If he could manage to stay fit for two weeks in a row he should really be loaned out. He'll never get anywhere near enough games here and he's complete dog shit at defending. He needs experience badly if he is ever going to improve.

He looked pretty good at first but the more and more I've seen of him the less impressive he's been.

Still time for him to turn things round but his fitness record, as is tradition with Utd defenders, has been utterly shocking.

Spurs need a RB. We could ship him there in a loan with future buying options. It's not working for both parties, time to move on IMHO.

Will be a shame if he doesn't turn into a top player, because he's showing so much talent since a very young age.

Jesus you lot are ruthless. Let's try and give the young lad a chance to stay fit first, he's had a terrible time with injuries so far. I think he actually would be better employed as a Wing Back for what it's worth.

I'm actually on the player side, because he's been an outstanding talent on every youth tournament he participated. He was almost always in FIFA youth team of the year. At the age of 17, he was the player who everyone thought it would become a terrific full back.
But we cannot hold to the expectations on a very long term IMHO. Footballer's professional careers are pretty short when compared to other jobs, so I think there must be a balance between having patience and actually letting it go.

I agree clubs cannot just hang on to expectations, but we only signed him in the summer of 2018. He hasn't even had 2 full years and is barely into his 20's, I think when he's been fit he has shown great potential so discussing getting rid of him already seems way OTT.

This, feckers are here are ruthless.

But then remember, these are the boards that wanted to "burst Rashy's bubble" and be away with him rather than offering him a big contract just a few months ago.

Dalot has plenty of time to develop here and I reckon he'll be excellent for us if we're patient with the 20 year old.

The potential in Dalot is really amazing. I saw him countless times playing either at Portugal youth National Teams and at youth level (some sport channels here in PT stream some games of the U19 club competitions) and he was always a player that shown immense talent. Let's hope that stability will come along with fitness.

Liverpool 2:0 Man Utd
I suspect he’ll just be switched to a RW for now given Rashford’s injury. With the resources we have at present, I think that would be the best course of action. Greenwood can’t play every minute, and Dalot has played well there before. The only problem is it significantly reduces our goal threat having him in our front 3, but his running, dribbling and crossing is good. He’s more a 442 winger than a 433 one.

Which is also good as it gives us a different option and a change of shape. We should try a 4-4-2 anyway with Dalot and James both being two-way players it allows us to try Martial and Greenwood together up front.

More generally, Dalot is a technical player so getting him more involved would be beneficial as our team is often too workmanlike and lacking a bit of refinement.

Slightly worrying that a fresh Dalot couldn't keep pace with a 75 odd minutes in Jordan Henderson...

I'll put it down to him not being up to the pace of the game - he's never struck me as slow.

One spot in the team up for grabs, and who the hell knows, this would be is a great time for Dalot to blossom.

Hopefully just lack of sharpness, but it worried me too. If that's his current pace after his injury and it stays like that, no way he'll make it here.

Oddly, he's always struck me as slow.

And I think I'm not the only one who thinks that on here.

Yeah, I would say that as a young full back that's his absolutely glaring weakness.

Pre injury he was one of the fastest players in our squad. Perhaps he is holding back a bit.

I can't remember ever thinking he's anything other than slow. To the point of it making him risky as a full back.

He was so promising when he first arrived. It's a shame if the injury has slowed him down as pace gives you a lot more option in how you want to defend. It will be very hard for him to develop if hes lost that.

It's criminal how less he has played for us due to injuries. Just never got going. I think he has 3-4 months of injury free time in last 18 months of his career with United.

He was clocked as the second fastest player after Lukaku in that list which Lukaku leaked. It was his first game back from injury and he was sprinting against a pumped up Liverpool captain. Maybe give a few games before slating him?

He isn’t fast sadly. He will have to become quite extraordinary in every other department if he’s going to make it as a fullback.

Still very young. Would like to see him get plenty of minutes before the end of the season.

Typical caf extremity. The comment was nothing like ‘slating’.

On this page only people are telling he is "dog shite" in defending. I didn't know that is not "slating" but just a normal criticism of a player.

Maybe take a look at the post just above me? Or maybe read through the thread?

The question about his speed vs Jordan Henderson’s, which you seemed to be referencing, was in a far friendlier tone. In general, I agreehe is judged harshly.

He is really really bad at defending though. Williams, who I don't think is a great defender either, does everything Dalot does but better.

That isn’t based in one game upon returning from injury is it though? It’s based on the ~28 appearances he’s had where he has been nothing other than dog shit at defending. He’s young and can improve, doesn’t change the fact he is currently dog shit at defending. How many appearances would you like before we can tell the truth that he in fact dog shit at defending?

Definitely just out of shape, and not properly warmed up.

There was a stat that he had the highest top speed last year for us I believe? unless his injury has affected that but Id hope not.

Acceleration is probably more important than top speed.

And Henderson was never quick until Klopp brought in his secret recipe, let's call it..

Why don't you think Williams is good defensively? Because he's played people on a few times?

Think I'm going to vomit. Get Dalot far away from our attack. Backing a player that has never scored a goal in top level football to be United's starting wide forward?

I think he plays like a lad that’s only coming into the first team. There’s potential there but he has a lot of lapses of concentration and his positioning is poor. They can be coached though. Thankfully his athletic attributes can get him out of danger for the above.

I think he naturally looks a good combative defender. The mistakes you allude to can be very much coached out and are not uncommon at such young age.

I think there's a good and versatile player in there, but he needs to be able to stay fit at least for a few months if he's ever going to come close to realising it.

I said that they can be coached. His physical attributes are great, he’s a decent tackler. But his mental side of the game isn’t up to snuff yet and he can be a bit too reckless in the tackle judging from his reserve performances. That said, he’s a much better defender than Dalot, and seems to know how to defend. Those issues I mentioned solely fall down to experience. I haven’t seen any such promise in Dalot defensively.

Poor mans dream, perhaps. It´s more obvious for Mata and Greenwood to be utilised front right, but Dalot would add some physics. Greenwood, James, Mata, Fred, Pereira. That makes you a very light team. Dalot won´t be playing much at right back, I reckon, so this is a chance for him. He´s got the talent and he´s 20 years old. Stranger things have happened (e.g. Williams).

I don’t see it with him. He’s had a lot of injuries, but even when he has stayed fit, he’s never been remotely impressive. I know he’s supposed to be fast, but honestly from what I’ve seen on the field, he looks like the slowest wide player we have. And technically he doesn’t seem particularly good either, which is quite worrying considering he’s an awful defender.

He’s significantly worse than Brandon Williams both defensively and offensively, which is the reason Young played so much last season despite his terrible performances. Needs to stay fit and then he needs a big turnaround, but with his showings thus far, I don’t feel confident. There have been plenty of players in the past who have dominated in U-17 etc. but failed to replicate that form in the highest level.
