Television Dexter

I managed to hold off and thoruoughly enjoyed it. It's also nice to see Dexter being cool again, not wrapped in guilt or personal doubt.

I'm finished with Dexter now, watched the the season opener, it's the same shite over and over, if I hear the words 'dark passenger' again I'm going to pull off my own ears. It has absolutely no depth, the script is rubbish, it's C.S.I with a serial killer. Are they going to run with an Angel incest story because I can't understand where else that story is going. But it's par for the course with Dexter, the sub plots are usually boring time fillers.

Can't understand the huge approval this episode is getting! Call me when Debra finds out or Dexter has to do something fecking different then kill faceless bad guys, maybe have him on the run from the cops or have Quinn go toe to toe with him, anything but the same tired formula please!

Rubbish.

How can you know what this season is about based on just one episode. Those things could easily happen this season. No one knew where season 4 was going to end up based on just the first episode.

Do I really have to sit through more of this crap on the off chance it might get better, or just like last season it might be a waste of time. I mean if you're not going to bother with any credible script, any well rounded or good characters, never mind plot, at least give the show some hook, some reason to watch the next episode, some excitement. This show falls between two stools, it has neither good action nor good drama now.

I want to like this show don't get me wrong, but it's impossible, I'm more disappointed then anything.

It was an enjoyable season opener, I didn't go in expecting too much from the first episode, I say you watch a few more episodes (from this season) before making a judgement on the whole show.

I still think that they should have made Debra find out about Dexter last season. Plus, I wasn't really into the religious theme when I heard about it (before the opener), but it seemed interesting enough, plus snakes are awesome!

And I am missing something about Angel, wtf is this incest shit?

I agree that the opener was a tad formulaic. You can almost tell what each character is going to say or do before they have ... it was quite predictable. Having seen the earlier trailer and the religious theme that its going to follow, I do have hopes for this season though.

WTF was that with Angel and his sister? Also, where have I seen the younger of the two villains. Was he the one in the American Pie movies?

Decent second episode.

Mos Def's character is interesting and maybe Dexter can learn from him, but I get the feeling they'll build the character up as Dexter's companion only for him to die/leave quickly (like Lumen).

I hope we don't have to put up with more romance crap this season and the less we see of LaGuerta the better.

Tom Hanks son, from Orange County, Band of Brothers, Mad Men amongst others.

Anyone know when the new season is airing on British / Irish tv?

Cant wait!

If it's still FX who have the rights to it then I don't expect it before next summer. It's pathetic we have to wait almost a year to see Dexter, at least Sky Atlantic tend to broadcast US shows within a few weeks of the US airdate.

For me the show is a complete train wreck now. I know most here won't agree but they have dropped the ball big fecking time to milk this show. Very sad. I wish its creators were like Breaking Bad and had a end game in mind. They said from beginning they would do maximum 4 or 5 seasons.

Shame because first 2 and 4th season were class.

Watched the second episode and I don't really know what to think. My first instinct is to say I didn't like it, but then I think I may just be feeling that because I'm comparing it to the Breaking Bad episode which was amazing. The season opener was very good but this episode felt quite rushed.

I think the Quinn marriage thing is setting it up so he's not with Deb any more, that was the only thing keeping him from suspecting Dexter last season.

Yeah i assume they still have the rights man. Thats shit if we've to wait til next year to see this. Sky Atlantic have pumped a shit-load of money into their programming, so fair play to them.

I've done a few searches & just found this one, seems pretty clued in aswell - Dexter Season 6 starts in Spring 2012 on FX

UK Air Dates for US & Cult TV Shows 2011 | GeekTown

Also, it seems Game of Thrones Series 2 could air around the same time, which is understandable due to they only began filming in June this year. A long time to wait for Dexter tho, given that its already started in the US & its popularity on these shores :(

From watching the first 2 episodes, I can't help think that the show has just run its course now and it should be ended this season, but it won't

The annoying thing for me is that I always expected Dexter to finish when it should, I always felt it was a 4 or 5 season show but unfortunately the popularity of it is winning now and it's really running out of steam fast.

I'll reserve all judgement for now, who knows, it could be a great season, but the reason 4 was so damn good was because of Lithgow, where as 5 was mainly shit because of Julia Stiles. Colin Hanks and Olmos just won't work as villains for me.

The plot holes are also getting outrageous at this stage, any half decent police force would've caught Dexter by now

I haven't watched any eps from this season but judging by some of the reactions it's exactly what I thought it would be... the same. Apart from Dexters murders which really aren't that interesting anymore it's soap opera drama for the most part. I might give the season opener a go but I don't know if I can handle another season of watching Dexter get caught in some contrived unescapable scenario just to escape from it with a combination of luck, more luck and an incredible amount of surrounding stupidity from supposed detectives.

it's turning into CSI. Dexter kills someone new every episode, only there's still some recurring plot in the background.

Last season was awesome.

Agreed. Current non sense is completely against what they showed in season 1 and 2.

I challenge anyone to watch season 1 again and then last season and these two episodes, then tell me they are same series. I knew this would happen as well. IIRC show's original writer left some time ago and supposedly typical hacks have taken over now, ruining what could have been a great series.

The best part of those early season was how dark it was. And there was hint that Dexter would take an even darker turn. That should have come after the Trinity season. But they bottled it completely. He is basically some kind of super hero now. Absolute horse shit.

I just wish we wouldn't be hit over the head with themes. When Mos Def was basked in light I nearly burst out laughing.

But yeah, I want to see Masuka's assistant's tits.

So I watched the first 2 episodes and yup.. it's Dexter as it has been for the past every season. The serial killers for this season really do look shite. A whiney little boy and some father type holy figure who tries to pull off menacing but just sounds fecking boring.

I mean Dexter does have its moments, but it's usually ONLY Dexter. I know the show is about Dexter and Michael C. Hall is brilliant, but I think the fact he can turn any bit of unimaginative dialogue into something ridiculously cool sounding is what carries to show. It's like the ratings for the show can be split in half.. any scene with dexter is usually a 7-8/10 at least, then anything concerning a sub plot or secondary characters rarely gets above a 5. Unless it's Mosaka being a pervert. As much as the show is about Dexter if you are going to introduce multiple subplots you really need the writing to carry it, and I don't think this show has it... at least not anymore.

On a side note Mos Def is always cool, but bathing him in light was about as subtle as a nuclear missile.

I'm about 8 episodes into Season 5, and I think it's still pretty good. Michael C Hall plays such a good lead

It was a steaming pile of shit.

Pretty much nothing happened in relation to the overall plot of the show apart from Deborah and Quinn getting together.

I actually agree. Overall, everything was back to how it was in the beggining. It really was a poor season. 1,2 and 4 imo have been the best ones. 3 was meh. If you take out 5 and dont watch it, it wont really matter.

Ive liked the start of this season tho.

Basically agree. Following Season 2 (and that's probably being generous) there's been very little significant character development, and the side characters are one-dimensional and generally uninteresting, so it's been entirely reliant on the opposing serial killers to give it any degree of depth outside of Dexter...and only Lithgow's been able to take it up a level. It doesn't look great on that front this season, the wise old sage one so far looks pretty dull but the younger one looks like he might be of some interest as it goes on, but nothing special. To think they've had LaGuerta, Batista, Deb and the Dad in every episode and they've all failed to develop any real interest is quite something.

It's still entertaining though, you just know what you're getting - don't expect too much and it's still worth the watch every week.

Complaining every other week about some entirely predictable and completely minor part of the plot that didn't go the way you wanted it to isn't the same thing as judging the series as a whole and pointing out some of the overall flaws! Dexter's never really meant to have been taken very seriously.

How dare I assess an episode after watching it! Most of what you've said there isn't true anyway.

Dexter used to be very "serious" with it's writing. The first 2 series were impeccable and very hard to find any plot holes or silliness in but as the show went on it got worse. I'm not sure how you can say it doesn't take itself seriously, maybe not anymore but the show used to try to be believable
