Gaming Destiny | Rise of Iron launch

Really need to get a whole lot more information on what we are actually getting in the taken king. Only thing that is sort of drawing me in right now are the new subclasses. Beyond that all I'm picturing is another bunch of changes that get us grinding away again and a couple of new missions that take us a day to complete on all our characters. Right now I'm not going to put any money down and simply going to wait until all the information is out before I decide if it is worth continuing.

Is anyone actually angry at the price tags or is it just the usual contrarion destiny haters creating a faux outrage?

If you're that bothered about having the extra collectors edition stuff that you'd pay for the full game again then you deserve to be ripped off.

I'm pretty hooked into Elder Scrolls Online at the moment and the thought of having to pay forty quid for the expansion isn't making me want to come back. As was said, though, it depends on what's coming. If we're talking about a storyline that involves more missions than we've had in TDB & HoW plus two new raids (a new one and the one we were supposed to get in HOW) then I'll consider it.

Let's see.

It's only going to be one raid, although they've said it's their biggest one yet, ie even bigger than the VoG.

Hmm, not a good start. It's going to take a pretty substantial mission campaign to swing it....and considering the fact that the game's original campaign was pretty much duff, I reckon there's a good chance that £40 will be going towards Metal Gear Solid instead.

Bungie are falling over them selves at every opportunity lately with the exclusive emotes and shaders for the exclusive edition, then the yanks getting an extra mission through some redbull thing at the end of the year, The price alone is ridiculous for a DLC and September onward is a busy time of year for game launches.

Just checked the price for the DLC for me. It is more than a new game over here due to having to be purchased through the overpriced PSN store. Its that or buy the whole thing all over again for over $100. I want to keep playing, but at that price I have some doubts I will if the amount of content isn't a serious amount.

Think this week is going to be the first week I won't play destiny at all, picked up witcher 3 and have nothing left to chase in the game anymore due to HOW having no good end game weapons.

Yeah last week I didn't bother doing PoE. Shame but the excitement has gone right out of this and the horrendous pricing is a big reason along with me getting into ESO.

Looks like the pricing issues have been brushed over but they need to change for those outside of the US as we're all ending up paying the price of a full game for just some DLC. It's stupid when with other games you get more content in updates for free/less.

Haven't played Destiny since November, just got fed up with the repetitive stuff like the same levels over and over and search for fragments to upgrade guns. Turned it on for the first time tonight and bought the 1 and 2 DLC. Are they any good, does anyone still play it?

It's a bit stupid what they are doing to the black hammer, no real reward now for continuous precision shots.
Yeah.. It's the whole reason for using it apart from the decent impact. I suppose it still auto reloads for you, but you can't spam it continuously. I think if they released it like that in the first place people would be happy, but now taking it away completely sort of sucks. It was quite rare to hit 3 in a row against moving targets anyway.

When's the patch coming through?

Some of these updates will be welcomed, pleasantly. Can't believe it took them so long to address these issues.

Anyone fancy doing the level 34 arena tonight? Not sure why Bungie didn't allow matchmaking on this level so I need. Fire team, desperate for Etheric lights

Not during the week, weekend I don't mind doing POE, I've only got time for the odd cruicible match in the evenings.

Yea I pretty much lost all interest when I realised it was pretty much a bait and switch, it's a fun game for a while. I hope they sort it out so that it's all that I imagined it would be and could be.

They seem to be happy enough to just make money with a game that's good in parts and lacking in others, whereas during the build up to this game it sounded so epic. They had such lofty goals...

I really, REALLY liked this game and played it pretty much religiously for almost a year, as most here will know. For me, the thing that kept me hooked in was initially the need to get the next cool bit of gear and later, once I had everything, it was great to help newer players through their first raid experiences, seeing them buzz off getting the cool gear and then seeing them 'grow up' into a cracking bunch of players.

After HoW, though, it started to sink in that the game is purely designed to keep you hooked whilst they bring out the next bit of DLC that offered something slightly new but nothing anywhere near the quality of the original experience. A few missions and a strike is really poor 'upkeep' of a game with SO much potential. Especially when you know that a huge amount of that 'new' content was actually left out of the original game. Even PoE, whilst initially very fun, was a million miles away from the exciting, team-work based experience of running VoG the first few months. It was nothing more than a Tuesday to Tuesday habit that I needed to break.

So, when it was becoming clear that the third expansion was not going to be included with Season Pass, I had all the gear and also much of the group dynamic was being quashed by PoE and Trials forcing 3-man squads, then that was the final straw.

I may give the next full installment a shot but, for now, a very cool looking bow & arrow super really won't cut it.

Been a long, long time since I last played this. Annoys me that I'm just the Raiding Party and Flawless Raider trophy away from getting a platinum for this so if anyone could help with either at some point that'd be great.

I agree with everything Brocky said above, and its sad that after the initial outrage about TTK prices that its basically been forgotten about and Bungie/Activision are getting away with it basically, though I know a few of us have switched to ESO.

Yea I think it's obvious what it's about at this point. It's a shame...

Also, worth a watch:

@Redlambs... something just crossed my mind, is this something we are going to see more of? Are publishers thinking about shoehorning this stuff into their games? They probably are...

So I finally got this, cheap. Mainly to fill the gap until MGSV is here.

I'm ready for the big grind.

@Damien You checked reddit ?

The Trailer

Some stuff from reddit which a user got from the paid edition of the digital article.

No more light levels. Progression has been reworked so XP from kills, bounties, and missions will take you from level 1 to level 40. Armor, and now weapons, still have light on them, but it's not clear what its function is. Whatever it is, it isn't for leveling up your character

Pledge allegiance to a faction - no more class items. Trade in motes, weapon parts, armor materials, ammo synths, and planet materials for rep

Vanguard and Crucible marks have (finally!) been consolidated into one currency: Legendary Marks

A transmogrification-like system is currently still in the works: apply the stats of one armor piece to another armor piece you prefer the look of

Exotic version of The Strangers Rifle, called No Time To Explain; does Arc damage

"Energy types" can be applied to weapons. Not sure what exactly that means yet.

At least a dozen new exotics weapons - most of which are acquired by quest lines - and at least half dozen new exotic armor pieces per class

Arms Day. Once a week, pay glimmer to Banshee to order a lot legendary weapon; weapon delivered to you on Wednesday

Banshee has reputation now. Level up and earn the right to test drive prototype weapons by performing a set task for each weapon (e.g. kill Hive; sniper headshots in crucible)

Shader and Emblem terminals! No longer take up space in vault. Access terminal to see every shader/emblem in the game, withdraw the ones you've collected so far, and - best part - see instructions on how to find any you haven't found yet

Guided exploration of the Dreadnaught. Strange items can be found and used for various purposes, like triggering a world boss, or discovering new loot hidden somewhere

When out in the wild, listen for audio cues to use your Ghost to scan the area for some object. Scan said object, and Ghost will talk to you about it and explain the lore behind it. This must be a way of building the grimoire in to the game itself.

Every piece of gear has perks, including GHOST SHELLS

Int, Disc, and Str now longer show a percentage on your character screen. Instead, it now tells you the time it will take for each ability to charge depending on the armor stats you have equipped

Emotes equippable below your emblem slot.

Helmet on or off now and extends to character screen

Cryptarch has quests

Active quest markers can be toggled on HUD

Old story missions have been rearranged to create a better narrative. Sword of Crota mission now flows in to The Dark Below storyline

You can hold more bounties, and turn in bounties without having to visit the tower/Reef. No details yet on how exactly you will do that.

Hadronic Essence, Plasteel Plating, and Sapphire Wire are gone. A single Armor Materials item now works for all three classes.

Crucible now adds to the story. Shaxx will appear to explain the lore behind certain aspects of it. New Crucible bounties each week. Complete all 5 of the new Weekly bounties for chance of legendary or exotic gear. New class specific bounties. Also, crucible bounties have been made less grindy and easier to complete. New fireteam bounties that encourage team play. Each day does have one particularly challenging bounty, similar to Iron Banner bounties. Trials of Osiris now has bounties too.

Crucible matchmaking has been fixed to match you with more evenly skilled players.

Marcy Rule in crucible will end the game if one team is getting severely crushed

8 story missions, but that is just the "first act." The raid is tied in to the story, and a bunch of quests are as well.

The Taken War is second act of the story. Revisit the Vault of Glass for part of this story arc, where we finally get answers about the faste of Praedyth

Four new strikes, one with two Cabal bosses at the end - a melee boss, and a boss with a mortar on his back. Raid-light mechanics are now part of strikes, encouraging teamwork and puzzle solving

Encounters in strikes can change on each play through. Confront different enemie races, or multiple races duking it out, at certain sections than you did the last time you played it. Taken enemies can be injected in to the strike at any point.

Exotic weapons have been reworked so the exotic perk is the first to be unlocked.

I've not looked at the Destiny subreddit in weeks. Like the sound of those changes, and lets be frank a lot of the changes should have been in from the get go and with Dinklage being axed, North brought in and pretty much everything being redone, its like the first year has been a very, very expensive beta. The £40 is still a big turn off for me.

"Energy types" can be applied to weapons. Not sure what exactly that means yet.

Does that mean the damage type like solar, arc, void so you can change them around?

No idea what it means, but the a mod from reddit was hired by bungie, and he advised not to dismantle legendaries just yet, I already pre-ordered Taken King because i got it for cheap. I'll let you guys know if its any good.
How did you get it for cheap? -_-
