Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

Chelsea are a beast club among the big ones when it comes to selling their players. It is mind boggling when you realise that Havertz + Hazard were sold for nearly £200m. I remember them selling David Luiz, the defender who couldn't defend, to PSG for what was a world record fee back then.

I haven’t seen any of the Chelsea journos talk about this yet. All of this is just noise until Matt Law or Ornstein confirm the two clubs are talking. I won’t get my hopes up until then.

Chelsea will be dancing with joy if this goes through. Such a nothing player.

Let's see how he does in Madrid. He's clearly not a nothing player

I will be dancing with joy but only because I had felt for a long time now that Havertz had no interest in renewing his contract if we tried to extend and that he would have left for free to Bayern in 2025 or for a cut price in 2024. The fact that Real Madrid are potentially allowing us to recoup almost every single penny we paid for him is beautiful.

How the hell do they raise this much money from sales?

How Chelsea consistently manages to sell junk players for exorbitant rates is beyond me. Kudos to them.

How?!

I simply do not understand how Chelsea and other clubs are able to command top dollar for their flops, whilst we will struggle to shift Maguire for £30 million.
Theres a reason why the term economic maguire was invented.

But didn't they buy him for about 85 million euro? 60 million is not a whole lot to recoup

Its a good deal considering how much we will recoup on Maguire and Sancho. Chelsea buy a lot of junk players, but also seem capable of selling them at not a huge loss.

60m for Havertz, 60m for Mount. Bloody hell, Chelsea do get good fees for their players.

I was actually looking forward to this. I believed there is a good player inside him

The fee for Havertz was €80M flat. If we can now recoup 75% of that immediately and the deal also includes some add-ons for potential extra money down the line, I would say we've recouped plenty enough.

But yeah as @WeePat said now is the right time to sell him. Considering his lacking performances over the last three years overall I'm sure neither Havertz nor the club would have any interest in a contract extension at this time and at least now his value is still somewhat high.

There's very little for the club to gain by keeping him if there's concrete interest from another club to make the move now. If he stays under the current contract for the next year, either he has another mediocre campaign which would see his value plummet by tens of millions with just a year left on the deal, or he finally starts playing up to the expectations and clubs like Real Madrid and Bayern start whispering in his ear and it's a very real possibility we'd have to sell him for the same 50-60M in 2024 anyway.

Can't say I'm going to miss him if he does go. I do think there's a decent chance he might raise his game playing for another club in another country but over the last three seasons it's become clear he's not going to reach that level playing for us so might as well cut our losses and be done with him.

United got good deals for Lukaku, AdM, and Dan James. For Havertz and Mount, these are young players who have their uses but aren't totally duds or old players.

Cant wait for him to play in a team and under a manager that knows how to use him again.

Is it certain that Don Carlo is that man?

He's played for Lampard, Tuchel and Potter the last 3 years. Only Lampard 1.0 used him as an 8/attacking midfielder. Tuchel, Potter and Lampard 2.0 all used him as a striker/false 9. Pretty sure Low and Flick used him as a striker/false 9 for Germany too.

Atleast Löw and Flick had better players behind a striker than he is. I guess the same happens at Chelsea, too. And out of all of this offensive midfielders he probably is the best to use as a 9.

I don't understand who's place he'll take over there. Asensio or Benzema? Unless they are changing everything up now that Bellingham might come into the equation.

Chelsea demands £75M. Real Madrid are supposedly happy to pay up to £70M.

He's a good player but he hasn't worked at Chelsea as he's being asked to play a role and system that don't suit him and like a lot of players that look good in BL he is a system player, can't see that fit's for Madrid either though replacing Benzema but let's see.

Such a bizarre move here from Real Madrid. Willing to pay £70m for a garbage player like Havertz, excellent from Chelsea’s point of view though. Mad they’re even trying to negotiate a higher price, they should be snapping Madrid’s hand off at £70m.

The report does state he’s being pursued by 3 clubs but I don’t know who the other two are supposed to be. Havertz supposedly only wants Real Madrid but there’s competition for him.

But yeah, if Real Madrid put £70M on the table, we should snap the hands off and run before they change their minds.

Romano now saying that Madrid are out of the running. Someone offering more money I suppose

Or they finally realised what a shit transfer this would be and called it off.

It doesn't really make sense to me either but that could be wishful thinking (not wanting Chelsea to land a big fee...). It makes more sense as an alternative to Kane to try to create some leverage in that negotiation.

They are targeting Kane to replace Benzema.

They will reportedly be bringing back Brahim Diaz who can replace Asensio.

With Bellingham in the midfield mix, Valverde will also probably play more RW, further replacing Asensio.

They have beens strongly linked to Joselu as a backup striker to take whatever minimal garbage minutes Mariano and Hazard got last year.

More broadly, they are going after both Bellingham and Kane, which is >200m in transfer fees and two huge contracts, plus getting ready for Mbappe next summer which will be mega expensive even without a transfer fee. Real Madrid have been very smart financially the last five years, spunking 70m on Havertz just to be a misfit squad player doesn't really scan.
