admit that the trailers have left me feeling a little dry, but I'm not sure if that's just because I'm completely missing the tone of the film. I was the same with Interstellar until about 15 minutes in when it all started to come together.Fair.
It's just I usually love Nolan films, so feeling left out.

A post of two halves.Nolan makes some of the best films around. But it seems that the cool thing to do is to hate everything he makes.
On the other hand Quentin Tarantino is hailed as a genius with his over the top bullshit. Baffling.

Two weeks left for this! Can't wait. Always buzzing for a Nolan picture!
Fascinated by WWII. This is also the first Nolan film to be based on a true event. The Prestige, Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception and Interstellar are all fictional. His earlier work - Memento, Following, Insomnia - were where he didn't have the big budgets at his disposal so he did stories on smaller scale. He's very strong with those sorts of scripts. I loved The Prestige, which which was his last smaller project. Would be nice if he made a film like that again.
I'm tempted to go up to London and see on the big IMAX there but don't know if I can stand having to endure this shite on full blast, for 2 plus hours.Definitely one to watch in IMAX
The Prestige is hardly small though. The cast were all A-lister.
You're kidding? That's nuts. Two weeks left for this! Can't wait. Always buzzing for a Nolan picture!

Heard it has the Oscar for best film in the bag already, while the Oscars are still more than half a year away.Seems to be getting 5 stars from everyone.

It's not 3D. But Imax/70 mm will be worth it.Reviews are off the scale. Though I wont be lectured into watching it on a '3D IMAX' thats 20 miles away and costs £25 a ticket, local independent cinema it is for me
Might explain user scores but surely not the metacritic scores?I was thinking the IMDb score must be because of one d teens bigging it up?
Harry Styles, jesus christ.....

Yeah I wasn't all that interested in seeing it until I saw the reviews. Saving Private Ryan perfected the WW2 movie for me and then things like Pearl Harbour took the good out of it. So I didn't bother with Hacksaw Ridge, Letters From Iwa Jimo when they came out even though they got great reviews. That's why I'm thinking otherwise now. It's almost like it seems too high to be legit. I think it's gonna be good either way though
This reads as "anyone that disagrees with MY opinion is wrong!". A touch of hypocrisy in your post, as well as a clear contradiction. Nonetheless, Tarantino is a genius, Nolan is good. Both deserve credit for producing some very good films.Nolan makes some of the best films around. But it seems that the cool thing to do is to hate everything he makes.

More like was a genius. He hasn't been able too reinvent himself that much. His two best movies are the first 2 movies he made. This reads as "anyone that disagrees with MY opinion is wrong!".
