I've got a vague, vague idea of what to do and my hunter is set up for it but would take a heck of a lot of attempts to get it right and would most likely piss you all off. Would also involve switching characters.

Yeah, with the relative safety down at the bottom you get a bit more freedom to go at it... much easier from the bottom IMO

That J-Browne person made it look just ridiculously easy and shows you don't need a Hunter. Titan is pretty much ideal given the jetpack thing can just boost them onto the platform, so no nonsense at all. Was funny hearing Rod(?) get so frustrated then about one or two attempts after he's gone we get it done.
Vex Mythoclast, Light of the Abyss, Song of Ir Yut should be a good loadout for the thrall zone. I'm up for another fresh attempt whenever before the reset. We know what to do on that end bit, just stay at the bottom, gradually get Crota's health down on the first set of sword hits to give the sword carrier time to get up, then blast him with rockets for the second set. Rinse and repeat.
Do you guys use mics in raids, Nightfall and stuff? Is it necessary? I'm at 24 now so slowly getting ready for the high-level stuff.
You'll probably struggle to get into a lot of raids without a mic. Most people require one, communication is key.
I don't use a mic and have little to no problem getting into raids. As long as you put in LFG or whatever that you don't have a mic but can hear what they say, quite a few people are okay with it...
