Donald Trump - GUILTY!

The two trials won’t be on the same level of impact. Trump simply doesn’t have that much cache outside his dwindling base.

Granted, OJ trial was far more compelling given the subject matter. But Trump is the former President. The first time in history that a President will face a criminal trial.

He is at 65%+ in the GOP primary polls. Regardless of all of his issues, they are sticking with him.

United getting sold or Trump behind bars wonder what’ll happen first

And that 65% alone can't win him the election.

And that 65% alone can't win him the election.

You said he doesn't have "cache". He does. He will be the GOP candidate. He will continue to spin the indictments as politically motivated.

I think he could win another election because Biden is seen as inept.

You put the two up on a debate stage and Trump wipes the floor with Biden. He looks about 15 years younger. When people see the contrast, it will hit home.

He's lost the suburbs of the major cities in swing states. He's lost the independent vote. He has no cache outside the willfully ignorant base.

Trump certainly didn't wipe the floor with Biden in 2020. And he certainly doesn't appear 15 years younger.

He's going to win his primary, but it would be a long slog of epic proportions if he was to win the general. The exhausted bipartisan majority simply has had enough of him.

65% of the GOP isn't enough to win a general election, the election is won by getting Independents to vote for you, especially women, a lot of women will not vote for Trump, or any other GOP candidate because of their stance on abortion rights, all Biden needs to do is basically keep quiet and not make a major gaffe

Trump keeps digging a hole for himself. Which is great. I don't think any black people will vote for him after this.

Don't write him off.

Democrats mobilized in 2020 to oust Trump. I can see some voter apathy this time round, especially as Biden is not someone who excites voters.

He will wipe the floor with Biden this time round. Biden seems to have aged a lot in the last few years. He is not nearly as coherent and

Trump is relentless - look what he did to Kaitlan Collins in that town hall a few months ago. He walked all over her. He will do the same to Biden and acuse him of indicting him. He will bring up the Hunter Biden stuff, which wasn't mentioned much last time round. He has zero qualms about not telling the truth on a debate stage. There is little point in fact checking him because it is water off a ducks back.

The gloves will be off and voters have heard all the indictment stuff before. The Hunter Biden stuff is selacious and it will get people triggered.

Don't count it out. A long way to go and many things could happen. RJK Jr seems to be getting some traction. He could run as a third party candidate and take some votes from Biden.

Can we trust Biden, or a member of his family, not to put their foot it in?

RFK is not going to be a factor. The only ones voting for him are crazies who, probably, wouldn't vote mainstream Dem anyway.

I'm pretty sure Trump pushed the Hunter Biden story in every debate in 2020. Didn't work back then.

It was all right wing bs then.
Now people know about the "soft" plea deal that fell through and the appointment of a special council.
Oh, and there was coke in the White House, which Trump will say was Hunters! He may even accuse Biden of sniffing it to keep him from sleeping on the job.

And the right is up in arms because of the SC appointment.

Coke in the WH? You’ve got to be kidding.

You seem swayed by sensationalist reporting.

There are a lot of headwinds against Trump this time. As mentioned the abortion issue and GOP hardline views on it have been proven to cost them now in the midterms and special elections and ballot initiatives since. Even in Red states. You have had some of the candidates still talking about their federal ban proposals even in this upcoming debate.

It's stupid it isn't a winner for them. Voting against Trump alone is an incentive for people. We have seen it every time his name is on the ballot since 2016. Add to that the indictments and his campaign funds going to all these legal fees he will be handicapped. That isn't to say he should be written off or Dems should be complacent.

Another point against him is even the right wing outlets will be more wary on letting all the crazies come on and spout the worst of the conspiracy theories as they have seen the lawsuits and hundreds of millions settlements , Dominion, some are still pending btw. They will still have nutters on but the worst of them will be limited or at least challenged a bit more so they dont keep getting sued.

Then more specifically you have the Georgia indictments. He needs Georgia to win. Obviously didn't win it last time and that was BEFORE spending years spinning lies about fraud and targeting innocent poll workers there. And if you are still attacking the GOP in Georgia for not helping you change the vote the last time on top of the RICO charges good luck with that.

And the right is up in arms because of the SC appointment.

Coke in the WH? You’ve got to be kidding.

It is not me who is swayed. Im a NY Dem.

I just know how others see things, especially when subjected to right wing media. They cant comprehend what the real issues are, so latch on to the sensationalist reporting, as you say. And these non issues will be the ones that Trump will hammer Biden with on a debate stage. Biden will be too nice / incoherent to fire back. Trump will steamroll him.

95% of the GOP isn't enough either, as has already been pointed out, independents and especially suburban women need to support you if you want to win, and the majority of them wouldn't touch Trump with a bargepole

Of the current GOP primary candidates, only 2 of them could potentially beat Biden in a general, but neither of them will get anywhere close to winning a primary

It is unlikely he can build a coalition to win, but as i said before, i wouldn't write Trump off because he is up against a very weak incumbent.

64% of Americans Say They ‘Definitely’ Or ‘Probably’ Would NOT Support Trump For President in 2024: AP Poll

The poll asked the same questions for President Joe Biden and found a slightly better result for the incumbent, but not by much. Fifty-four percent of respondents said they would not support Biden, with 43% saying “they would definitely not support him in a general election, with another 11% saying they probably wouldn’t.” While an improvement on Trump’s total 64% percent of Americans not wanting to support him, Biden’s 54% shows he remains vulnerable.

Trump supporters post names and addresses of Georgia grand jurors online

ATLANTA — The purported names and addresses of members of the grand jury that indicted Donald Trump and 18 of his co-defendants on state racketeering charges this week have been posted on a fringe website that often features violent rhetoric, NBC News has learned.
NBC News is choosing not to name the website featuring the addresses to avoid further spreading the information.
The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis faced racist threats ahead of the return of the indictment and additional security measures were put in place, with some employees being allowed to work from home.
The grand juror's purported addresses were spotted by Advance Democracy, Inc., a non-partisan research group founded by Daniel J. Jones, a former FBI investigator and staffer for the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
This is why the judges should use all their discretion to actually punish these veiled threats and slander Trump and the co conspirators are out here saying. They have the right to say they are innocent and did nothing wrong and being victimized. But, Trump has straight up mentioned all his prosecuters, their families, insinuated vendettas, and even fundraising off "being personally persecuted".

We saw this with January 6. We saw this with the poor poll workers who were harassed and threatened and had to live in fear. They will say they cant be blamed for what crazies do in their name. But, at this point we all know there are complete nutjobs willing to do anything and getting them all hyped up with more conspiracies and lies will cost lives at some point.

This is why I don't understand what the feck are judges waiting for until Trump and the rest of those feckers get thrown in jail pending trial. More damage will be done with each extra hour in which those people run free.

If I was leading any computer crimes division of law enforcement linked to the US government, I would also find a way to unleash destructive cyberattacks against Truth Social in order to cripple that dangerous tool for as long as it takes for trials to reach their conclusions.

Riggers.

Any coincidence that rhymes with an extremely incendiary word?

Yup, it was all covered in a very nice post from @frostbite that was only a couple of posts above yours. You must have missed it as you were replying to a few different posts at the same time.

I do see what you are saying @gaffs and I also share your worry and trepidation. I think the worst thing you can do is underestimate Trump and also second guess voters. Harsh lessons in recent elections have shown this. I also can't be 100% sure Trump will be convicted or even jailed, despite overwhelming evidence against him. He's shown time and time again he gets away with anything. Through manipulation, intimidation, lying or twisting he always manages to change the narrative and get away with everything. This isn't helped by the fact many of his base don't and won't ever see him as doing anything wrong and the rest not caring either way. They just want Trump because he speaks their language and has caused such a divide in the country that all the focus from the Republicans is just attacking the Dems.

Trump didn't keep many of his promises, was President during COVID and also spent all his time either golfing, rage Tweeting or on news channels or holding pointless rallies in very favourable Trump areas just so he could have his pathetically fragile ego stroked all the time.

He was an absolute embarrassment in any world leader meeting or when he visited China and the UK for example. He's clueless about foreign policy or world affairs, and just says what people want to hear. He hardly ever attended any daily briefings and he also completely avoided ever holding pressers where he could be asked questions.

He stopped keeping visitor record logs for the White House and had many visits from very questionable people, many behind closed doors. He always used unsecured technology despite constant warnings from the Secret Service. He promised much with healthcare and infrastructure and the border control and achieved nothing. He also made millions from the Secret Service having to constantly stay at his own hotels.

On top of all this he lied.continuosly and often contradicted himself. Like only hiring the best people yet nearly every single one left and then got slagged off by him. He divulged secrets to his hotel guests and also (and this is no exaggeration) caused an issue or scandal l every single day of his Presidency. Any other President would have been removed for even 1% of the shit Trump got up to. He adjusted hurricane forecasts with a sharpie because his initial prediction was wrong. He insulted grieving gold star widows and family members and also held back disaster relief for Puerto Rico because the islands Governor questioned his response and help and asked for more.

He made his family billions like Jared Kushner who got paid $2bn from Saudi Arabia and he also gave all his family cabinet positions that not one was qualified for.

Yet none of that matters to his cult and now it seems to many other Republicans too.

All of that would instantly disqualify anyone else from ever being elected again. Yet Biden who has actually done some good, is old and prone to serious gaffs and errors and even falls. He's also continually being blamed for things that were actually Trump's fault or doing, yet it's Twisted so badly now it's all on Biden. Even things out of his control too like gas prices, all because Trump always took credit for anything despite him having feck all to do with it. Jan 6th is a perfect example, it was all staged by Pelosi and they were all FBI actors ffs.

The worst part is the Dems haven't even put anyone or got anyone else that would beat Trump.

So yeah, I get the worry and also understand the uncertainty around voters for Biden, especially given his health and constant misspeaking and senior moments.

Don't count on it - mounds of dead kids can't get Americans to stop buying guns and bragging about committing sexual assault didn't stop women voting for him either. Adultery with a porn star wasn't enough to stop Christians from voting for him. When people like something however irrational it may be, nothing will get them to give it up in todays land of being so entrenched in a side that you'd rather die than cede ground to your opposition because it'd imply they were right about something.

Good post. Completely agree.

Trump himself said it best...
"I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters"

That seems to hold true.

As you eluded to, Trump plays by completely different rules. He can easily convince his supporters that his legal troubles are all a "witch hunt".

Very worried that come debate time, Biden will look very weak against Trump. As i mentioned in a previous post, he was "on form" when he did the town hall with Kaitlin Collins on CNN. He will made Biden look old and incoherent.

I know this. He, like any Dem, would need a good portion of independents.
It is unlikely he can build a coalition to win, but as i said before, i wouldn't write Trump off because he is up against a very weak incumbent.

De Santis and who?
Christie and Hutchinson - De Santis has little chance, against Biden Christie would be a very viable candidate

Exactly, but again, the worst part is he doesn't actually debate. He completely ignores questions and turns everything either in to a straight up attack or he just spouts his MAGA bulldhit and shouts over the opposition. He has absolutely zero policy ideas or plans, and any he does have are completely impractical and impossible to implement. He also has absolutely no undertaking of world affairs either.

Just look at the disastrous debates with Hilary. He spent most of the time following her round and standing over her menacingly and intimidating her. Anyone else would have lost, but he didn't.

I honestly worry that with Biden now he would just crucify him. A younger Joe would have relished the chance and ripped Trump apart with articulate retorts and strong policy ideas.. Joe seems to be struggling to even remember things and can't seem to go a day without saying something wrong or embarrassing or remembering things wrong or just getting mixed up. It's a total mismatch but on their Presidential records and accomplishments during their time in the White House it's not even close, Joe wins hands down. Sadly, I don't think that's going to be how it's going to go.
