In almost 2 years, I believe the major highlight of his United career has been having the last minute wayward shot against PSG, which resulted in the inadvertent handball and thus the penalty.

He has shown a bit of promise and some occasional moments of good dribbling and crossing ability but has underwhelmed mostly.

So, Yay or Nay for Diogo?

Too soon, due to the injuries. Still just 21. And there is something about his attitude and mentality that makes me think we should give him a proper chance. Look how much McTominay has developed in 2-3 years (the age difference between them).

We shouldn't definitely be looking to whore him around in the summer to see if there's any takers. Even if it's just on loan
Id like to see him loaned out - hes not going to get many games for us if AWB is fit and in form and hes not going to develop much in the U23 with the odd league cup or europa league game so yeah a loan would seem a good move all round

I'd say too soon to right him off. Still I dont rate him as highly as a fullback. He is very questionable on defense and his attackers get by him too easily. Id much rather we focus on him as a wingback because his strengths are much more suited to attacking. He is also still young and seems to enjoy his time here.

Daniel james also thinks he is top 3 fastest players at the club along with himself and rasford according to this article https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...James-names-fastest-players-Old-Trafford.html

Yeah maybe it doesnt tell the whole story but he always seems to be kicking a ball about and training hard on social media. Speaks well in his interviews too and overall just gives me the impression that he works hard at his game. I might be totally wrong but you've obviously thought likewise.

Very interesting that James says he's in the top 3 at the club for pace. Suggests theres more to come from him as thats never really been clear watching him. Maybe has been struggling to ever be 100% fit on the pitch.

Too soon to consider selling or loaning him out. He hasn't really contributed much - allowing of course for his very limited chances to do so - but when on the pitch he has often showed signs of ability and promise. Since he's unlikely to be earning much and we're under no real pressure to play him more than suits us, I'm happy for him to just hang around in the first team squad. He's AWB's only real cover and usefully can also cover Shaw and Williams on the left. If he can stay injury free he will get more game time and we'll see what happens.

Actually, I do not follow him on social media, so I would not know. But that just underlines it. I’ve just noticed that he has great hunger and desire on the pitch. Looks like someone who wants to win all the time. Its a bit weird, but few players do to the same extent.

I think we have decent options at full back now, and Dalot as you say can cover both sides well. Gives us a more attacking alternative to AWB and an option infront of him too as we've seen.

Right back: AWB, Dalot, Laird
Left back: Shaw, Williams, Dalot

Hopefully if they all continue to develop we'll not have to buy another fullback for years.

If you listen to his interview on the official United podcast he comes off as very driven and professional. He signed with us knowing he wouldn't play much and that he'd have to work hard for every minute of playtime. He also commented that us signing AWB was purely positive for everyone. His parents moved with him here and they go to every game, so much that the press that follow United around are more familiar with them than they are with him as he hasn't given many interviews.

Interesting. Will check it out. Think we should be patient with young players with this type of mentality. He also appears to have alot of the other tools - physical, technical and a quick head.

If he has a bit more luck with injuries he can become a really good player. Remember, Robertson at the same age was barely a regular at Hull.

Some rumors that Spurs want him and in negotiations with United. Coming from ITK from Reddit who has recently been quite okay with his information, but still take with a grain of salt. Figures quoted is 25m while we are holding out for 35m.

He's the worst passer in the squad, both in terms of technique and pass selection.

Unless he can improve that significantly in the next couple of seasons, he won't have a future here.

:D Yeah, he's more of a RWB or RM.

Similar to TAA in the sense they excel in attacks and suspect in defense.
Dalot doesn’t excel in attack. He’s just decent going past people. His crossing is crap and his passing is worse.

Norwich 1:2 Man Utd
Very poor. Offers less than AWB in attack and is a terrible defender.

He's really poor whatever way we look into it. He might improve, but even if that happens, he will still be average at best. Not an exceptional talent in any way let's be honest.

Guy is cheeks. £18m for a player who had made 5 professional starts for Porto.

I don't really see the point in persisting with him. Loan him out and let Laird take advantage of his opportunities.

We should loan him and see if he has anything to offer. He needs to get a proper chance, which we cannot afford to give him. What are his strenghts, for what exactly have we paid? Geniune question.

He's just a bit shit. It's especially odd when Leicester signed a significantly better player only a few years older than Dalot in the same summer for not much more money.

Promote Laird and Sell Dalot while he retains some transfer value .

It's mental to expect this guy to come good. There's very little evidence he would. Sell him and promote Laird

He certainly does need to improve his defensive positioning. A lot of his crosses were also very disappointing.

Yeah it doesn’t look good for him. It can’t be easy barely featuring then starting a game but he’s not making any impact.

Dalot reminds me of myself when I played football; too busy worrying about not making a fool of himself so he never takes risk, never fully commits and will never become a good player.

It's shame because if he has gotten this far he is obviously very talented, but I don't think he will be our starting right-back. Being Bruno's best buddy isn't enough to play for United unfortunately.

Great shame for him really he was bad today. In fairness to him he’s hard very little game time but he’s not showing much to encourage us all. His attacking and delivery is best and we saw non of that today

It is amazing really that almost none of Mou's defensive signings are working out here and he is supposed to be good at that.

Not that his other signings for us are that great either.

He looked promising for his first few games when attacking. He's been shocking all round whenever he gets a chance.

I know, so many have looked good for 5 games when arriving.

Another one of Jose’s wasteful signings. Williams was miles better when he came on and he plays leftback most times

The problem is he has missed a lot of time to injury. He probably needs a loan or move to some club that will get him significant game time.

I absolutely rate Laird more than Dalot, unfortunately he has been a bit injury prone as well.

Bit disappointing today, thought he would bomb down that right wing when in space, but just seemed to jog, then mostly pass the ball square or back. Motst of Norwich's opportunities came down his side, saying that, Mata didn't get back enough to give him support, but in the air, and 1 on 1 situations, he struggled. Good job Williams came on, I think Hernandez would have opened us up down that side, saying that, Greenwood put in a shift to help out.
