Yeah, I'm not saying it being our starting XI against Liverpool, but I think we'd be able to keep possession well enough and be creative with those 3.

It would be more attacking than City's midfield. Even they play Rodri or Fernandinho as the DM.

I don't think it would work tbh. Wed still need to play a DM more games than not. The PL isn't a mickey mouse league. Even the smaller clubs can outplay us in midfield if the balance isn't right.

Still love to get him though. He's a very good player.

Him and Sancho would make a pretty decent summer.

Not holding my breath though.

He'd be a good back up to Fernandes and could play the box to box role alongside Pogba. I think as a squad player he'd be a good replacement for Pereira and Lingard.

100% - but I feel he has more aspirations than that. I know PL/United a step up from Everdisie/Ajax but I still don’t think he’ll be happy to be a squad player.

Perhaps but it doesn't seem like the Spanish clubs really want him (unless Koeman now does)

I can't see any other English clubs offering him a starting spot at present, so not sure where else he would go. He doesn't get paid anywhere near as much at Ajax either.

It's no small task to find a player who's good enough to be a regular starter for us but is slotted to be a squad man.

Yeah people here are terrified of having an attacking team. It's considered naive and unsophisticated.

Rashford-Martial-Greenwood
----------------Bruno-------------------
--------Pogba---VanDeBeek-----
Shaw--LCB---Maguire--WanBissaka
---------------De Gea-----------------

looks pretty good to me, though the bench is weak outside of James as a winger, the Fred/McTominay/Matic group in midfield and keeper, though Lindelof/Bailly/Tuanzebe is probably good for CBs 3-5. Definitely need a fullback and probably another forward/winger type but that's hardly a crazy summer:

1. Fancy LCB purchase
2. Van De Beek or another CM or even a quality DM type
3. Left-footed wide player (Williams is right-footed odds are over 95% he'll end up at RB) like a Dwight McNeil or Robert Skov type who can be a real threat at LWB when we go 3 at the back and be the other wing backup opposite Daniel James.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't VdB player more in the Bruno position than Matic?

The Eredivisie may be of a lower standard than the PL but their top players can be as good as in any league. Especially, technical ability.

There were reports if our interest a few months ago, but radio silence since then. I guess he was a target but the loss of revenue means he isn't anymore. With Koeman now in the Barca hotseat I guess he's going there.

Waited too long now Barca are in the mix

Surely if Barcelona were on the verge of signing someone the Spanish papers would be all over it? Koeman won’t even be there next season and he’ll be seen as his signing so I think it’d be a seriously bad move for him personally.

Barca need a huge rebuild, the main reason I think he'd move to Barca is because of De Jong and of course Koeman.

United don't really have fellow dutch players, but Daley Blind being at Ajax and Van Der Sar obviously can put in a good word.

I like the prospect of VDB but if his head isn't on going to United then I'm unsure if I do want him at the club, I want players who want to play for the shirt like Bruno came and wanted to play.

Players who are hungry to perform, Rashford and Greenwood coming through the ranks, Pogba coming through (albeit a long time ago), Bruno wanted to Sign for United, those are the players you get a performance out of, because they want to play for the shirt, that's why a Grealish good because he's a United fan.

As good as he is I'd rather prioritise a player like Thiago is he was available or Grealish.

If VDB wants to go to United though and it's his first choice sure, I'm unsure what Barca can offer him right now given the massive rebuild job, he's basically giving his career away there to wait for the team to be formed again which could take a good 4 years considering how many of their squad are 33 years old currently.

The reporter is Mike Verweij who is quite simply the most reliable source for all things Ajax.
Good to know. Has he indicated which is the more likely?

Sport have sources at Barcelona, I guess, who could be negotiating with Ajax and van de Beek's agent, who could be telling Barcelona that they have a better offer from Man Utd. In other words, this could all just be Man Utd being used to improve someone's salary or transfer price again.

The source isnt Sport

I would think we still have a chance but dilly dallying doesn't help us..

We always do and lose out on players as a consequence. I don't know why we think it is a benefit to prolong transfers.

He'll get to team up with De Jong again, should work out well.

Don't see us being in for him, we have a bunch of midfielders on contract.
