Di Marzio: Barca make bid for Pogba

That he choose money over Madrid?

Truly, the only way United can compete with Pep Spain is by offering stupid money

:wenger:

Madrid were offering £60m weren't they? Wasn't dealing with Riaola a big stumbling block for Madrid as well because he demands stupid money?

Also Pogba would probably get higher wages at Madrid (they offer some premium wages, even more than United). I think that Pogba wanted to go to Untied, and United put up a bigger fee.

This reminds me why I dislike Barca more than RM, fecking saintly cnuts.

With loyalty bonuses and image rights, he's the highest paid midfielder in europe. We weren't willing to come close to that back then. I'm afraid we wouldn't even now

The poor jilted lover
When it comes to Pogba, never said otherwise :(

I'd like to ask for measure at the time of distinguishing FC Barcelona and their fans, and the actual bs the media sells about us and our "plastic" fans.

I mean, we're no saints obviously, but 25% of the bad press about us comes from a media (Marca and such) that are interested in making us look worse, and the other 25% is backlash to Madrid press from Barcelona zealots (Mundo Deportivo or Sport) that survive just by being hype machines for deluded Barcelona fans.

Well, if Dembele is a £135m talent for Barcelona then I hope they have £400m handy.

There is literally no chance on planet Earth that he leaves this year.

We would see him run down his contract before we accepted a bid anything less than a world record fee - which wouldn’t even be accepted this summer... if at all.

Not happening. Pogba took over from Rooney as the marquee player of the club. I don't see Pogba being sold. He's indispensable.

There’s no way Ed will allow it to happen as Pogba is our marquee player and has huge commercial appeal, if it comes to a straight choice between Pogba and Jose then I only see one winner as Ed will go with Pogba and we’ve already seen the beginning of the end between Ed and Jose which will see Jose 100% gone by May at the very latest then Pogba made full time captain.

The very likely scenario is Ed goes with Pogba...Jose Leaves. Pogba Leaves next summer anyway.

Next summer he will still have 3 years on his contract. He won't leave next summer, unless Barca makes really a great offer and he really wants to leave.

People thought the same for De Gea for some time, and he is still here. Barca cannot bully United, and neither can Madrid.

Yeah, I'd agree with that assessment.
You also have to take into account who United will appoint after Jose.......
What if it were Zidane or Deschamps?
French legends that Pogba would surely love to be captain for...!

Hope we do what other big clubs do in these situations and give him an improved contract. Barca can feck off.

Forget the WC and this transfer noise would anyone have claimed back in May that his United performances have warranted a new contract?

No they don't but we can't really let him leave. We have been penny pinching all summer and a new contract is something we can afford. He performs a lot better than Sanchez IMO so atleast their salaries should match.

We dont have to worry about him leaving though, he's got another 3 (?) years on his current deal, let him perform to his WC standard for the majority of this season and sit down next summer with him if it warrants it

The irony of this thread is that the posters that cannot hear a bad word about Jose are the primary abusers of one of best players. It's a united front only when it suits them.

It's hypocrisy at its finest.
Be quiet, they are coming. And they will get you ass

Sell him for big money to Barca next summer (if he wants to leave, that is)

I'm his biggest fan. But if he wants to leave, let him go.

We've lost Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo... and we always manage.

But there's no way it's happening now.

There is no way we would allow Pogba to leave now the transfer window has closed for us. It would hugely weaken us both in terms of on-the-pitch and as a brand as well. He may well leave next year but it would have to be for a fee that was astronomical but even at that there are hidden perils, look at the long-term damage that selling Ronaldo to Real Madrid did to us, we lost the best player in the world and the word was out that we were not top dogs anymore, we should have been building a dynasty for the ages and instead we have been in decline ever since.

We lost all those players under our greatest ever manager who could constantly rebuild teams.

Massive difference.

He's arguably our best outfield player and I can't see us replacing him with the same quality. As we saw from this summer, we have the money, but if the right players aren't available there's little point of having that money. The question is, would selling Pogba result in us improving as a team, even if we received £200m? I'm not so sure.

The irony of the Pogba fanboys is that they can't see that everywhere Pogba goes the same crap happens.

If Jose went in the morning Pogba would still be moaning. As soon as the going gets difficult for the next manager the same thing will happen.

If we sold Pogba for 200m - more than DOUBLE what we paid, after letting him go originally for a peppercorn fee...

It'll be all's well that ends well.

He's a fantastic player and a sports marketer's wet dream.

But there'll always be another player out there for us. Whether it's someone else we have to pay 100m+ for, or an unknown talent, or someone from the academy.

The more worrying issue is who can we get in to replace Mourinho when he goes? But that's for another thread.

I think Pogba already believes he is our best outfield player but I would love him to to PROVE he is our best outfield. No matter what anyone on here says he hasn't done that yet. If he has a great season, helps us do well and someone offered us £200m I would take it. Much as I want him to succeed here I believe he would move to RM or Barca in the blink of an eye, simply for the prestige. We have to be honest with ourselves, most players would rather play for either of those clubs over UTD. Seeing what a media courting machine Pogba is I don't believe for a second he would stay with us if either of the Spanish giants came calling.

I think with £200m, you could improve the team by firstly buying somebody who 100% suits Jose, if of course Pogba doesn't and we don't really know that yet, only speculation.

I'm not a Jose fanboy, or a Pogba fanboy. I'm a Utd fanboy. Both manager and player have questions hanging over them right now. Everyone can see Jose's faults, he isn't able to hide them. Everyone sticks with him because of his success record.

Just because Pogba was in a WC winning side (he didn't win the tournament on his own by the way) doesn't give him any credit for Utd from my point of view. He was not a world beater for us last season so I totally understood and agreed with some of Jose's comments regarding Pogba. Spot on. 'it is not about us getting the best out of Pogba, it is about him giving his best for us'. Sorry but I totally agree with that.

If I could say anything to Jose or Pogba it would be:

Paul, give us a great season, help us win something or at least challenge for it, then either stay or go. In the meantime, less talking.

Jose, give us a great season, help us win something or at least challenge for it, then either stay or go. In the meantime, less talking.

Amen to that..!

Pogba never moaned or asked to leave while he was at Juve, never said a single bad word about them.

Who would be that player? I genuinely don't think we'd be able to replace him with a similar/higher level player, not matter how much money we have. I'd much rather sell our lesser players and bring in quality to improve the quality of our team. Besides money's not the issue for us, it's the quality of our players.

I agree that Pogba hasn't proven himself at the top level at a consistent enough basis yet. But, equally very few of our player's have. de Gea aside I can't genuinely think of another that has been consistently class for us. Mourinho's tactics and systems hasn't suited him. Deschamps missed a trick at Euros 2016 with regards to Pogba and he amended that during this world cup and we all saw what happened. I'm confident, if he stays injury free, Pogba will be top class this season.

I'd rather lose Mouninho than Pogba. After Rooney and Zlatan, he is the new marketing face of United (Woodward knows this) and a great unique world class player to boot. On his day he is the best in his position in the world, IMO.
