Dries Mertens

He's been performing pretty well at Napoli but he's 29, pretty short and NOT Messi. I wouldn't want him even for a squad player, I would rather give our academy youngsters a chance like Periera and Angel Gomes.

Neither of which play as a striker.

Brilliant little player, would be a great signing if it happens. He will add some much needed clinical finishing to the squad. Mertens has some odd similarity to Hazard in the way he plays but he is more of a finisher while Hazard is more creative.

With all the rumors about Ibrahimović leaving, I wouldn't say no to this guy for £20-25m. Chump change in todays market.

good player. Not enough for Utd. Similar to Griezmann, but:

Griezmann
.
.
.
.
Mertens

That first one was Scholes-esque. Reminded me of that chip he scored against Panathinaikos.

If Ibra leaves, then a similar type of player would surely be bought? But I honestly think Ibra will stay if he doesn't suddenly drop in quality this remaining period.

Contract negotiations, which have been going on for over a year now, have apparently stalled completely according to some Belgian press. He dreams of a move to the Premier League, and has recently split with his wife who absolutely loved Naples and seemingly never wanted to leave the place.

Will be an interesting summer.

If any of the other top 6 get him I can't wait for the 'why didn't we sign him' posts a few weeks into the season when he's racking up goals and assists.

Maybe he would be the correct player to go for if Ibra does indeed go this summer. He's 29 turning 30 this summer, 2-3 seasons from him wouldn't be a bad thing, as it'd allow Rashford to develop and possibly take over.

With the daft prices thrown around for top drawer attacking players, if Jose thinks Mertens will improve us then I doubt his age will put him off. He's a great player and available for a cut down price. Mkhitaryan isn't exactly young either.

He wouldn't improve us. Has a freak season tbf, will be hard for him to reproduce it next year.

And he's definitely not a striker, although playing there from time to time.

He fecking would improve us, ridiculous to say otherwise. Whether we should spunk our wad on him is another matter.

Mertens is a good player . Griezmann is the same type of player, but stronger (yes, mertens is cheaper). Hazard too.

Mertens is the perfect player to join a match in progress

As I said, he's having a once in a lifetime season. Last couple of seasons he's been warming the bench. He couldn't break into the Belgian NT either. I hope he can replicate his form, but I'm pretty sure he can't.

Not so sure, I mean yes he has done things this year he has not done before, but I see it more as him showing what he always had consistently rather than some kind of one off. We will see. I am not saying we should sign him.

If he comes cheap, why not? He may or may not be in first 11 but if it means upgrading the quality of the squad and better options from the bench than the likes of Young or Lingard, why not?

He's channelled his inner Messi this season. He was always a respectable/decent player, but this level of form surely isn't one he'll sustain. I'd much rather get Carrasco if we are after a Belgian attacker.

Mertens has been great this season but like you I think he will drop back to his 'normal' level rather sooner than later. Carrasco would be great - I have wanted him here since two years. He could add so much to our attacking game.

However, if I would have to choose ONE Belgian attacker this season I would go all out for Lukaku.

Mertens is a better player than Carrasco.

But yeah Lukaku would score shitloads for United for years.

Mourinho seemed to have a liking for Adam Ounas last summer. Ousmane Dembele would be my choice if Greizmann decides to stay put. Neymar hasn't set the world alight at Barca but unlikely they will sell him in the summer. I'd be all on for Mertens if Jose wnats Rashford and Martial for the win but wants to bring in an older head until they develop a little more and if Greizmann says no.

Pedro type signing except probably better overall. We should be all over it.
