Dimitar Berbatov | 2009/10 Performances

Berba's shown the extent of his skill on the ball and such for us (that turn against West Ham last season being a prime example), but in terms of going for shots, and his finishing, he's not looked as good as he did at Spurs or Leverkusen. Even when he does take shots on, his accuracy isn't fantastic. I really like Berbatov, and you can see in his interviews how much he wants to be a great player for us, but his striking role just hasn't clicked here yet. Sometimes moves just don't quite work out for players, and this might be one of those occasions (not to suggest he's been poor for us; he's just not consistently performed at the level you'd expect from a £30m player)

bollocks. veron came from a title winning lazio where his class was appreciated worldwide..moreso than berbatov.
Yeah Veron was a world class talent. Berbatov isn't any where near that level he's another Sheringham, a good player who was great for Spurs.

He was pretty decent, needs to stop holding up the ball a release it a bit earlier. Same can be said about Valencia though but berba slows down our flow a bit but the piece of outrages flick made up a bit of his own frustration.

The assist aside I thought he was poor. He didn't even have a single goalscoring chance which is worrying considering what kind of team Wolverhampton fielded.

So what do we make of tonights performance?

Wasn't really in it for the first half, even dribbled the ball out of play at one point, grew into the game much more in the second but still wasn't much of a goal threat. He looked very frustrated and annoyed with his team mates who did have a chance to play him in at times. Was a nice assist for Valencia's goal though. Dwelled on the ball alot but against a second string Wolves side it doesn't really matter.

6/10

I'd go with this, a lot of gesticulating and holding onto the ball too long, but the occasional flash of brilliance. Not sure where the Spurs version of him has gone.

My impression is that he was a bit too isolated, whenever he got the ball he had almost no-one to exchange with. To be fair the Wolves back four were very good tonight, except for that idiot who gaves us that silly penalty, and Berbatov ended the game very frustrated.
Having said that, the assist that led to Valencia's goal was world-class

I agree about the lack of goalscoring threat he presents but I though he gave alot in terms of general build up play and if anything overdid it trying to shut all the doubters up about his lack of work rate etc

Him and Scholesy were the only players on that pitch, Evra included who knew how to keep the ball with ease.

Normally though, Berba would have sharper and snappier players around him like the Fletchers, Giggses and Andersons rather than Gibson and Scholes who are more take a touch or two before playing it as opposed to surge forward etc.

I thought he was pretty good, outstanding play for the third goal but looked a little rusty. We must remember that's his first 90 minutes for us in a very long time too.

It was pretty crap, but so were everyone else, attack wise. It appeared at times Berba and everyone else were playing different games. We'll never get the best out of him that way.

The longer the game went on the more he tried to get involved, but we could have been playing for 3 hours and he still wouldnt have looked like scoring a goal.

So what do we make of tonights performance?

Poor first half, found form at the start of the second then faded. Got frustrated when there was no one available and sycthed down when he took the piss. Probably his worst game for us, what's the point of him making the effort of getting in the box if he's ignored when he gets there?

I don't get Rooney at the moment, just looks so full of energy and alot more mobile than he has done in a long time .. yet he can't get his touch and passing going which usually is the one thing thats always there.

Just needs to put it all together.

Yeah maybe, I really don't know what to think of Berba anymore.

I want to be fair to him.

It was his first game in several weeks, he looked rusty and didn't have the right tempo. His first touch was OK but instead of moving forward he choose to hold the ball with his back against the opposition. That's a sign of a player without confidence.

One moment of magic, but he should be grateful to Valencia, it was a 1/5 pass with a little luck involved.

All in all without confidence his not half the player we saw at Spurs. I give him time to the end of the season. If he still haven't improved to the level he had at Spurs it's time to buy a new striker.

I agree with you that he needs time with him not playing much these last few weeks but then I look at tonight and sometimes I see things I don't like.Things I don't think he'll change in his game whether he comes back from injury or not, like passing the ball when he has a clear opening to shoot it.We all want him to score goals and each half opportunity he has and that he doesn't try to take frustrates me

That's not what I want to hear - you're ahead of me. Drop me a line if you ever get to the end, so at least there is light at the end of the tunnel for me!:(

It does get better. A lot better.

But they'll always throw you a curve-ball, sleep-wise, when you least expect it. I think they're designed that way.

The (loveable) wee shits.
