Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Never rated this guy... would have taken Solanke before him
That's a bit of a hot take isn't it. I mean Solanke went for 60m and no one is interested in DCL as a starting striker.

I didn't say I wanted him, I said I'd have chosen him ahead of C-L, who I don't rate at all

amazing Spurs can afford that for a striker and we can't... he won't even be there first-choice striker (Son is ahead of him)
Spurs are a fairly well run club, Levy may be a huge cnut, but if he'd been in charge at United we'd not be in the financial hole we're in now

I know that's what you said. And I said that's not exactly a shocking thing to say. Bit of pointing out the obvious.

Is there any link here or are you two just having a pub chat?
If you mean are there links to DCL, he was discussed again on Talk of the Devils a couple of days ago, and the Athletic have been pretty consistent in chucking his name in all summer, along with the assertion that the club would like another striker, but will only go for one if there are significant outgoings.

Significant outgoing would be Sancho, be nice if we could find takers for Lindelof and Eriksen too. He is another of those strikers who has picked up so many injuries, similar age and profile to Toney so would definitely pick Ivan given the choice

I imagine most would. Unfortunately even with good selling we'd be competing with a Saudi offer for a player who seems to be asking the earth for his next contract.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club sees DCL as the more gettable player and the one less likely to kick up a fuss when benched for Hojlund/Zirkzee. He's also very strong in the air which is a profile we don't have. But then we barely ever cross anyway, so how much will that matter?

It's hard work trying to talk yourself into DCL being a really good idea but I'm determined to at least try!

Would definitely take him but for the injuries

Why the hell would you want to do that?
It's just an idea if Ten Hag wants an alternative to McTominay as a plan B. I'm not exactly a fan but he has a good aerial presence which is lacking from any of United's forwards and can bring others into play as a plus.

He is a player that Ancelotti loved. A physical beast who can both outrun and beat basically any defender in the PL in the air. Great presence in the box. Proven that he, for a quite poor Everton, can have an average of 0,5 goals per game in the PL from open play. I think the only players who have been able to do that at Man Utd the past ten years are Cavani and Ronaldo. Furthermore, DCL is a really good defender.

If he is available at a really low price and a sensible wages (that takes into account the fact that he has been injury prone) I would be all for him.

A seems like a professional and likeable dude as well. Would probably accept being backup.

You mean Ineos? ETH ain’t picking transfers.
I agree though, I think they would like someone to chuck on if we’re chasing games/rotate with Hojlund who is more of a classic CF. DCL I think is pretty average but if he’s available on the cheap, he’s better than the alternative (which is Bruno at 9).

In the last few days Utd fans seem to want Chilwell, Coman, DCL, Sterling etc etc..

What the hell is wrong with people that these players could be considered as good signings?

"...Chelsea expressed interest" must be added automatically to any transfer tweet now, bloody hell.

Stopgap signings appeal to some fans at the end of the window when you see the options we have on the bench. A penny for every time you read "he's better than Antony".

Personally I'd rather play Bruno up front and Martinez at LB than have any of the aforementioned shite on our wage bill, but I understand the desperation from some fans. A lot of us have PTSD from Casemiro at CB and Weghorst up top.

Well I'd be of the opinion that it's better to wait for the right player rather than fill that position now with someone who's going to be surplus to requirements in 12-18 months.

I'd rather see Wheatley get time on the pitch than throw money away on DCL.
