Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dreadful player that will make everyone feel like they are taking crazy pills if we play/sign him. After a shrewd summer I can’t imagine this is even 5% true.

No thanks.

The one real elite side to his game is his aerial ability though. Wins a shit tonne of headers.

Strong rumours doing the rounds today he’s asked to leave the club. Heard anything on this @SilentWitness ?

Yes, the Bobble apparently reported it in his patreon sub thing that he does with others.

Poor form all round really. Both by him and the club. Club should have set their stall out early and made a firm decision prior to the first game kicking off in the season.

Yeah agreed. Club is an absolute shambles at the min. Can’t imagine Beto leading the line all year. So many issues, I fear this is the year you guys finally go down.
Hey, at least you’ve signed another goalie. Someone said it’s your 9th goalie on the books. And the 6th over the age of 22 or something ridiculous like that. Without doubt the worst run club in England, can’t be many challengers for worst run club in Europe

I feel sorry for Thelwell to be fair. He's doing his best to try and scrape through the horrible decisions that have been made over the years by Moshiri but he and Dyche should have been firmer regarding DCL. It's starting to feel like there is a huge disconnect between them in regards to transfer activity.

Hopefully Dom does go out the door for 15-20m at least along with Maupay and one of Holgate/Keane and we can get two or three more in.

It's hard to say really, I think again the bottom half clubs aren't much to shout about and Dyche did manage 48 points last season with roughly the same squad of players. I'd be surprised if you needed more than 40 this year to stay up and think it's feasible that Dyche hits that number again.

Yeah found it extremely strange that he pulled out that “league experience” line as his reason for starting the same old heads on the weekend and leaving the new signings on the bench.
It defo feels a bit like he wasn’t fully behind those signings. How do you splash out what is fairly big money for Everton on Jake o Brien and end up playing Michael Keane?
Hope that’s not the case, when money is tight you need manager and Thelwell to be on same page. I get the sense Dyche would be extremely difficult to work with though. Don’t ask me why, just a feeling I have.

There are rumours that O'Brien was a club rather than Dyche signing. It doesn't help that he's also out of contract at the end of the season (Dyche).

Where does he want to go?

I think Newcastle might come in for him again.

I'd go for him.

I think he'd be a better version of Weghorst basically if you signed him and he managed to stay fit. Could probably get about 8-10 goals but provide an outlay for those wide players to get goals.

Any idea how many of his 33 PL appearances last season were as a starter and as a sub?

How have his injuries affected him?

Thanks.

That's not too bad after two injury hit seasons. Was he any good last season? Or did it seem like the injuries have taken a toll on his body?

A reason I'm a bit disappointed is that Dyche and the club have spent a lot of time with him being patient and creating an excellent rehab programme for him. Not rushing him back too early and making sure his body can be managed. He looked a mix of his old self. Some rusty performances but he was great at the back end of the season and he's still an aerial duel monster and at great at holding the ball up. Bullied Van Dijk in the derby. I think he'd be fine as a back up or third striker for most squads in the league and as a starter for bottom half sides.

Probably needs to go down a level. Starting regularly in the Championship would be a far better way for him to get his game back than 5 starts and 15 subs at Newcastle or wherever.

Yeah a good comparison. I also think that's the way we are set up for the foreseeable now, where whoever is the front man is more there to help the 10 and wide players build attacks, rather than an out and out goal scorer. I'd certainly have him as an option.

He's 27, he's wanting a last chance move and big contract of his career. We offered him a very good contract (100-150k zone) but he or his agency thinks they can get that somewhere else or more.

I'm thinking a footballing perspective. Obviously if money's the priority then just pick the highest bidder.

That's what I was thinking too, a second/third choice who can be useful as a sub in hoof ball situations. We might be losing one in McTom, so DCL might fit in there seamlessly. I actually think he'd be a better option for those situations. The biggest concern is his injury troubles. He'd be looking for a 3/4 year contract at a new club and I don't want us to be laden with a player who is out for lengthy periods and becomes a liability instead of being useful.

Yep, that's the risk of it, especially when he's been wangling for a big contract.

We actually had a deal set up for Minteh to join us and DCL to join Newcastle but DCL asked for too much and it broke the deal down. :wenger:

Still think they might try again and something could be worked out though. We will see.

Is O’Brien match fit yet? It may be a few weeks before you see him being eased in

We should go for a Loan with option to buy and we pay his salary
