Donald Trump - GUILTY!

The payment wasn't from campaign finances, he used his own money, but how it was done breached campaign finance laws as well as the business expenses ones, allegedly as it's not "proven" yet, hence the possible indictment - we all know he did it

But actually paying to keep something quiet isn't illegal in it's self
True, he could have just paid her, and as long as they both properly reported in on their taxes, this would never have gone anywhere.

I didn’t say it was. It is reprehensible though and not what you would want from a political leader?

1.5 MMUSD in less than a week. I know of a certain desperate failing social media app owner that is probably taking notes.

To be fair, he was pretty good in 8mm.

Michael Cohen just gone live on youtube with MeidasTouch for anyone interested. Nobody knows more about this case than the guy who has already done time for it.

Michael Cohen's problem is that he's as much of chucklehead as his former boss. Even though he's our enemy's enemy now, he's still a bit of douchebag.

Full on scumbag, which makes him entertaining to listen to, while he's on the right side of things.

Seems like a negotiation going on as to how prez will surrender- between DT and his lawyers, and with the NY authorities

With any luck, Bragg will delay this until after the more serious charges in the classified documents and GA election manipulation cases drop. That way no one can claim they went after Trump just because of a porn star hush money case.

Trump lawyers lost the appeal; now they provide notes, transcripts and other evidence relating to his keeping classified docs

If Trump doesn't win the nomination but isn't in jail, he could just as easily run as an independent because he thinks continuing to be a Presidential candidate will somehow shield him from continued prosecution. That would obviously be the end of Desantis and would mean an easy Biden victory.

Can't see this happening. He's going to win the nomination despite Murdoch and Fox trying to anoint DeSantis. If he didn't win the R nomination by some miracle, he'd just continue his grift outside politics. He has to be seen as a winner in his base's eyes and running as an independent would just guarantee his loss, even he knows that.

He'll never get done for anything
Democratic strategy is not to have him get done. Just keep him under pressure and the GOP defending him. That way the other more sensible (and electable) elephants don't grow, or grow more slowly. The calculation is that he is unelectable now, and in the long run, his high profile campaign massively damages the opposition. He is a wrecking ball; the trick is the swing back effect. Don't know how effective that idea is, but there were numerous examples of Democrats in the last set of elections actually working for Trumpist candidates knowing they would tank at the polls. 4D chess afoot.

Seems like a bad idea.

Democrats haven't done particularly well when Trump is actually on the ballot (2016, 2020), and done much better when he isn't (2018, 2022).

This is how I feel, personally. Think neutrals and swing voters are done with him. He'll rally the nut job base but that's not nearly enough to win.

Main issue is that Biden is so ...meh.

Biden is meh but he also has the incumbent advantage. He’s not going to win any Republican votes but conservative swing voters are still conservatives and therefore still hate change

Biden has done a fine job. I think he’s too old to be POTUS but the fact is that he has done very well.

TBH I think he's been average, age wise if he's too old then so is Trump

The Democrat problem is they don't really have anybody else, who can they put up that can win, I can't think of anybody that can do that at the moment

We assumed complete federal goverental control in 2020.

In the House of Representatives, Democrats lost seats relative to their 2018 performance. They did poorly compared to expectations, for example:

The competitive races across the country almost all broke for Republicans. Democrats lost every one of the 27 House races rated as toss-ups by the Cook Political Report. Thirteen House Democrats were defeated. Meanwhile, Republicans did not lose a single House incumbent. Democrats picked up just three House seats, all in open-seat races where they benefited from favorable redistricting. Out of 14 competitive Senate races, Democrats won 6. These outcomes were a big surprise, to say the least. Every well-known forecast had projected Democrats would expand their House majority by 10 to 12 seats. Instead, Democrats came perilously close to losing control of the House altogether.

In the Senate, they did not gain control until after the Georgia special election in January 5th, 2021. Ossoff got less votes than Perdue in the first round (48% to 49.7%), in which Trump was on the ballot.

Does that include approving the Willow Oil project and drilling on Alaska's North Slope?

He's done some good and reversed a bit that Trump did, but he's also done a lot of work for the Republicans and he's also been very sneaky in keeping a lot of what he's done quiet and not getting huge media attention when he's continuing Trump's policies or expanding them.

In truth unless America elects Bernie, there isn't really a great deal of difference between most Republican and Democratic candidates.

There wouldn't be much difference under Sanders as well, since he wouldn't get any meaningful legislation passed because Rs will obviously vote against him, as would a sizable chunk of Dems.
