Television Dexter

Why the feck was he a lumberjack at the end?

Seriously, other than Deb dying, which wasn't done well at all, those last few episodes really had no effect on me whatsoever. After 8 seasons, that's fecking pathetic.

well that was a rubbish finale. Hardly feels like the show is done and dusted at all. Sailing into the storm made little sense, and then what was the purpose of having him live and become a lumberjack. Random way to finish which just seems dumb. Either give him the happy ending with hannah in Argentina or kill the character off for good.

They didn't want to give him a happy ending. I can see what they were trying to do, but the execution of it was awful.

Purpose of him becoming a lumberjack was so that he'd be in isolation for the most part, he'd be living alone, working hard and having to deal with those thoughts and emotions. He wouldn't be truly happy anymore. I just can't really buy him faking his own death in those circumstances. The Dexter of the first season? Yeah, but not after all that has happened.

I don't think I would have liked any ending to be fair. The show had become so boring that no matter what they had pulled, it still wouldn't have made an impact.

I only watched about half of the episode, the rest of the time I was ding something else with it running in the background.

A shame, I normally love series finales, but this one did nothing for me, despite me having watched the show for 7 years.

The rumor has been going around for a while that there will be a spin off to this so the rubbish ending with the whole lumberjack thing didn't really shock me. Still really poor.

Its obvious what they tried to do but cos the seasons before were so shit it just looked stupid. Also, him being the one to actually kill Deb was the only bit I liked.

How the hell did he walk out of the hospital with a dead body? Also its Deb, surely someone from the force was there?

Just glad its over. THe original writer said how he planned on ending it and as predictable as it was, I'd have preferred it. Especially as the seasons/episodes leading to it would have been a million times better

It's leaving his son with the blonde serial killer girl that struck me as odd. Abandoning all his responsibilities and leaving behind the son he actually seemed to love seems like the opposite of what the character should have done.

Also, what ever happened to his step kids? He seems to have forgotten about them.

Yep. That's partly what I'm on about in the last few sentences.

With the step kids, they just seemed to decide to write them out and pretend they didn't exist for the most part - like with so many other things.

Extremely disappointing that the final season(s) didnt end with Dexter being revealed and chased down. That would mean that some actual police work was done in Miami though, and that would probably be the most unrealistic thing every to happen in the latter seasons of the series.

So that's over. Didn't really want Deb to die but that's all the thoughts I have on it. Now to Breaking Bad.

I've decided that he was a lumberjack the entire time and the whole series was just a daydream by him.

They managed to catch Saxon though! That's the most police work they've done in 8 long years. Granted, he did decide to waltz right up to them. And the uniforms on protection duty had sprinted off to catch a glimpse of the man with no tongue. Luckily Batista was just randomly hanging around and caught him in time.

When he killed Saxon I thought he was going to get caught or be forced to go on the run. I mean, that shit looked pretty deliberate and calculated to me. I couldn't believe it when Batista just let him go. Even if they bought the flimsy self defense excuse, you can't just let him leave the country without an investigation/trial.

Yeah, Quinn used to dislike Dexter too. I was trying to figure out of Quinn had Dexter sussed as a killer or not, he suspected him before. Batista seemed to be genuinely confused, so just let Dexter go.

That was funny, yeah. This is a guy who managed to kill a man in one swipe with nothing but a pen. A guy who has been accused openly of being a serial killer and who has continuously been connected with murder. How obvious does all this need to be?!

They must have had the worst writers in Hollywood working on this show for the past few years, what a load of absolute shite that was.

Totally underwhelming and more ridiculous writing. Dexter kills the most wanted man in the country in front of a camera and is allowed to walk away freely within 2 minutes and that's the end of it? He is then allowed to walk into a hospital and wheel a body out with no questions asked

The first 4 series were fantastic, the last 4 absolute garbage. I honestly cannot believe they've ended this show and still nobody knows he's a serial killer. That was the whole point, that at the end he would surely be found out. If they'd have killed him off, that would have been ok but this just confirms my belief that they are going to bring this back.

Dexter would have got him, he was armed. With a fork.

Am I weird in that I always sort of create my own backstory in those situations? And imagine it as though (in this instance) Dexter is still in contact with his step children, it's just when we're there to follow him about on his business he doesn't really speak to or see them much.

Bittersweet endings are by far my favorite, but this was so poorly executed that didn't had an effect on me at all. I just didn't care that much.

Deb dying was a bit unnecessary, especially with Dex surviving the ending. He should have died in order to make even a small impact.

The other parts were absolutely dogshit, from Dex killing Saxon in front of camera and then not having any trouble, to Hannah doing what she did in the bus and to Dex 'killing' and getting Deb outside of hospital. I thought that the writers were just random idiots but now I think that they entirely lack the brain.

Anyway, I hope that I remembemer the first half of the TV show, which was one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. The second part is by far the worst US TV show I have watched for more than a few episodes. Shame!

I think that it will continue in some form, be it a Season 9 after some years or a spin off. I think that is the reason why Dex became a lumberjack instead of a food for fish.

So no more Dexter :(

My theory is the producers decide to end this bandwagon of shit before all the good they did at the beginning of the show where totally forgotten under this last crap. Leaving Dexter alive means they could revive him again if they could get decent writers for the show.

Im sad the show ends, but im quite sure it will rebirth again somehow. Maybe 10-15 years into the future with young Harrison starting to feel the need to kill, forcing Dexter to come back and teach him the code.

That really was a terrible season. Makes it so much worse considering I watched breaking bad right before this pretty much every time:lol: it never stood a chance.

Dexter getting back to shore is explained here http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/09/23/dexter-interview-series-finale/ along with various comments on the show (mainly the final season). Dexter's boat had an emergency life raft (it's mentioned in episode 11 when a guy is looking to buy his boat), so that actually makes a bit of sense. Apparently Hannah didn't disguise herself because a lot of real-life fugitives don't. I guess most real-life fugitives don't know that they have a marshal right on their tail though, so that explanation doesn't really fit the bill as I see it. They're also looking into the possibilities of a spin-off with a whole new supporting crew.

Thanks for posting that. I remember about the emergency life raft (but getting to shore on a raft from near the eye of a hurricane I can't buy), and with Hannah, she clearly was very paranoid about being spotted, so their research doesn't really wash with me either. She'd have tried to disguise herself somehow.

Surely if you are a wanted woman like Hannah, the first thing you do is cut your hair, dye it purple and put on lots of gothic makeup and a few piercings, not walk around looking all hot and perfect

I thought I could see a bit of nip through her dress but could never be sure.

Just had a thought, did the Miami metro not suddenly think, where is Harrison? Or are they assuming he died on the boat too?

I feel like I'm being trolled...that was a serious ending? WHAT THE feck

The lumberjack part was at the end of everyone's episode? I wasn't being trolled?

Well, what Miami Metro think isn't covered at all, so I don't really think you can blame the writers for anything in this case. But yeah, I think that's what most people would assume in a situation like that.

Shout-out to Mazuka's daughter for becoming the most pointless character in a TV show, closely followed by the woman who was promoted to Sergeant ahead of Quinn and never seen again.

Did you just shut off the tv/stream when hannah and Harrison started walking away? You probably spent the whole day thinking he actually died

I love it in Dexter how the characters in sub-plots are so random and pointless that you don't actually end up knowing the name of them. And by love it I mean I find it fecking bizarre.

Does anyone know the name of the sergeant? Masuka's daughter? Did anyone have any idea what Mike's name was before he died?

"Who's Mike?"

If they wanted to hint at a possible spin off by showing us Dexter well and live, they should and could have done it in a more subtle way. We didn't need to see him as a fecking lumberjack :wenger:

What an awful ending to an awful season. What was the point os Masuka's daughter? And that sergeant woman? Was Masuka even in the final episode? How did Dex just waltz out of the hospital with a dead body and not be seen? The significance of the hurricane was minor considering they built it up for at least 2 episodes. There was absolutely no closure. The whole excitement of the show was seeing how the Miami Metro, especially Angel would deal with finding out about Dexters true identity and that didnt happen. Laguerta's death was meaningless.

The best bit was Hannah's face when she read about Dexters death... she be thinking "feck, now I'm stuck with this little shit"
