'A crowd favourite', oh how things change, he was being crucified on here and in the stands not so long ago by the fickle amongst us now were almost solely reliant on him.

Football, bloody hell.

The tide turns quicker than the sea.

I just want to get this out of the way now, Berbatov is not going to play well tonight because Fergie is playing him in the Kevin Davies role.

As long as he puts himself about and makes an effort, that will be good enough. A repeat performance of last wek in Turkey and he can go be fecked

Oh for the love of fecking Christ, let the game get played first eh

Today is effort. Its clear for all to see. Last week no effort, it was clear for all to see

You see what you want to see, the lad was back in central defence making important headers on many occasions against Bursa how is that poor effort from a striker? He got frustrated and went a bit ott criticising the poor service he got but at least he cares. If you want to see a player who doesn't give a toss look at Adebayor with his gormless smile every time City lose.

He was excellent today.

The commentator on ESPN said, SAF looked like he almost apologized to Berba for subbing him, as he has been very good and I too think, Berba had a very good game

Terrific play in a role he's unsuited to, I just wish we could have been a little more adventurous and played Hernandez off of him, that game was there to be won.

I'm just saying that he's going to get slated tonight and it's unfair because he's not a lone striker.

Told you to wait and see :smirk:

He was very good tonight, did as much as we could have asked of him really, just a shame his volleyed effort was down Hart's throat.

Performance was great. I was disappointed to see him come off, combining with Chicharito could have unlocked the City bus.

If u are not in the box, you wont score. Played too deep for my liking and he wasnt really available upfront

I thought he did well tonight! I was upset when we brought him off. Park should have come off as he had one of his everytime he touches the ball he gives it away kind of nights!

He did very well tonight - calm in the storm, if you will. This was never going to be the fixture to break his goal drought. But that was a good shift he put in there.

United played pretty well, missed another pacey attacker at times though, such as Rooney or Valencia, reckon it would have been a comfortable win with one of those two for Park, who was good, but when something special was needed from him it didn t come off. I think he ahs a good player and showed why at the weekend but he isnt going to score goals every game.

Yeah, but he's so disciplined and his role, from a defensive aspect, is vital.

The way the game was, Fergie was never going to leave Berbatov on and get Hernandez into the side. At Old Trafford, he probably would have done.

There's no point in him hanging around in the box in a game like that. He played very well.

He had an ok game and surely its not ideal to play him alone. But when we got forward, he just wasnt available in the box

agreed

He looks so good at times without ever looking dangerous. I think part of it has to do with our midfield just not being able to deliver the ball to him when he does make good runs at which point he just seems to give up and stay deep and try to become the advanced playmaker.

The man is a mystery because even when he has a off day you can see his quality, but then he has gone through such long barren spells that you know even if he plays well every shot he takes on goal will go directly into the keepers arms.

At no point today did he ever look threatening, and I personally thought he had a good game.

I don't know how Berba or United want him to play the lone front man role.

He either plays like say like Chamakh for example- and doesnt get too involved and waits for the service or he plays deeper and gets more involved. The problem is when he kinda tries to play both roles going deep and then playing as far forward - the team cannot rely on his runs with any certainty.

If he plays like say Chamakh the team knows he is always the front man and they can develop their play and passes accordingly. But if he plays deep then they know they must always have a runner from deep. Rooney finally got accustomed to the lone front man role when he himself said he played further forward and got involved less with the build up play.

Now Berba plays better with another attacker as by definition it defines his role he either plays deeper or like he did against Tottenham further up with Hernandez coming from a deeper position.

So I say Berba could be more effective as the lone front man if he decides on which type of lone front man to play - the archetypal no9 or the creative no10 but not both.

Berbs and Tevez were both missing in the box for me... I mean Berbs tries too much to get involved in the buildup he leaves no one looking to make a run in the box...

This stops Scholes from trying through balls and you can clearly see him doing a lot better when Hernandez came on.

For me, Berbs looks more effective when he has a partner.

When he plays lone striker, he should be trying hard to get into the box and has to accept the fact that he won't be getting much of the ball.

So in other words, SAF played for a draw instead of changing the shape of the side and going with two strikers seeking a late winning goal, all the while City hadn't created much of anything remotely leading to a goal.

Are City now looked at like a tough European away match?

I thought he held the ball up reasonably well tonight but that's about it.

He never looked threatening.
Held the ball too long on occasions when a simple pass would have been much better.
And rarely got into good areas in City's half so our midfielders could pick him out. (Maybe because he kept dropping deep to recieve the ball even though we already had 3 in the middle)

His form at the beginning of the season was blistering! The last 3 or 4 games IMO have been rather poor.
Hope he picks it up again soon, and maybe playing with a partner would help.

I don't think SAF wanted to give the pleasure of bragging rights of getting letting Shotty get a victory. They were bad enough in the Carling Cup last year - lucky we had the second leg to make ammends.
