Yep. It was what annoyed me most about the ending. It's one thing putting Dexter in a position where he feel like he has to make the choice to kill the officer and for that to prompt Harrisson to turn on him, it's another for them to randomly have Dexter kill the officer just so Harrison can turn on him. It was totally context-less, they could have had Dexter randomly kill anyone at any point for the same outcome.
And they just shoehorned in a random scene where the coach buys him burgers to show the deep connection they have.
