7.5m will seem reasonable for him in the long run.

We can laugh now & say 3 points is 3 points but if that Bayer header had gone in instead of hitting the post, Fergie wud have been slaughtered by the press this morning!

And the poor chap's performance showed, with him running around aimlessly & miscueing so many of his passes which put the defence under further pressure, altho' I must say he did really try very hard in a position unfamiliar to him! ( I wonder what damage that wud have done for his confidence? )

Kinky, Ole has played so many times for United & Norway as sole striker to good effect & wud have been able to hold on to the ball to relieve the pressure & with the acres of space afforded by the Bayer defence, he wud have converted from at least one of the many chances to run at the Bayer defence & which Forlan fumbled with! ( we have seen Ole break through the defence on a run so many times & convert! We don't have to give examples I'm sure! )

Darko, much better qualified people than you or me have said so, altho' to be fair, I think he ironically improved tremendously during the final games of his career at OT & I was sad to see him go at that stage! :( </strong><hr></blockquote>
Or alternatively the ref would have correctly given a penalty, and after Forlan scored from it they'd be both hailed in the press.

Maybe in Forlorn's case but not so in Veron's he's been playing in Europe for years...

Playing in Italy isn't exactly playing in England though. The cultural and linguistic differences, as well as different climate etc are still factors. Some players adapt to these faster than others. Some never do.

Hit the nail on the head there I think.

As I am sure you are aware, I was chatting to a mate at LFC the other day who informed me that we were offered Veron for £20m a month before you blew £28.1m - Houllier chatted with Eriksson about it, he said he was too lightweight for the Premiership. Interesting that Demento didn't have a similar chat...

The verdict is still out on Veron imo. He hasn't been as good as many hoped, but he hasn't necessarily been bad either. Just average imo. Certainly many of us expected more, but then again its been just over a year, and many players have had bad one off years in otherwise stellar careers.

I'm sure spending £20m a month would have put him off too.

Diao is a squad player, Diouf is a 21 year old forward with more goals from open play than anyone in your squad, Cheyrou is a quality young creative player.

The transfer fees for all three don't even make £20m let alone the £28.1m you blew on Veron... but lets not turn this into a Man Utd v Liverpool thread eh Ruddy, can you try that?

Oh Livvie, come on, you`re just being a Muppet and a Glory Hunter and Day Tripper and every other cliche some posters can muster. Oh and don`t forget to Feck Off, too.

Remember that everybody is welcome to their opinion so long as it echoes those of a few self-appointed politburo posters. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I never claimed we won every game.

Nor did I claim that he's the greatest at playing the lone striker role. Just that he has done it successfully.

We all know that none of our players are as good as yours.

Not really.....no poorer than any other lazio player (exception of Nesta) when they failed to hold on to the serie a title. Also, they were affected by Sven's decision to leave half way through that season.

Just to intervene with my tuppence worth in this spat between you mancs and scousers,my analysis of Veron is :

a)He is used to being the playmaker....Keane and him in same side doesn't work

b)The team doesn't play to his strengths

c)He never wanted to join in the first place. His heart is with Lazio (failing that, some other italian club or even with his argie mates in Valencia)and you can tell from his body language that he just doesn't want to be in England (let alone the grim north!)

Maybe he will settle down after SAF is replaced at the end of this season by his ex Lazio manager and Keane goes to Celtic!!

Eriksson was the one who recommended Veron to chose United as he thought he'd be suited to play for United and in England.

So why would he lie to Houllier? He's been spot on with his assessment so far...
